Chapter 397: Beast God

In the Black Tortoise Clan, an elder appeared before a small hut.

He leaned against one of the pillars to catch his breath for a moment before prostrating himself at the door.

“Ancestor, an immortal beast has descended upon us. Please show mercy and save us,” the elder said.

No response came from the hut, but the elder remained in his position.

As seconds passed in silence, his nervousness grew stronger. He thought to himself that he had never actually seen the ancestor. No one had. They simply believed that an ancestor lived here and had never dared to barge in to confirm.

Could it be that the ancestor had died long ago? No! He shook his head. He needed to have faith in the ancestor. The ancestor was probably in deep meditation and hadn’t heard him. He just needed to call out again.

As he was about to open his mouth to speak, he suddenly froze, feeling an overwhelming aura descend upon him. No way. The monster had already dealt with the others? So fast? He gathered his courage and was about to shout for the ancestor.

|| He doesn’t seem to hear you. Let me help you, || Li Yao spoke.

Instantly, a wave of energy picked up the elder and sent him crashing through the small hut. The small hut was instantly destroyed by the force. The elder landed on the ground, thinking to himself that it was really over. Just as this thought crossed his mind, he noticed a figure.

There was actually someone inside the hut.

He quickly recovered and knelt before the figure. “This little one apologizes for disturbing the ancestor’s rest,” he said.

[No need to apologize,] the figure spoke. The elder looked up with a relieved expression, only to instantly freeze in horror. The figure before him had transformed into a large-mouthed monster and was about to swallow him whole.

Before he could say or do anything, his upper body was bitten off completely. The figure then chewed disgustingly before swallowing. Only then did his body return back to normal. He reached into his mouth with his finger, cleaning flesh from his teeth.

He then smiled at Li Yao.

[Someone actually came?] he spoke in surprise. [That’s quite earlier than I had expected.]

Li Yao looked at him expressionlessly. || You even eat people of the same clan? The beast clans are really strange, || she said as she observed him, noting to herself that his aura was strange.

[Same clan? Pfft, don’t associate me with such lowlifes,] he said.

He then snapped his fingers and the scene changed. Li Yao found herself sitting on a mat before a table. The other party sat opposite her. He reached to the table and lifted a glass, then poured a red liquid into it before taking a sip.

[Why don’t we talk for a second?] he asked.

[Run. Now!] the Empress’s voice screamed in Li Yao’s mind.

[Aren’t you listening to me? Run away now,] the Empress screamed.

But Li Yao just moved her hands and took a glass, then poured a drink for herself. || What are you? || she asked.

The man looked at her. He took a huge gulp, then placed the glass down. He shook his head. [No. The real question is… what are you?] he asked.

As he spoke, Li Yao felt herself being drawn into his eyes and voice. || I… I… I am || she began.

[Snap out of it. What are you doing?] the Empress screamed out.

The man looked at her smilingly.

|| I am the one who is going to kill you, || her tone suddenly shifted, and the man quickly flipped the table between them, using it to block the glass shards Li Yao had thrown toward him.

[Interesting. You never fell for it from the start,] he spoke.

|| Fall for it? You mean this little trick? || Li Yao asked as she waved her hand. The scene returned back to normal. She was still floating above the rubble of the small hut. The man still sat amid the wreckage.

The man suddenly broke out in laughter. [Interesting. Very interesting indeed. No wonder the master sent both the demon and asura god here,] the man spoke.

[What are you doing? You can’t beat him. Run away before it’s too late,] the Empress spoke once again, this time sounding more desperate.

Li Yao stared at the man. She thought to herself that it was better to learn more about him. He was related to the demon and asura gods, meaning he was her enemy. He was among those who were plotting against her senior brother.

She couldn’t let him live.

The man looked at her. “Killing intent?” he wondered. He waved his hand, a slash moving at extreme speed, cutting through space and arriving at Li Yao’s position so fast she couldn’t even react, slicing her instantly in half.

In the next second, it seemed as though time was reversing and the attack returned back to him, Li Yao connecting back together, as if the whole thing had never happened.

When the man saw this, instead of being shocked, he smiled even more widely. [What a strange power? Law of time? No, it’s the Law of Heavenly Way,] he spoke. [Hahaha. No wonder the master was so interested in you. I get it now,] he continued laughing maniacally.

After laughing for a long time, he stopped. He then appeared before Li Yao, stretching out his hand. [I am the Beast God. Join me and I’ll help you defeat the Sage,] the man said.

Hearing this, Xiang Yu and the Empress were both shocked inside Li Yao’s spiritual sea. But Li Yao remained calm. She looked at the outstretched hand but didn’t bother shaking it. Rather, she looked directly into his eyes. || Help me defeat the Sage? Isn’t she your master? || she asked.

When he heard this, he smiled. [I was just testing you. To think that you actually already know of the Sage,] the man spoke with a sigh. [Looks like the demon and asura gods are already dead,] he said.

He then laughed heartily. [Serves you right. You never thought your plan would fail, did you?] he spoke to seemingly no one.

Li Yao just stared at him. [Unlike the demon and the asura gods, I was able to break out of the Sage’s control and escape,] the Beast God said.
