"Oh, it's Guo Guo."
Feng Yi's hand reached out to pinch the plump reddish cheek of Guo Guo, feeling quite meaty.
The eye-catching sight of this dim-witted, snub-nosed child standing in a daze, akin to a silly little animal, was incredibly endearing. A patched-up cotton coat pocket concealed a robot toy Feng had gifted her. Feng, holding a cup of instant noodles with one hand, blocked Guo Guo with the other and carried her to a nearby room, saying, "Here, this is for Guo Guo."
Then Feng Yi turned towards the middle-aged woman: "Let her read more books. This Space Crystal is nothing important to me."
The middle-aged woman was lighting a fire at that moment. She'd seen Feng Yi give something to Guo Guo — a Space Crystal necklace, the cost of which was perhaps half a lifetime's worth of savings. How could she accept such a thing? But when she hastily grasped the crystal and hurried to find Feng Yi, she found the wide-open entrance to the room already empty.
That day, Feng Yi had been out exercising late into the night before returning to his room. The Space Crystal he had given away contained some silver coins, which could entirely cover Guo Guo's tuition fees.
The next day the young woman visited Feng Yi again, but he declined her on the excuse of Guo Guo's schooling. No matter what, they couldn't interrupt the child's growth.
The young woman was visibly moved, understanding that she had met a benefactor. She didn't say anything and started to undress. As the saying goes, 'return great kindness with body offerings'.
Outraged, Feng Yi rushed to stop her. He would never dream of becoming a father out of wedlock. Feng Yi was aware that the young woman felt indebted to him, hence her actions... but there really was no need. He was simply acting within his abilities.
The short weekend flashed by, and the dull and monotonous military academy life loomed ahead. At the sound of the morning call and Wind Thunder's bell, the vigorous young faces once again appeared before Instructor Feng. It appeared their enthusiasm remained high even after not seeing each other for two days.
During those two days of rest, the soldiers didn't slack off either. Feng Yi would intermittently see clusters of three to five people discussing various military topics, such as the course of the Big Macs War, the immense popularity of the Revenge Shadow Rider, and idle talk about a handsome boy or beautiful girl they bumped into on their way yesterday.
Feng Yi glanced at the sky, and at the sound of a whistle, the troop swiftly assembled. Under his lead, the brigade rapidly traversed the campgrounds and stepped foot into a teaching building.
Monday's lessons weren't related to physical training, but rather centered on computer practice, with the occasional lecture thrown in. To these new trainees, Monday might just be the most wonderful day of the week.
Once the trainees lined up outside the academic building, Feng Yi yet again gave them a cold sweeping glance, clarifying, "Morning's lesson: Basic Battlefield Training, Subject: Intel Communication Countermeasure Acquisition. Aim: To improve military understanding. Requirements: Listen more, look more, think more, talk less. Get it?"
"Yes!"
The collective response exploded from outside the lecture hall.
Feng Yi nodded in satisfaction. Having completed his routine procedure, his tone softened a bit, "Proficiently using every military skill is always our survival guarantee. This lesson will mainly focus on explaining the basics of wireless communication countermeasure, optoelectronic countermeasure, hydroacoustic countermeasure, aeroacoustic countermeasure, espionage countermeasure, and visual surveillance countermeasure. I hope you won't take this lightly."
His powerful voice was not loud, but it fell clearly into the ears of every one present. Even the soldiers from other divisions who had just entered the class building heard him clearly. The response was even more awe-inspiring: "Yes!"
"Well, enter in order."
On the forefront of the Galactic Battlefield, intel calls and countermeasures are essential knowledge every soldier must have. Feng Yi certainly knew this well, but for the students, it was a process that needed slow digesting.
The instructor's lecture lasted two hours. Using this time, Feng Yi hurriedly rushed to the campus pub for a small drink. He'd had an early start and his stomach wasn't quite full. After he ate, he returned to the lecture hall.
As an instructor, he was supposed to maintain the order. But in reality, it wasn't possible to control the chaos created by such a large group. The lecture hall with its 13,000 computers had the capacity to facilitate thousands of students. It was manageable during the lecture portion, but as soon as the practical operation started, all order was lost. Students started to whisper among themselves, causing a ruckus.
In this atmosphere, forget about maintaining silence—it was already a huge relief to the management that the students were discussing intel decryption knowledge. There were students who had not paid attention in class earlier. During the practical operation, they were as confused as ants on a hot pot.
"Ah, these youngsters. Ah..." The old dean shook his head in frustration... despite the presence of various Discipline Committee members, it was of no use.
Feng Yi noticed that every time he walked among the students, they would suddenly quiet down. But when he walked away, they would resume their shenanigans, exasperating Feng immensely! What happened to their promise of not being lackadaisical? They'd forgotten it in an instant. These fellows weren't letting him down but themselves.
At this point, Feng Yi decided to give up maintaining any dignity. He caught sight of a female student happily chatting away and walked straight up to her. "Student, what are you discussing?"
The female student, caught in the act and gazing into Feng Yi's warm and gentle eyes, blushed a little. She felt the young instructor was quite charming. Unaware of her situation, she seemed intent on showing off her intelligence. Her mouth babbled nonstop... she spouted all the knowledge she had just learned and even accepted a challenger from within the LAN to apply what she learned practically. The result was excellent.
A quick and sharp move by the girl that left Feng Yi speechless, "You're doing a great job — but what are you using this notebook for?"
"Of course, to take notes. Even someone like me, who has learned so much military knowledge, fears missing out on something."
Feng Yi's expression was priceless at her reply. A promising young woman, albeit a little chatty, surely had a bright future ahead. But before Feng Yi could praise her, the girl mentioned that after retiring, she would proudly share her military theories with her family.
Feng Yi's face immediately fell. She was no smart cookie at all. She didn't even understand the military's confidentiality rules.
Just then, another instructor happened to overhear their conversation. Without saying a word, the instructor ordered, "You, stand up."
The girl stood up in confusion. Looking at the instructor's stern face, it wasn't likely that she would be praised, "Instructor, I...?"
"Don't say anything. Just go and stand in the corner to memorize the confidentiality rules and regulations. When it's time to eat, come back."
"What?"
The girl was stunned. Her pleading eyes looked toward Feng Yi, only to receive a round of praise: "Not bad talent, keep working hard. I have high hopes for you." His naturally charming smile fell over his face, but he did not offer any word of leniency.
