Chapter 4944: In Peril
She was touched that her master hadn’t avoided her when discussing this matter, and silently vowed to keep this secret. At this moment, it wasn’t appropriate for her master to appear either before Grandfather Guo, as mentioned by Yue’er, or before the Yu family. Therefore, she would have to accompany them.
After all, it was the middle of the night, and only with an adult like her accompanying her would the Yu family and that Old Predecessor Guo allow her to leave so late.
Feng Jiu listened to her words without objection, merely nodding in agreement. “Alright, you may accompany her. After bidding them farewell, return to the inn. We shall await your return there.”
“Understood.” Yue’er and Mi’er both acknowledged before rising and heading downstairs.
After they departed, Feng Jiu led the two children toward the inn, intending to wait there for their return.
At the Yu residence, though brightly lit, an eerie silence hung in the air.
Yue’er led Mi’er toward the Yu residence, saying as they walked, “It’s just up ahead. Strangely, their gate’s broken today—no door to close. But there are several guards stationed there.”
As they spoke, they reached the main gate. Just as Yue’er was about to step inside, Song Mi’er suddenly pulled her back with a look of alarm, shielding her behind her.
“What’s wrong?” Yue’er froze, looking up at her.
“Something’s off. I smell blood,” Song Mi’er said, frowning. “Something’s wrong in there.”
Thanks to her obstruction and warning, Yue’er standing by the gate also caught the scent of blood in the air. Her expression shifted slightly. In that instant, a voice echoed from behind them.
“Since you’ve seen us, you’ll stay behind too!”
The voice carried a bone-chilling intent to kill. As soon as it spoke, a gust of air whistled toward them.
With no escape route, the two at the gate had no choice but to retreat into the Yu residence. Yet the moment they entered, they sensed the entire Yu estate was sealed within a barrier. Sounds and the turbulent air from the fight wouldn’t spill out, ensuring no one else was alerted.
Throughout the estate, the guards who should have been stationed at the gates now lay sprawled on the ground. From the direction of the rear courtyard came the sounds of combat and agonized screams.
“Watch out!” Mi’er shouted, twisting her wrist as a frying pan shot out, striking toward the attacker.
The frying pan whizzed toward the figure, spinning and growing larger as it flew. It slammed down with a thud, but after the attack was blocked, it returned to Song Mi’er’s hand.
“Lion!”
Yue’er called out, glancing toward the backyard. “Go check on Grandfather Guo!” After all, they’d traveled together this far. Whatever had happened, protecting him was the top priority.
“Roar!” Lion let out a deep roar and darted toward the backyard.
“A Sacred Beast!”
The middle-aged man who had attacked Mi’er narrowed his eyes, fixing a cold stare on Yue’er. He seemed to be trying to figure out who she was. Such a young child, and she had a Sacred Beast by her side?
In the rear courtyard, Old Predecessor Yu and Old Predecessor Guo were fighting together against the three attackers. Most of the household servants had fallen unconscious after consuming the laced food and water. Only these two, possessing deeper cultivation, remained alert.
Moreover, they hadn’t eaten anything, only drinking tea. Their profound strength allowed them to barely hold on here.
But even now, they were merely clinging on. The entire manor was shrouded in barriers and formations, leaving them with no way to call for help. Even if their entire family were wiped out tonight, it seemed no one would ever know…
