“So, how do I use a law? Didn’t you say that you need immortal qi to be able to use a law?” Li Yao asked.

[Not necessarily. In some cases, you need a law in order to get immortal qi. But that’s a story for another day] the Empress said.

“How so?” Li Yao asked.

“That’s right. But what does this have to do with law?” Li Yao asked, growing impatient as she felt her senior brother being pummeled.

[I was getting there] the Empress said, shaking her head. [Do you know why you have to undergo tribulation after breakthrough? Do you know why you have to ascend after becoming an immortal?] she asked.

“Yeah, it’s because of the heavenly dao, right?” Li Yao said.

[That’s right. More precisely, it’s something known as the law of heavenly way] the Empress said.

[When you were breaking through to the golden core realm and absorbed the lightning tribulation to form your nine heavens thunder body, and when you were breaking through to the nascent soul and soul formation realms later on, you absorbed some law energy from the tribulation] she explained.

[Usually, this would all just dissipate with time. But since you have the heavenly dao body, the law of heavenly way assumed you were the heavenly dao and stuck with you instead of dissipating] she said.

[That’s why you can make rules in your nine heavens domain.

The lightning mimics the heavenly tribulation and allows you to use the law of heavenly way in limited amounts] she explained.

[Still, that’s just a mere fraction of what a law is capable of. But don’t worry, I’ll teach you how to harness the full power of the law energy within you] the Empress said.

Veins bulged on Li Yao’s face as she watched Xiang Yu get punched through his chest again. “Okay, make it quick,” she said.

[Okay. Although I’ve never met anyone who’s cultivated the law of heavenly way, it mostly relies on order. Think of your senior brother’s chaos, the opposite of that. There is also the law of order, but that’s a different thing. Try to focus on order resulting from enforced rules, not out of nature. Think of yourself as the overseer of all this chaos and establish rules that bring about order] the Empress continued guiding Li Yao through how to activate the law, all while Xiang Yu was being completely annihilated in the outside world.

Her eyes suddenly snapped open. They were still silver, but now they were glowing and seemed to be spinning in ways that just drew you into them.

Li Yao opened her eyes in the real world.

She glanced at Tianling, and Tianling instantly froze in shock.

“What the hell is that?” she asked as she snapped out of it. It had felt like being stared at by an apex predator. She wondered if the god from the upper realm had finally decided to show themselves.

But how could they do that without getting punished by the heavenly dao?

Li Yao waved her hand. || You are an anomaly, || she began in that same monotone voice.

|| An anomaly isn’t within order. Must eliminate, || she said.

“What are you talking about?” Tianling spoke, but suddenly, Li Yao appeared before her, no, she found herself appearing before Li Yao. She couldn’t move at all. She tried to activate all her means of escape, but they all failed.

It was as if she was trapped within her own body.

Li Yao lightly tapped her on the head, and Tianling was thrown away with tremendous force. From the attack, her tentacles ruptured and Xiang Yu flew in the opposite direction. Since he wasn’t hit directly, he was able to quickly recover.

“What is happening?” his partition asked the Empress. Even in the spiritual sea, Li Yao didn’t seem to be listening to him or even acknowledging his existence.

[Hmm, this is indeed strange] the Empress thought. [What are you doing? You almost hurt your beloved senior brother] the Empress asked.

|| Senior brother? What’s that? || Li Yao asked in that emotionless tone.

Outside, Tianling tried to escape, but she was still trapped within Xiang Yu’s void domain no matter how much she ran. Li Yao appeared before her and swung her sword. This time, she was moving herself, not that strange phenomenon where she made Tianling appear in front of her.

Tianling could see her approaching.

She thought to herself that Li Yao wasn’t that fast. She quickly activated her power and jumped away from the attack.

But just as she thought she had dodged the attack, Li Yao spoke. || You dodged? This isn’t how it should be. ||

Suddenly, Tianling felt time rewind, and she was back to before she dodged the attack. Before she could realize what was happening, Li Yao’s attack landed on her, slicing half her body from the waist down.
