Chapter 6273 Heaven Region Devil Sea
Ming Yu grew anxious as she watched the red-haired man slip further and further away. Though her reaction speed was fast, it was still slower than Long Chen’s.
It was only thanks to Long Chen’s warning that she remembered—the Heavenly Bat Sovereigness’s revival would take a long time. If word spread, the devil race of the other world would swarm here to annihilate them. By then, not just the Shadow Devil Bat race, even if the full forces of the nine heavens united, it would still be impossible to protect the divine statue.
After all, one strike landing on the statue would be enough to interrupt the Sovereigness’s rebirth.
Long Chen was too exhausted to pursue the red-haired man. Ming Yu chased after but could only watch as the red-haired man got further. Seeing that he was on the verge of escaping, she almost teared up from how anxious she was.
But then, everything changed. A coffin materialized from nowhere, swallowing the red-haired man whole. Following that, a cloaked figure appeared atop the coffin.
With his hands clasped behind his back, he declared grandly, “The Limitless—”
“Limitless, my ass! Will you die if you don’t say that every time?” Long Chen cut him off without hesitation.
The cloaked figure was none other than Mo Nian. Seeing him arrive and trap the red-haired man, Long Chen exhaled in relief. However, Long Chen couldn’t stand watching him chant his wretched opening again and immediately interrupted.
Without getting angry, Mo Nian slowly flew over.
Seeing the devastation of the battlefield, Mo Nian couldn’t help but cry out, “Aiya, seems like I missed a chance to show off.”
Realizing this was Long Chen’s ally, Ming Yu finally relaxed. She bowed deeply. “Many thanks for your aid. The Shadow Devil Bat race will not forget this favor.”
Mo Nian laughed delightedly. “Sister-in-law, no need for thanks between—”
“Scram!” Long Chen barked.
“Sister-in-law?” Ming Yu blinked. The term didn’t exist among her people, but judging by Mo Nian’s wretched grin and Long Chen’s expression, her cheeks heated as she vaguely grasped its meaning.
“Why are you here?” Long Chen quickly diverted the topic before Mo Nian could continue his nonsense.
With a solemn expression, Mo Nian explained, “Last night, I was reading the stars. A terrible omen appeared in the south—fire rising from the southern heavens. And you, my only friend with flame energy, came to mind. I knew you were in danger, so I rushed over immediately. As expected, I’m truly your lucky star. With me here, calamity turns to fortune, danger turns to peace...”
Ming Yu stared at him, wide-eyed. This man can read the stars?
His tone was so convincing she almost believed him.
Waving him off impatiently, Long Chen said, “As long as you stop bragging, we’re still good brothers. Now tell me the real reason you’re here.”
“Cough, fine. After arriving on the heaven region’s battlefield, I started pursuing the clues of lost history. I traced back the flow of time in search of buried treasure lands. My luck wasn’t bad—I really did discover an extraordinary place. But that place was an island surrounded by pitch-black seawater. The surface looked calm, yet beneath it surged terrifying undercurrents,” said Mo Nian, gesturing with his hands.
“That’s the heaven region devil sea! You went there?!” Ming Yu gasped, covering her mouth in shock.
“You know that place? Hmph, there’s no way to get into that hellhole. I just passed through one region and was immediately dragged into an undercurrent, which contained spatial and temporal laws. I barely escaped and somehow ended up near here. Then I heard the commotion, came over to look, and happened to catch that fellow threatening you. So, I bagged him.”
After the explanation, Mo Nian casually kicked the coffin beneath his feet.
“We can talk about the heaven region devil sea later. Mo Nian, see if you can help with this,” Long Chen said, gesturing for Ming Yu to lead him toward the Heavenly Bat Sovereigness’s statue.
The instant Mo Nian laid eyes on it, his eyes nearly popped from their sockets.
He shouted, “By the heavens! Such a dense Grand Dao qi! This... Is this a Divine Sovereign Dao-Fruit? And not just any Dao-Fruit—its qi is so rich it must belong to a heavenly chosen from the primal chaos era! This is a seed with the potential to become a Heavenly Sovereign! Long Chen, are you... are you giving me this chance?”
Ming Yu’s expression tensed slightly, but Long Chen actually nodded.
Long Chen replied, “That’s right, the Divine Sovereign Dao-Fruit is choosing its heir. Go ahead and kowtow. I’ve already kowtowed and failed—it didn’t choose me.”
“Kowtow?” Mo Nian asked, staring at Long Chen suspiciously. “Are you joking?”
“You’re the one joking first.” Long Chen rolled his eyes.
Ming Yu let out a silent sigh. Even if Mo Nian was teasing, his words were too much. If anyone else dared make light of the Heavenly Bat Sovereigness, she would have struck them down without hesitation.
“Hehe, don’t be so serious. Fine, what do you want me to do?” Mo Nian asked, relenting.
Even Mo Nian could feel he’d gone a bit too far. The Shadow Devil Bat experts were glaring daggers at him.
“Can you move her without disturbing her?” asked Long Chen gravely. “This battle has already drawn too much attention. If others discover the Sovereigness is reviving, it will be a disaster.”
The Heavenly Bat Sovereigness’s rebirth could not be interrupted under any circumstances. Disturbing her now would destroy everything. However, the Grand Dao qi seeping from the statue was growing stronger by the moment—like a beacon calling to the world. If they didn’t conceal it, calamity would come crashing down on them.
Mo Nian nodded and started circling the divine statue. He drew out a compass, pointing it in different directions, muttering as his fingers traced rapid calculations.
Ming Yu turned her gaze to Long Chen.
His face was pale, yet he refused to rest. To protect the Shadow Devil Bat race, he had gone against his own kin, slaughtering so many nine star heirs. He had provoked a calamity, so how was he ever supposed to return to the nine star line?
Thinking of that, Ming Yu felt a wave of grief. If she were in his place, would she have had the resolve to do the same? Would she have dared?
Long Chen already had countless powerful enemies, yet he still dragged his exhausted body forward, doing everything in his power to protect their divine statue. He even asked Mo Nian to protect it. His kindness was beyond repayment.
Suddenly, a thought struck Ming Yu. Was this what the Nine Star Master had been like? Was this why her ancestors had followed him unto death?
In Ming Yu’s mind, the image of the legendary Nine Star Master slowly merged with Long Chen’s weary figure. The sight stirred fierce waves within her heart.
“I have some bad news,” Mo Nian muttered.
Mo Nian finally put away his compass and shook his head gravely, causing Ming Yu and the others’ hearts to clench with dread.
