Chapter 2761 A Halt To Schemes
It was now nighttime, and Lin Mu was back at the villa after a day of shopping and exploring the city. He had visited several herb shops, stocking up on new herbs he hadn't seen before, along with others that could prove useful.
He had wanted to visit more shops, but it was already getting late, so he decided to return.
Monk Hushu was sitting in the main hall, drinking tea, while Little Shrubby was also present, in charge of making the tea.
"Daoist Chu hasn't returned?" Lin Mu asked.
"He's still out," Little Shrubby replied.
"How about Meng Bai?" Lin Mu asked next.
"He returned all tired earlier. He already ate and is cultivating," Little Shrubby informed him.
Sigh.
"Guess the trio gave him trouble again," Lin Mu muttered. 'At least I didn't hear any new rumors in the city or hear about an uproar, so it should still be fine,' he thought to himself.
"They didn't cause much trouble today," Little Shrubby replied. "They went to some island nearby and fished more."
"I see... as long as they're away from the city, it shouldn't be a problem," Lin Mu muttered.
Seeing that the day had gone relatively well, aside from his own encounter, Lin Mu was satisfied. He ate his meal with Little Shrubby and then went to cultivate. Daoist Chu, however, did not turn up for dinner, simply sending a message that he'd be out all night.
The next three days passed rather calmly. Lin Mu explored the city in disguise, collected more items, and acquired some new books. During this time, he also finished his work on the courtyard, ensuring it was ready for use whenever they activated the Teleportation Gate.
"Eight days left," Lin Mu counted as he sat reading a new book in the cabana.
This spot had quickly become his favorite. The sound of the waves provided the perfect background ambiance, making it the ideal place to enjoy a book.
But while Lin Mu relaxed, a few other people had been hard at work.
At the Wanchai Tea House, the twelve beauties gathered once more. This time, instead of their usual balcony seating, they met in a private room at the very top.
"So, what did you all find?" the green-robed woman asked.
"Quite a lot, Mistress," the attendant replied. "Please have a look yourself… it's overwhelming."
He had never expected that their mistress's curiosity would lead them on such an intense quest for information. They had to tap into many channels to gather details about Lin Mu, and what they uncovered left them utterly shocked.
The Ten Petal Pavilion had kept most of the news under wraps due to Lady Kang's orders, but with so many witnesses, information was bound to leak. This was why even the Capital City hadn't learned much about Lin Mu, aside from the fact that the River Bending Axe Sect had been tainted by Cursed Energy of Corruption.
The official statement was that the corruption had spread among the sect's people, prompting various powers to take action under the Grand Elder's permission. The Buddhist temple had then led a grand ritual to purify the energy.
Meanwhile, information about the Filth Bone River Cult had been deliberately suppressed by the Imperial Court. The matter was too sensitive and tied to the empire's history, so only a select few knew the truth. To the general public, the event was merely the discovery of another old demon relic—shocking, but not unprecedented.
However, if people knew the real scope of what had happened, they would realize this was on an entirely different scale.
The twelve beauties were about to learn that truth now, and they read the reports with great interest.
Lady Yeon meticulously went through each detail, feeling both thrilled and captivated by Lin Mu's actions.
"To think there would be such an individual," the yellow-robed woman said, stunned.
"He eradicated an entire sect alone, uncovered a massive demon relic… and he's affiliated with several influential figures," the lavender-robed woman added.
"And he's part of the Immortal Court of all places. We can't even touch him now," the green-robed woman stated, realizing that all their schemes had come to an abrupt halt.
Lin Mu had too many powerful individuals and factions backing him. Even the Imperial Court would have to think twice before making a move against him. Any misstep could lead to a diplomatic incident with the Immortal Court—a nightmare scenario over something as trivial as a noblewoman's desires. While these women were powerful in their own right, their influence was nothing compared to the empire's larger interests.
Moreover, Lin Mu had done nothing to warrant hostility. If anything, they would be the ones at fault if they tried anything against him. And if they overstepped, the consequences could be dire.
Lin Mu had already set a precedent with the River Bending Axe Sect.
"Heavens… if he alone could annihilate a sect like that, fighting multiple Seventh Tribulation Stage experts, wouldn't our clans be erased overnight?" the red-robed woman asked in horror.
"We had a tiger hiding in our midst, and we were about to tease it," one of the women said, shuddering.
"Not a tiger," Lady Yeon corrected, a sly smile playing on her lips. "A dragon."
Hearing her words, the other beauties couldn't help but nod.
After talking for a bit though, the twelve beauties and realized a major issue.
"Won't this be a problem for you though, Lady Yeon?" The green robed woman asked.
"Yeah we can't approach him like this." The yellow robed woman stated.
"That's only if we take a hard approach." Lady Yeon replied. "For a man like this we need a softer approach. And I know just what to do." She said, a tantalizing smile appearing on her face.
"What will you do?" they wondered.
"Leave that to me." Lady Yeon replied. "You all don't have to concern yourself with him." She stated.
The twelve beauties were taken aback but nodded. But Lady Yeon was not done yet.
