He felt the air move in front of him and a hideous silhouette appeared in his peripheral vision, blocking everything in sight.
Even though he was a cultivator and a warrior that fought on the front lines every few days, death wasn't something he often faced. But now he had no other choice.
Although strangely enough, he wasn't nervous in this last moment. His heartbeat slowed down and a strange feeling overcame him.
He closed his eyes, accepting his fate. There was no better way to go out than trying to save the man that was like a second father to him. He wouldn't have it any other way.
"Come," he whispered, getting ready for a final rush of pain before embracing the darkness, but it never came. A few passed and he slowly opened his eyes to see the massive silhouette staring in another direction, completely ignoring his existence.
All the other warriors that were looking at the creature were also now looking in the same direction it was. He followed their line of sight and saw something he would remember for the rest of his life.
It was a human boy.
He stood at the edge of the runway, on top of a mid-sized pirate ship. His eyes were closed and it looked like he was simply enjoying the cold breeze as it brushed past his face with his arms outstretched, facing the hole in the broken barrier.
There was a battle going on just a couple of hundred meters away yet it had nothing to do with him. But that wasn't even the most shocking thing.
A strange aura was continuously being released from his body. It passed through every creature on the runway no matter the cultivation, making their hearts skip a beat.
Lightning danced in the sky above merrily, almost as if it was welcoming him.
There was a smile on his face which along with his fair skin and long hair made him look mesmerizing to everyone present. He almost looked otherworldly.
It was, of course, Hao Xuan.
"I can finally feel it. This is the true power of the Immortal Devouring Demon Physique," he mumbled upon feeling the new strength moving through his veins.
*Screech*
A loud screech came from his left side, interrupting his 'enjoyment'. He opened his eyes and looked towards it. Two groups were staring at him. Neither of them knew what was going on. His brows furrowed as soon as he noticed the gargoyle.
"Damn, you are one ugly bird. What's wrong with you? It looks like you have a disease, my dude. Better get that checked out," he said while casually jumping off of the pirate ship and walking towards them.
"O-Oi, is he one of ours?" a pig-faced pirate asked the others in confusion. He was coming from their ship but none of them had seen him before. They all looked at one another shaking their heads.
"Attack him then! Kill them all!" one of them shouted, rousing the others to join in. Five of them started running towards Hao Xuan but he simply smiled in return.
The cultivator who had all but given up his life looked at Hao Xuan with wide eyes. He wanted to warn him but something caught his eye. He looked at the gargoyle right in front of him, it was shaking. It was actually shaking.
"Because of...him?" he asked himself but when he followed its line of sight, it was clear Hao Xuan was not the reason for that. The gargoyle was looking directly behind Hao Xuan, scared out of its mind.
The five pirates ran towards Hao Xuan but when they were about 10 meters away from him, all of them stopped.
"Huh? What's going on? Why did you stop? Kill him!" someone shouted from the back but there was no response.
Hao Xuan continued walking and passed the frozen pirates. And as he did, their heads separated from their bodies and fell to the ground.
"WHAT?!"
No one had seen him attack so they were all 'surprised' to say the least, yet it was not enough to deter them.
"Go! Everyone attack at once!" a creature with the head of a bear yelled. Presumably, it was one of their leaders. They all forgot about the barrier and the soldiers, running straight to Hao Xuan like mad dogs.
It was like there was only one thought in their minds right now. Hao Xuan saw over 200 pirates coming towards him and smiled.
"That's right, come closer," he murmured with a wicked grin. He looked more like an evil villain than a savior at this point.
"Looks like you guys can finally have some fun. Go nuts," Hao Xuan said while waving his hand.
Matheo who was losing consciousness looked over with his broken body and saw Hao Xuan. But to him, he didn't look like a human.
"A wolf in sheep's clothing..." he spoke weakly, and as he did, two towering silhouettes crawled out from under the runway. More than a 100 meter long serpents, one black, and one white. Their mouths stained with blood, their toothy maw even putting the gargoyle's to shame.
Yet they still weren't the reason for its shaking, it was the one standing atop the white serpent.
His green carapace reflecting the blue lightning-like a mirror. The scorpion king looked at the gargoyle with disdain.
"Kneel before your king!" his beastly voice echoed in the gargoyles head, making it take a step back.
From the black serpent jumped down three silhouettes, landing directly in front of Hao Xuan. A giant with four arms, a human with a black sword, and a Kappa.
Hao Xuan turned his head halfway and looked at the Scorpion King, "Bring me the ugly one's head. I want to see what it tastes like."
His words felt like thunder to cultivators and warriors that were waiting for their deaths behind the barrier just a few seconds ago.
