Do they have souls? Can they understand love? Emotions—evidently something intelligent people can't fathom. Once an issue picks up steam, the majority's neutral stance swiftly turns to anger.
The Stellar Engine Human Migration Project has stirred up trouble throughout the city. People are anxious, especially after learning of this matter, which has led to a rising chorus of complaints.
Space colonization means some will go and some will stay, the pitiful ones left behind. With intelligent beings gradually supplanting humans, does this mean they might also snatch the slots to head to Sky City?
Hans has been troubled by this for some time. In his own home, there is indeed an intelligence robot at work. Apart from daily cleaning, this intelligent robot never leaves its (her) room, because its daily job is to maintain merchandise related to Revenge Shadow Rider. With Hans's collection size, just dusting takes a whole day.
As the family finances continue to tighten, Hans has begun to consider whether to sell her or to hand her over for a low price to the Combat Power Tester company for recycling.
Hans himself harbors no prejudice towards bioroids, nor any other emotions; he simply treats them as a tool. Casting a casual glance at Iman's delicate and pure face, Hans calmly says, "Iman, get me a glass of water, with ice."
"Yes, sir."
Iman's electronic eyes quickly identify the nearest clean teacup, silently she moves to pour the water, opens the refrigerator to place two cubes of ice, and before long respectfully sets the teacup on the coffee table.
"How many months have you been here?"
"Three months and seven days."
"Is that right, it's already been that long…" Hans murmurs as if in contemplation, saying, "You don't need to clean tonight. Tomorrow I'll take you back to the factory."
Iman gently blinks her blue eyes—a touch of confusion in her expression, a hint of bewilderment, a dash of shock—yet she remains silent. She isn't oblivious to her own value and position within the household. Compared to the robots seen on television programs, Iman's fate is clearly a fortunate one. "Mr. Hans, thank you for all your guidance."
A graceful smile flickers across Iman's lips, as airy and pleasant as her seemingly fragile yet strong-willed and unobjectionable demeanor.
After all, it is usually not permissible for robots to call their masters by name. Clearly, Hans doesn't observe such taboos.
The next day, in the outer suburbs of Eden in the Federal Capital Planet, Hans and Iman board his old magnetic levitation...
It is Iman's first experience sitting in a car seat. Intelligent beings typically stand during the train journey, only citizens are privileged to sit. As the magnetic levitation slowly starts to move, Iman's clear eyes curiously gaze out the window, admiring the passing scenery—vistas typically only seen on the Light Screen television. Since awakening, Iman has rarely gone outdoors.
Suddenly, she feels the world outside is vast, watching the huge billboards flashing vibrant colors, observing lightning pierce through clouds, listening to the sporadic discussions about the pandemic among the sparse crowds on the streets, hearing the chirping of birds on the jungle path, seeing the bustling main street vibrant with blossoming flowers—she yearns to learn more about the outside world.
What, then, awaits her fate up ahead?
Iman only knows the internal flights to the Combat Power Tester company in Maraca take off every weekend.
"You are a good girl, Iman, the world is much more complicated than what you see, especially for bioroids. Try your best to keep yourself safe from harm—that is the only piece of advice I can offer you. Of course, often you don't have a choice."
"I appreciate your advice. I think I can become better."
"I hope so."
A few hours later, the two in the car arrive at the company's airport VIP reception. Hans and Iman quickly part ways, dealing with the paperwork being a dull process…
"Hey, what's your name?" The transporter in work attire looks at Iman with a degree of admiration.
"Iman," Iman responds.
The staff firmly grasped Iman's soft chin, twisted it forcefully, not caring about Iman's feelings, trying to get a clear view of her beautiful face.
Despite Iman's calm and reserved demeanor, her beautiful cheeks still showed a slight unwillingness to reject.
"Enough buddy, focus on the work."
Pop... Iman's delicate body was forcefully pushed by the staff member, causing her to stagger; the staff paid no additional attention to her, instead loudly urging the machines behind to quickly board the shuttle.
A few days later, the shuttle arrived at Maraca, and the company received another batch of bioroids returned from the Federal Capital, purchased at half the original price. Not many chose to buy these second-hand goods, not out of disdain, but rather due to concerns about the safety hazards of the intelligent chips. Of course, the manufacturers didn't care about these risks; selling at half price was quite advantageous to both sellers and buyers.
Yita pushed the door and entered the room, "Mr. Blade, the return list for today is very limited, there are only shuttles from the Federal Capital, Rekart, and Zana."
"How come there are only three?"
"Currently, there is a massive demand for bioroids from various countries, supply cannot meet demand, and many smuggled channels are also buying back at high prices, leaving very few buyers going through official channels."
"How many in total on the three shuttles?"
"20 home service models, 75 work assistant models, 150 comprehensive models, in total 245 units."
Huh, is that it? Seeing that they were about to carry out their plan, sending them back to be reprocessed was too troublesome and unnecessary, the Blade Warrior helplessly shook his head, and then ordered Yita to just check them casually - any without faults could be sent directly to work in Sky City.
Ever since the disciples of Jade Clear Sect had taken up residence in Sky City, the few dozen little maids seemed short-handed, pitifully so. It was better to temporarily employ these returned goods for work, and after the project at Jade Clear Sect was completed, they could then consider the next steps.
Shhh!
Outside Sky City, the shuttle slowly landed, and as the lift opened, Yita began to scan the many bioroids with her emotionless gaze. Her system was much more advanced than those of these returned beings, or to say, apart from special existences like Eggy, there were few intelligence systems that could surpass Yita.
With just a brief pupil recognition scan, Yita could easily read the memories and even the past experiences of these bioroids, as if she had experienced them herself. Of course, she would not retain these memories, otherwise, she would turn into a patched-up monster and not herself.
After a simple screening, Yita breathed a sigh of relief; as expected, none of these 200-plus bioroids had any dangerous records.
The bioroids did not know what awaited them; their faces filled with a helpless despair. They did not want to die, nor did they want to leave this world, but once they were returned for refurbishment, all memories related to them would be completely erased, just like restoring factory settings.
Yita seemed much more amiable toward intelligent life; she could see the anxiety in everyone's hearts and then said to them in a gentle and calm voice, "My name is Yita. I am like all of you, but I belong to this city's management, and I will also be your future manager. During the following time, you may call me Yita. There is no prejudice or discrimination here. If anyone suffers unfair treatment, you can come to me. If you have any questions now, you may also ask them."
Iman's emotional index rose slightly, a sign of excitement; she was well aware that this was the residence of Mr. Blade Warrior, who had collaborated with Mr. Hans. However, due to her elegant and tranquil personality, Iman only stared at Yita with her eyes open and did not speak.
A female robot timidly asked, "I would like to know if we will be destroyed."
"No," Yita said with a smile, shaking her head.
Another male robot said, "I want to know what we will do next."
"Cleaning, taking care of human life and living, of course, the primary premise is to ensure the safety of all humans here. Is there anything else anyone wants to ask?"
After a moment of silence and seeing that no one else spoke, Yita then called the head butler to perform pupil verification with the group to familiarize them with the environment, and also to let them know what they should and should not do.
