Chapter 6376 Dark Will
After the battle with Cang Lu, Long Chen was completely exhausted. At this time, he sensed danger—several auras were rapidly closing in.
Due to his exhaustion, he couldn’t confirm whether they were experts of the Dark race or simply drawn over by the disturbance. But he knew he wasn’t fit for another fight.
Grabbing Cang Lu, Long Chen tore through the void and vanished.
...
In a secluded area, Evilmoon transformed into millions of petals and wove a barrier around Long Chen.
“Evilmoon, are you alright?” asked Long Chen.
After all, he had just poured every drop of his astral energy into it.
If Evilmoon was also weakened, refining Cang Lu into a puppet would have to wait. Though their souls were connected, Long Chen’s perception of Evilmoon was still strangely indistinct—a curious phenomenon. Still, he did not doubt Evilmoon. There had to be some other reason for this indistinct perception.
“I’m fine,” Evilmoon replied. “I didn’t even use my own power. That strike was entirely your astral energy. I was planning to add some, but it would have been a waste, so I didn’t bother.”
Hearing this, Long Chen froze. If that devastating strike had been purely his own strength, then once he learned to fully control it, it would be unimaginable. But without Evilmoon, he would never dare attempt such an attack—it would likely detonate his body.
Perhaps it was fortunate Evilmoon had held back. Otherwise, not only would the Bloodfiend Halberd have been obliterated, but Cang Lu would have been reduced to dust as well.
“My energy is precious,” Evilmoon added with a mysterious chuckle. “I’ll save it for something big. When the time comes, I’ll give you a surprise.”
Long Chen laughed softly. The stronger Evilmoon became, the better. Ideally, it would one day grow strong enough to slaughter all his enemies outright.
Since Evilmoon was fine, Long Chen’s worry eased. With Evilmoon at his side, his safety was assured.
Long Chen then tossed Cang Lu’s limp body onto the ground. There was no reaction—Cang Lu was barely clinging to life.
“Senior, protect me!”
Long Chen’s expression turned serious. Refining Cang Lu into a puppet was not going to be easy. The odds of success were slim, and failure meant backlash. Long Chen didn’t dare to be careless.
The Earth Cauldron appeared above Long Chen and released a wave of divine light that enveloped him.
It said, “Go ahead and refine Cang Lu. I can help you with everything else, but the Dark Master’s will buried in his body is yours to face. With your willpower, you should be able to overcome it. Even if you can’t, you should be able to escape relatively unscathed. Compared to the value of a puppet with limitless potential, the risk is worth it. Are you ready?”
Long Chen nodded and sat down in front of Cang Lu. As he formed hand seals, blood-colored runes surged from his head, layering over Cang Lu like a net.
It was the Heavenly Soul Blood Curse, the secret art taught by the green parrot. Long Chen had never cared for it much, as he preferred to cut down enemies directly rather than use puppets. However, the Earth Cauldron had insisted its origins were extraordinary, and that the parrot itself was no ordinary creature.
The blood runes quickly cocooned Cang Lu until he appeared clad in a thick armor of crimson light. His body shuddered as if some restriction had been triggered.
Long Chen then took a deep breath and changed his hand seals. A miniature version of himself flew out of his forehead and entered Cang Lu’s.
It was his Yuan Spirit. He rarely used it because it was fragile and easily wounded. Not being a soul cultivator, he had never specialized in nurturing his Yuan Spirit and using it for fighting. But this time, he had no choice.
Within Cang Lu’s mind-sea, Long Chen saw a towering black gate. Its doors were sealed shut, bound by a massive spider diagram. Countless chains crisscrossed the gate, and each of them brimmed with spiritual energy.
“These chains... they seal Cang Lu’s memories,” Long Chen murmured.
“Perhaps this is why Cang Lu did not recognize Evilmoon,” said the Earth Cauldron.
“Why would the Dark Master do this?” Long Chen asked, baffled.
“Perhaps it wasn’t the Dark Master,” the Earth Cauldron said. “Cang Lu may be a Dark Son, but there are others. The Dark line’s legacy is divine, and the Dark Sons are simply its most gifted believers—pawns, really. The Dark Master can claim their lives at any moment. To turn Cang Lu’s memories into chains that they could undo in time, the one responsible has to be an apex figure of the Dark line.”
“How can you be sure it wasn’t the Dark Master?” Long Chen pressed.
“Because at that time, the Dark Master was already slain.”
“Slain? By whom?” Long Chen demanded, though his heart had already supplied the answer.
Who but the Nine Star Master could slay the Dark Master? But Cang Lu had said it was the opposite—that the Dark Master had slain the Nine Star Master. Could they have perished together?
“You can find the answers in these chains. Once you refine Cang Lu into a puppet, you can undo these chains one by one and uncover the secrets of the primal chaos era,” replied the Earth Cauldron.
Long Chen eyed those black chains with increased anticipation. Perhaps they held the greatest mysteries of the nine heavens and ten lands.
Long Chen’s resolve hardened. No matter what, he had to succeed. The answers to the questions he had been searching for were probably right there. Just what had happened to the nine heavens and ten lands? What had caused the primal chaos war?
Long Chen’s Yuan Spirit advanced toward the giant spider rune that sealed the gate. The closer he came, the more oppressive its aura grew. It was a dark, bloodthirsty, and primal force that dragged forth the deepest fears of the heart.
A weaker will would collapse instantly under such pressure. However, Long Chen simply pressed on.
At last, he placed his hand upon the spider’s head.
Space warped. The world sank into darkness.
From within the endless darkness, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed. Then, an enormous figure emerged from the shadows.
