Chapter 1249: THE DORM ROOM
THE car pulled to a stop in front of the dormitory building where Luo Yan would be staying. He stepped out and stared up at the familiar structure. Just like when they'd entered the campus earlier, a wave of nostalgia hit him hard. This was the exact same dorm building he'd lived in during his college days in his previous life.
His gaze drifted to a particular spot near the entrance, and his body shuddered. That was the place where he had died.
He remembered that day clearly. He just walked a few steps from the entrance, feeling all giddy and happy about his job interview, when a flower pot smashed onto his head.
Luo Yan's hand instinctively rose to touch the spot where the flower pot had struck him, his fingers brushing against unmarked skin. A phantom pain pulsed there for just a second. He thought he should feel more shaken, more afraid standing in this place where his old life had ended. But strangely, apart from that initial shudder when he first saw the spot, everything felt... ordinary.
"Xiao Yan, are you ready?"
His father's voice pulled Luo Yan from his thoughts. He turned to see all three of them, his father and brothers, standing by the car now. They had all insisted on coming to help him move into the dorm, despite his protests that he could manage alone. His father had been the most stubborn, joining Luo Ren and Luo Jin in arguing that since he wouldn't see them for a long time, they should cherish every remaining minute together.
Luo Yan couldn't help but smile at the memory. The way they'd acted, you'd think he was leaving for years. His chest warmed as he looked at his family. This, he realized, was why the sight of the place where he died hadn't shaken him more. Their love had filled all the broken spaces inside him without him even noticing. For what felt like the hundredth time since waking up in this new life, he thought about how incredibly fortunate he was to have them.
He smiled and answered, "Yes!"

When they reached Luo Yan's assigned dorm room, he stopped in surprise at the doorway. Instead of the usual four-person setup with bunk beds, there were only two single beds in the room. His eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion. One bed in particular caught his attention. It looked unusually luxurious for a dorm, with a thick blue comforter that seemed too plush for student housing. A large wooden closet stood beside it, along with a proper study desk that looked more expensive than standard university furniture.
Luo Yan turned to give his father a questioning look. His father cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably, that familiar guilty expression crossing his face. That was all the confirmation Luo Yan needed to know that his father had definitely meddled with the dorm arrangements.
"Dad," Luo Yan said, his voice carrying a scolding tone, though there was an underlying amusement beneath. "What did you do?"
His father cleared his throat again. "I found out the university actually offers some rooms for just two students. So I pulled a few strings to get you one of them. And since it was empty, I thought I'd set everything up properly before you arrived. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about settling in."
Luo Yan felt a wave of helpless amusement wash over him. "Dad, it's just one month. After that, I'll be moving in with Uncle Chen. A regular four-person dorm would have been fine."
"Don't be mad, Yan Yan," Luo Ren cajoled. "Dad was just thinking of your comfort. No matter how short you'll be staying here."
"I know," Luo Yan said, his voice softening. "That's why I'm not mad. But you have to admit, this is a little excessive."
"What excessive?" Luo Jin snorted. "This place doesn't even have a private bathroom!"
Luo Wei Tian, who had been feeling slightly guilty, relaxed with a chuckle at his youngest son's words. "Exactly. This is just the bare minimum."
Luo Yan exhaled a quiet laugh, shaking his head as warmth filled him. Of course, his family's thoughts regarding his accommodation would be like this. That familiar mix of amusement and fondness bubbled up, making his lips curve without thought.
"Alright then," Luo Yan said, his voice warm. "Thank you for always being such a considerate Dad." He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his father. "I'll miss you, Dad. Remember to eat properly and go easy on the coffee."
Luo Wei Tian froze for a heartbeat before wrapping his arms tightly around his son. "I'll miss you too," he murmured, his voice thicker than usual. "And don't you skip meals either. Make sure to dress warmly when it rains and call us if you need anything at all. Don't stay up too late studying, and..."
He trailed off, giving Luo Yan an extra squeeze, as if he could press all his unspoken worries into that one embrace. He slowly loosened his hold, pulling back just enough to look at Luo Yan. There were still so many things he wanted to say, but his throat felt tight. If he kept talking now, his voice might crack, and the last thing he wanted was for Luo Yan to see him cry.
"Is it my turn?" Luo Ren asked, opening his arms as if waiting for Luo Yan to hug him next.
Luo Yan laughed softly and hugged his older brother. "Don't work yourself too hard," he murmured. "And take good care of Jiao Jiao for me."
Luo Ren tightened the hug slightly. "Same goes for you. Make sure to rest when you need to. And don't worry about Jiao Jiao. I'll be there for her."
Satisfied with that answer, Luo Yan turned to Luo Jin next. His little brother wore that familiar 'don't even think about hugging me' expression. Which, naturally, made it impossible for Luo Yan to resist tackling him like they were kids.
"Try to keep your temper in check sometimes," Luo Yan said, still holding onto his squirming brother. "And please try to befriend your classmates. I promise, it will make your last year in high school infinitely better."
"Tsk. Fine. Just let go already," Luo Jin grumbled, but his hands stayed clenched in the back of Luo Yan's shirt, not actually pushing.
And Luo Yan just laughed out loud at that.
