Chapter 5023: Joyful Reunion
After not seeing him for a while, she noticed he’d grown taller again, and couldn’t help but smile. Lifting him up, she sat him on her lap. Watching the little guy’s face flush with embarrassment, she found it utterly amusing.
“What’s this? You’re shy when your Mother holds you?” She teased him playfully, gently tapping his nose with her finger.
“Mother, I’m a boy. I can’t always let you hold me.” He tried to keep a straight face, but the slight upturn of his lips betrayed his inner delight.
“It’s alright. Even if you’re a boy, you’re still Mother’s precious son. Mother can not only hold you, but also kiss you.” With that, she planted a kiss on his little face. Watching her son blush all the way to his ears, she couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“Son, who do you take after to be so shy?” she asked with amusement.
Muchen’s face flushed crimson, tinged with embarrassment, yet his eyes sparkled with delight. After a moment’s thought, he replied, “Like Father.”
Hearing this, Feng Jiu chuckled softly and nodded in agreement. “Yes, just like your Father. Remember back then? Your father fainted from sheer excitement after just one kiss from Mother.” Recalling the incident, she couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
“Mother!”
“Mother!”
Two joyful voices rang out simultaneously. As the door swung open, Hao’er and Yue’er both scampered toward her.
“Mother, Mother, I missed you so much!” Yue’er, being a girl, knew how to be the most affectionate. She threw herself into Feng Jiu’s arms and nuzzled against her.
“Mother.” Hao’er, acting like the big brother, simply came to her side and called out.
“Sit down, both of you! Tell Mother how you’ve been doing out there these past days?” Feng Jiu set Mu Chen down, letting him sit beside her. She motioned for Hao’er to sit as well, while Yue’er burrowed into her embrace, climbing onto her lap and wrapping her arms tightly around her.
What else could Feng Jiu do but sigh helplessly? She smiled fondly, running a hand through her daughter’s still-damp hair. “Sit still. Mother will dry your hair a bit. You know it’s easy to catch a cold like this, right?”
“I heard Mother talking to Brother, so I quickly dried off and ran out,” Yue’er said, settling into her seat without fidgeting.
Feng Jiu used her spiritual energy to draw the moisture from Yue’er’s hair, then carefully re-tied it before cradling her. As she held her soft, plump daughter, she raised an eyebrow, looked down, and chuckled, “Yue’er, have you gotten fatter again?” The little body felt so soft and plump in her arms, noticeably heavier too.
“Hehe,” Yue’er beamed up at her, then buried her face shyly in her mother’s embrace. “Mother, the food at Sister Mi’er’s house is so delicious! And her brothers make us all these tasty, pretty treats.”
“Hmm, Mother knows. That’s how you’ve gotten so plump.” She gently pinched her chin and shook it playfully. “You’re still young, so eating more is alright. You’ll slim down once you grow taller. But no matter how delicious things are, you must eat in moderation. Don’t always stuff yourself—it’s bad for your health, understand?”
“Mm-hmm, Yue’er understands.” She nodded eagerly.
“Hao’er, did you learn anything following the Song family?” Feng Jiu turned to the boy seated beside her.
“Yes, Mother. We hunted game ourselves, and we also…” Hao’er recounted their forest adventures.
