Chapter 4172: Progression! I
In the Transcendent Temporal Folds, beneath the ever-expanding canopy of the Tree of Unity, Noah watched Schrodinger’s retreating figure with eyes that processed information on multiple levels simultaneously.
The beggar-paradox moved through the crowd with that particular gait of someone who had just confirmed something important, though what that something might be remained locked behind his perpetual smile.
Beside Noah, Khor shifted slightly, and when she spoke, it wasn’t with her voice but directly into his consciousness...a private communication that bypassed sound entirely.
’In the olden times,’ her mental voice carried weight that suggested firsthand memory rather than historical knowledge, ’when it had gotten to the point where Early Creatures were unruly and spreading chaos and decimation across the Earliest Folds, THE Living Law had sought a weapon in order to keep them under control.’
Noah’s attention sharpened, though his expression remained unchanged.
Around them, the amphitheater buzzed with discussions of unity and cooperation, but this private revelation cast everything in a different light.
’I may be wrong,’ Khor continued, though her tone suggested she rarely was, ’but based on what I remember, the tiny leaf that the existence you call Schrodinger pulled out should possibly be a part of that weapon that was utilized by THE Living Law at that time.’
HUUM!
She turned to face him directly then, her ancient eyes containing depths that had seen the rise and fall of concepts themselves.
’Though, what is even more astounding is the fact that a weapon that is highly effective against Early Creatures was pulled out against you, and yet, you did not even falter or sense anything.’ A pause, heavy with implication. ’Outsider, you... are an Early Creature, right?’
...!
The question hung between them with daring that transcended simple inquiry. It was the kind of question that could reshape understanding of everything!
Noah’s mind raced through the implications with the speed of someone who had long ago learned that survival often depended on understanding what others truly wanted before they knew it themselves.
Schrodinger had pulled out that leaf specifically because he believed Noah was an Early Creature. It had been a test...elegant in its simplicity, terrifying in its implications.
The leaf hadn’t worked.
Which meant Schrodinger now faced two possible conclusions: either Noah wasn’t an Early Creature at all, which would overturn numerous assumptions about his nature and power, or- and this was the more disturbing possibility, Noah was indeed an Early Creature, but one against whom traditional weapons simply didn’t function.
The question that naturally followed made Noah’s thoughts spiral into deeper analysis. Why exactly would a weapon utilized and effective against Early Creatures not work against him?
He possessed astounding concepts, certainly.
The Protagonist, Cheats, Tyranny, and others that defied conventional understanding. But at the end of the day, Noah knew who he was...or at least, he thought he did. He didn’t consider himself unfathomably special, despite evidence increasingly suggesting otherwise.
The only theoretical difference he could identify was in the fundamental structure of his existence compared to other Early Creatures!
He wasn’t simply an Early Creature...he was The Early Creature, Osmont. Part of him was also an Inevitability, a hybrid nature that shouldn’t exist. His progression of power followed patterns drastically different from any Early Creature recorded in history.
None of them held the Towers of Osmont that rose within his being like monuments to impossible achievement!
None possessed the Early Atlas of the Folds that provided pathways to temporal traversal of the Earliest Folds themselves.
His very physiology, his way of existing, was fundamentally distinct from traditional Early Creatures.
But he couldn’t say with certainty which aspect had rendered him immune to the leaf’s effects. Was it his hybrid nature? The Towers? The Atlas? His Infinite Mana? Or perhaps something else entirely?
He filed these questions away for future contemplation as more immediate matters demanded attention.
Returning to where Sigrid stood, he found her wearing an expression of barely contained annoyance while Beast Shepherdess Miki bounced enthusiastically nearby, Fluffy’s massive form creating its own gravitational field of terror and oddly endearing loyalty.
"Beast Shepherdess Miki here," Sigrid said with the particular tone of someone delivering a report they found personally irritating, "and her supposedly sweet Spirit Beast Fluffy seem to want to bask in the light of Order. Fluffy is apparently cursed with rage, and my authority helped calm it earlier."
Noah raised his eyebrows at this, glancing at the enthusiastic Miki who was practically vibrating with excitement.
Her smile could have powered small civilizations with its brightness. He shook his head slightly, then looked up at the radiant Tree of Unity that continued to grow with each new contribution of authority.
A decisive light flashed in his eyes as he made a choice that would ripple through the gathering.
His voice rang out with clarity that cut through the ambient conversations.
"We shall reinforce the forces in the Wandering Territories against The Dead."
WAA!
The declaration landed with weight that made numerous beings turn their attention toward him.
He wanted to expand his field of knowledge, certainly, but more than that, the sanctuary of The First Farmer hidden in the Wandering Territories was of great interest to him.
This was the entity who had, through whatever chain of causality, provided him with the Failed Seed that had become the Principle of Perpetual Harvest. Understanding that connection felt crucial to understanding himself.
His words created a cascade effect!
Origin Ama Gias, not to be outdone and allow THE Living Order to slip past her, raised her voice with authority that made space itself stand at attention.
"The Living Origins shall also reinforce the Wandering Territories. We will not allow The Dead to gain foothold there."
Beast Shepherdess Miki practically exploded with enthusiasm. "Oh yes! Yes! Fluffy and I will definitely help! The Wandering Territories sound amazing! Plus, Fluffy needs more meat, don’t you, boy?"
She patted the quadrillion-complexity beast like it was a regular dog, which somehow made the scene more terrifying rather than less.
Melancholic Sovereign Drai rose with his characteristic aura of depression that made nearby beings unconsciously slouch.
"Since we’re all going to die eventually anyway, might as well die together in the Wandering Territories. At leastm... the scenery might be different before the inevitable end."
"..."
His words were fucking depressive!
Among the Living Paradoxes, a more subtle exchange was taking place.
Schrodinger had sidled up to the massive form of Goliath, whose serpentine body redefined the local geography simply by existing.
"Hey, scary guy," Schrodinger said with casual familiarity that would have been suicidal from anyone else, "you might benefit more to send one of your bodies over to the Wandering Territories. Many more exquisite things to eat there, and you could keep an eye on that... Osmontian for me."
Goliath didn’t even turn to acknowledge Schrodinger, his voice emerging from everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.
"Do not cause too much chaos. Otherwise, you will add me to your list of enemies."
...!
