2802 Overloading The Array
With the first batch sent out safely, Lin Mu and Daoist Chu got to work again.
"Charge up the array again!" Daoist Chu ordered.
"Loading Immortal Stones," the other formation masters informed.
They controlled the storage array to add more Immortal Stones to the teleportation array, and it began to absorb the Qi from them. Now all they needed to do was wait.
"How long until the array is ready for use again?" Lin Mu asked.
"Ten minutes to charge, and another three minutes to activate it," someone replied.
"Ten minutes?" Lin Mu raised his brows.
This much time would simply not do. While he still had the Demolishing Arrays set around the teleportation building as an additional safeguard, he didn't wish to rely on them. He also didn't know how long the Inquisitors and the Clergy would take to act.
'The Transcendent Expert will likely act soon,' Lin Mu thought, knowing they were running out of time. "Can we speed up the absorption?" he asked.
"We can if we overload it," Daoist Chu replied. "But I don't know how many times we can do it," he added.
"Hmm… do it." Lin Mu didn't care about the well-being of the array. "It can still handle four more batches, right?" he asked.
"It should be able to," Daoist Chu said after checking.
"Then there's no problem. Overload it!" Lin Mu ordered.
"You heard him! Overload the teleportation array!" Daoist Chu echoed.
"On it!" the formation masters replied as they got to work.
Overloading the array was not as simple as just talking about it. They not only needed to monitor it carefully and manage the fluctuations in power, but also perform repairs on the fly due to the damage caused by the stress.
Thankfully, all the formation masters had decided to stay till the end, choosing to go in the second-last batch, just before Lin Mu and his companions.
As such, the work was far faster than it might have been otherwise.
And sure enough, just five minutes later, the array was fully charged—half the time it would normally take.
"Array charged!"
"Damage at one percent."
"Stability is sufficient!"
"Begin initialization."
Everyone got to work again, and soon the array was ready for the second batch.
"Enter!" Lin Mu commanded as another hundred cultivators stepped into the circle.
SHUA
In the next second, they all disappeared, sent into the teleportation channel. Lin Mu checked the space with his Spatial Perception just to ensure there were no hiccups.
After all, they were overloading the array beyond its safe limits, and there was always a chance something could go wrong.
"Load the Immortal Stones again!" Lin Mu ordered.
The formation masters got to work, while the others waited around anxiously.
Two more batches of cultivators were still waiting, and only after they had left would Lin Mu be able to depart.
It wasn't that he didn't want to leave earlier—it was simply that he couldn't. The time required to activate the array was longer for their destination, and setting the coordinates was no easy task either.
Two coordinates could be set at once in the teleportation array.
Usually, this was used for arrivals and departures, but since no one was arriving, they were using both endpoints for outbound travel. One would be set for Lin Mu, and the other for the rest of the cultivators headed to the Nubai World.
Eight minutes later, the third batch was sent off, and only one more remained.
SHA SHA SHA SHA
Lin Mu sensed particular energy fluctuations coming from afar, which made him instantly alert.
"Shrubby," Lin Mu called out the beast. "Check out what's happening and report immediately."
"Yes," Little Shrubby replied before turning into a red streak and vanishing.
Just a minute later, Lin Mu received his answer.
"Master, the enemies are coming. There's at least a thousand of them," Little Shrubby informed.
"Already? Looks like they managed to stabilize it somewhat," Lin Mu frowned. "What's the strongest among them?" he asked.
"There's three that look like those Archbishops and are probably at the Sixth Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm," Ashy reported after sensing their auras.
"Sixth?" Lin Mu knew this wasn't something Little Shrubby could handle alone. "Alright, I'm coming," he said.
"I'll take care of the coordinates. You go stop them," Daoist Chu took over the task instantly.
"Alright," Lin Mu replied as he left.
Meng Bai watched him go, anxiety clearly visible in his eyes, but he said nothing. He knew this was something only Lin Mu could do—and all their lives depended on it.
The number of Inquisitors was smaller than that of the clergy, numbering around a hundred.
'Looks like they haven't recovered as much,' Lin Mu thought.
In the first place, the number of Inquisitors in the city had always been lower than all the other divisions. In fact, their numbers were fewer than even the common guards of the city.
And since Lin Mu had destroyed their fortress, around half of them had either been killed or injured beyond recovery. Add to that the chaos of handling the aftermath, and it was obvious why they were unable to send more.
The only ones who had arrived in force were the clergy from the other churches and cathedrals that had not been targeted by Lin Mu.
Lin Mu's gaze sharpened as he looked at the army—a red stream weaving and wading through them, picking off all those too weak to stand against it.
"Xiao Yin, Xiao Yang." Seeing Little Shrubby hard at work, he called out the twins as well.
"Master," the twins responded in unison.
"Time to kill," he said, a cold glint shining in his eyes.
HISS
"Gladly." The twins said, an aura of slaughter rising from them.
