“Is that for real? A major?”

“What else could it be?” the lead officer replied.

“Besides, I suspect the man’s rank might be even higher. Otherwise, how could the two of them take down over thirty men so effortlessly?”

“But the thing is, they’re so young—barely thirty. To be a major at that age, they must have some serious connections.”

“Don’t talk nonsense,” the lead officer scolded. “With skills like theirs, they didn’t get promoted just by pulling strings.”

“The boss is right. You college kids really have no idea,” a middle-aged officer added.

“They might be from one of Huaxia’s secret units.”

“Secret unit?” the officers in the car echoed in surprise.

“I don’t know the specifics. It’s just something I heard from our commander before he retired,” the middle-aged officer explained.

“Huaxia has a secret unit where the members are top-notch, capable of taking on hundreds of men. Their ranks are often quite high. I’d bet those two came from that unit.”

Hearing this, Wei Jianlong, who was sitting in the car, turned pale.

What the hell did I do to deserve this?!

Around 5 AM, three police cars sped down the highway toward Yanjing.

Ling Han and her team sat in silence, the atmosphere heavy with defeat. The failed operation was a complete blow to their morale.

What made it worse was that the operation had been entirely in the hands of the Songjiang branch—no one else had intervened. Despite that, they still failed.

For Ling Han, this was a massive blow, a clear indictment of her abilities.

She didn’t even know how she would explain it to her superiors.

The worst part was that this mission had been a joint operation with the Xinshan branch.

But because of her, they had tipped off the targets, leading to a near-failure. When they returned, not only would they face blame, but likely endless ridicule as well.

Because of this, no one in the car spoke, their spirits crushed.

Ring ring ring!

Just then, Ling Han’s phone rang. It was a call from Han Zhongyu.

“Sir,” Ling Han answered, her voice heavy with dejection.

“Where are you now?”

Han Zhongyu already knew about the mission’s failure, so his tone was stern.

“We’re on our way back to Yanjing. We should be there soon.”

“Hurry back. Wei Jianlong has already been captured. You need to assist with the follow-up.”

“What? Wei Jianlong has been captured!”

Ling Han nearly jumped out of her seat in shock.

“The operation failed. How was he captured?”

“It was the Xinshan branch that caught him, but I don’t know the details. All I know is that they got him.”

“But their team didn’t even operate with us. How could they capture Wei Jianlong?”

“You’ll have to ask them about that when you get back.”

“Okay… I-I understand…”

Ling Han hung up the phone, her eyes unfocused. The others in the car all turned their gaze to her.

“Little Han, what happened? Did they catch Wei Jianlong?” Zhang Yuling asked.

“Our boss says the Xinshan branch caught Wei Jianlong, but he doesn’t know the details. He said we should hurry back and find out.”

The people in the car exchanged confused glances, none of them understanding what had happened.

But deep down, they all had a feeling that this might be related to Lin Yi.

About an hour later, they finally arrived at the Yanjing central office. They saw that the Xinshan branch was already handling Wei Jianlong and his men, which left them feeling out of place, unsure of what to do.

Lin Yi glanced sideways at Gu Yiran.

“Who told you to act on your own?”

“We were just doing our job. We couldn’t really just go sightseeing as you suggested.”

Ling Han replied, trying to maintain her composure despite knowing they were in the wrong.

“What’s wrong with sightseeing? We still caught the guy, didn’t we?” Lin Yi retorted.

“What I can’t stand are people who think they know everything and end up screwing things up. Do you have any idea how much trouble you caused?”

“I know you’re the one who captured Wei Jianlong, but I don’t think you need to lord it over us,” Ling Han said.

“If it weren’t for us disrupting their plans, you might not have had the chance to catch him.”

“Bullsh*t,” Lin Yi snapped.

“I really want to know where you got your intel. Did you even see Wei Jianlong on the boat? How could you be so sure?”

Lin Yi’s words left the Songjiang team speechless.

They had to admit that they hadn’t actually seen Wei Jianlong during their operation.

“Enough, Lin Yi, let’s not rub it in. The important thing is that we got him,” Li Xianghui interjected, trying to ease the tension. He then turned to Ling Han and said,

“The people on the boat were just Wei Jianlong’s subordinates. He wasn’t there. He was waiting in a small fishing village 22 kilometers from the port. However, you did manage to uncover the goods they were smuggling, which is crucial evidence against him. So let’s split the credit for this operation. We’re not going to hog it all.”

Li Xianghui’s conciliatory tone helped ease the tension, and the Songjiang team members felt a little better, not as uncomfortable as before.

With Li Xianghui’s intervention, relations between the two sides began to thaw, and they started working together on the follow-up.

Ling Han pulled Li Xianghui aside. “Captain Li, this was my fault. Could you please apologize to your team on our behalf? It’s not fair for my subordinates to take the blame for my mistake.”

Li Xianghui chuckled awkwardly.

“To be honest, we didn’t contribute much to this operation. It was all Lin Yi’s doing,” Li Xianghui said, trying to comfort her.

“He’s got a bit of a temper, so don’t take what he said too seriously.”

“Did we really almost screw up the capture of Wei Jianlong because of us?” Ling Han asked after a moment of hesitation.

Li Xianghui was silent for a few seconds before replying,

“It’s possible that you alerted them, and Wei Jianlong almost got away because of it. That’s why Lin Yi was so upset. If Wei Jianlong had escaped, it would have been nearly impossible to catch him again.”

Hearing this, Ling Han’s expression turned grim as she realized the magnitude of her mistake.

“You’re right, I was wrong. Please, Captain Li, apologize to him for me.”

“There’s no need to dwell on it. The important thing is that we caught him. That’s what matters most. Don’t let it weigh on you too much, Captain Ling.”

“Thank you, Captain Li.”

After speaking, Ling Han glanced at Lin Yi, who was casually sitting on the couch playing with his phone.

Her curiosity about him grew.

How had he managed to get such precise intelligence?
