Chapter 3564: Medusa (30)
To call these beings gods was an overstatement. It was better to describe them as primitive humans—primitive humans draped in the mantle of divinity.
The status of a god was not truly that noble.
Ultimately, the ones who would come to dominate every plane and world were humans.
“So, why are you doing all of this?” Zeus asked Ning Shu. To him, it was clearly a case of throwing an egg against a rock. It was an ill-advised path with no reason, no logic, and no benefit. To do such a thing was simply evidence of having a hole in one’s head.
Ning Shu asked, “Would you have let me go?”
“Blaspheming the divine is an unforgivable sin,” Zeus said majestically.
See? Who was the intellectually disabled one here? The answer was so obvious, yet he still asked her why and what she hoped to gain.
Ning Shu let out a scoff. Zeus narrowed his eyes and then said, “Divine punishment exists specifically to penalize those who blaspheme like you. A divine edict is supreme. Therefore, your resistance will only make your final end more miserable.”
“So, should I have just laid down and let you all kill me?” Ning Shu replied.
Even if it was just a desperate struggle, she would at least bite off a piece of their flesh. Otherwise, she would have died for nothing. Even if her actions seemed incredibly foolish right now, a cornered beast still had to put up a fight.
Zeus suddenly burst into laughter. His face appeared dazzlingly bright, handsome, and charming. “Actually, I don’t want you to die quite so soon anymore.”
Ning Shu blinked. Was she supposed to kneel down now and give thanks for his divine mercy?
Zeus looked down at Ning Shu. “I suddenly thought of a form of execution. I want you to try it. That previous business with the eagle pecking out a liver wasn’t terrifying enough.”
Oh, was he playing psychological warfare now?
Ning Shu kept her hands behind her back and asked with a smile: “What kind of torture is it?”
“I will trap you in a sealed tub with only your head exposed. I will slather your body in goat’s milk and honey from bees on the cliffs to attract all sorts of insects, snakes, and ants to feast on you. But you will not die from it. I will feed you every day, and you will defecate inside the tub. While soaking in that filth, you will clearly feel the maggots gnawing at you.”
As Zeus looked at Ning Shu, his face was glowing with divine radiance. Meanwhile, his mouth described such horrors.
Ning Shu remained unfazed and gave a light ‘oh.’
Zeus asked, “Are you not afraid?”
“I’m afraid. Of course I’m afraid,” Ning Shu said. “I also know of a torture method. Do you want to hear it?”
The corner of Zeus’s mouth twitched. She didn’t look like she was afraid at all. She was actually discussing it with him.
Ignoring Zeus’s strange expression, Ning Shu said, “There is a torture called ‘Rats Digging Holes.’ You lock a person and some rats in a confined space and then light a fire. Rats are terrified of fire, so they will frantically dig holes to escape it. Since they can’t dig through an iron cage, they will dig into the person’s body. Once the torture is over, the prisoner’s body is covered in bloody holes with their intestines and organs hanging out of them.”
When it came to slaughtering their own kind or other animals, the tricks humans came up with were truly unique. They made things as miserable and bloody as possible.
Zeus stared at Ning Shu. “You truly are a venomous woman, just as Poseidon said.”
Ning Shu laughed and said, “You flatter me. I certainly can’t compare to you all. I’m just a small-time amateur compared to a master like you. I’m not even worth mentioning.”
Since you want to trade barbs with me, then let’s trade barbs. If we’re going to fight, then I’ll fight with my life on the line.
“Presumptuous!” Zeus’s voice roared like thunder, shaking the undersea palace until it seemed ready to collapse. “You committed the sin of deicide by killing Athena and Poseidon. Your crime is beyond redemption.”
Zeus gripped his lightning, and the divine pressure emanating from him made it hard to breathe.
Ning Shu shook her head. “I didn’t kill them. How could a mere human like me kill a god? Gods aren’t supposed to be that useless. Poseidon and Athena committed suicide.”
Zeus: …
Hearing Ning Shu’s words, Zeus nearly choked on his own spit. He had never met someone who would spout such nonsense right to a god’s face.
She showed contempt for the gods, committed deicide, and now she was even trying to deceive a deity. He had truly never seen such a brazen person. If he didn’t kill her, he wouldn’t be able to vent the fury in his heart.
Ning Shu saw Zeus’s eyes go wide with rage, bulging like copper bells. He looked like he was about to explode, so she quickly turned invisible.
Even though Ning Shu was invisible, Zeus was able to sense her presence through the fluctuations in the air. He struck out at her with a bolt of lightning.
Zeus’s lightning power was exceptionally formidable. Even though Ning Shu was now capable of absorbing lightning, this particular bolt was incredibly powerful. It left her entire body numb, and it took quite a while to finally absorb the energy.
Even after it was absorbed, the lightning power caused a sharp, tugging pain in Ning Shu’s internal core. As expected of lightning sent by the lord of lightning himself, it was almost unbearable. Even after entering her internal core, the lightning actually tried to burst out of her body to return to Zeus’s hand.
Ning Shu simply released a lightning dragon to alleviate the discomfort in her internal core.
The lightning dragon charged toward Zeus. When Zeus saw the dragon, he appeared extremely angry. He was the lord of lightning, yet someone was actually using his own power against him. It was a joke.
The lightning in Zeus’s hand directly slashed through the dragon, instantly shattering it. The lightning power was then absorbed back into the bolt in Zeus’s hand.
After Zeus reclaimed the power, several needles as thin as cow hair flew toward him at high speed. Zeus dodged the needles, but they performed a mid-air turn and rushed straight back at him.
Zeus was a proud man. He had dodged before because Athena and Poseidon had both fallen to this trick. Having already dodged once, his pride as the king of the gods would not allow him to do so again as they chased him.
Zeus used his shield to block the needles. Although the needles were small, the violent power compressed within them exploded the moment they encountered outside interference.
Zeus was blown backward by the massive force, crashing into a pillar. The pillar snapped upon impact, and the crystal-like undersea palace began to teeter.
Despite the grand display, Zeus was not actually harmed. However, his face was as black as it could possibly be. He scanned the palace hall and closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them, he could vaguely see Ning Shu’s figure. Although he couldn’t see her clearly, he could pinpoint her location.
Zeus raised his lightning high. A sharp bolt that seemed capable of slicing through heaven and earth struck down toward Ning Shu.
This was a level of power that not even gods could withstand.
Seeing such terrifying power, Ning Shu was naturally not stupid enough to face it head-on. If she was severely injured and caught by Zeus, her life from then on would be unimaginably difficult.
Ning Shu didn’t believe for a second that she would be treated well, especially after killing two gods and fighting a primary god. She wouldn’t be able to escape the charges of blasphemy and deicide.
What if Zeus decided to test every single one of those torture methods on her?
Furthermore, Zeus was now truly enraged. He was fighting with real fury.
