Death… And Me

Chapter 3847: Who Could Have Thought That?

Chapter 3847: Who Could Have Thought That?

A few minutes earlier, Zangeshu watched everything that happened from within the Dimensional Realm, finding it weird. ’Just... how is all of this even possible? I mean, everything looks awfully convenient to the point of being ridiculous. So, Master just pretends to have some important information, and he ends up being sent directly to the supreme commander of this fleet? This is bullshit!’

Roan agreed with him. ’You are correct. Had I been in charge, this kind of outcome would never have happened. But it is not hard to imagine. In the end, the Werdlem Empire has been inside its bubble for too long. Also, there is a very good chance the Destiny Attraction shit is playing its part here.’

’So...’ Kentucky joined, ’Does it mean Rean’s plan was actually so idiotic that it ended up working?’

’You could say so,’ Roan confirmed.

’You two, shut up!’ Rean’s voice echoed in the dimensional realm. ’I’m well aware that this plan of mine was nothing impressive, and I’m also surprised it worked at all. I was actually expecting Zotaku to simply think I’m crazy and send me away. This wasn’t even my real plan, just some bullshit I decided to try on the fly after Tanxan said this guy was truly the security boss of the central area. But lo and behold! He actually fell for it, and I’m now going to meet Kuruhei.’

’I wouldn’t say he fell for it,’ Foliana commented. ’It was better to say that he had the duty to report this situation, even if it looked idiotic. What I can’t understand is why Kuruhei bought Rean’s bullshit and asked to see him. Even if Roan is right about his judgment of experience, it is still very ridiculous that what Rean said was enough to be brought to meet Kuruhei.’

Everyone went silent. Indeed, Rean should have been sent away after everything he said. In fact, Rean’s main plan wasn’t to meet Kuruhei like this at all. Instead, he intended to capture someone here in the central area, someone with access to the bridge, and then make his way there. He wouldn’t even talk to Kuruhei. He would just get close enough to Kuruhei on the bridge and wait for Sister Orb to copy Kuruhei’s Werdlem Energy Signature. That was all.

---

Back at the present, Rean was brought before Kuruhei.

"So you are Yemmel, right?" Kuruhei asked with a smile. "So, where exactly have we met before?"

Rean scratched the back of his head. Since he never expected his idiotic plan to work, he hadn’t really thought about what would come next if it worked.

"Ahem... I told Senior Zotaku before that it most likely was just a coincidence," he started. "Now, looking at senior Kuruhei, it is obvious that you and the Kuruhei Garnil I know are not the same person. Still, would senior Kuruhei mind if I ask you a question?"

"Quite polite, aren’t we?" Kuruhei leaned forward. "But sure, go ahead. What is it you want to ask?"

Rean’s mind worked full throttle, trying to think of a question that would drag his time with Kuruhei. Finally, he thought of something. "The Kuruhei Garnil I met in the past seemed to have a connection with the Werdlem Universe. That’s why I couldn’t speak of it to Senior Zotaku and the others. Of course, it is a different matter now that I’m talking to a real Werdlem Universe expert. So, senior Kuruhei..." Rean stopped for a moment. "Do you perhaps know someone with the same name? Perhaps a Garnil Clan?"

"A connection with the Werdlem Universe?" Kuruhei pondered a bit. "I’m from the Garnil Clan, but my clan has millions of members. There is bound to be a few more Kuruhei Garnils. With just this little information, there isn’t much I can tell you. However..."

"You are from D45, right? I can guarantee no member of the Garnil Clan would ever go to such a poor Universe without a very good reason. Does that answer your question?"

Rean sighed and nodded. "Yes, senior. Yet... I feel like the reason Senior Kuruhei agreed to see me was not just because of that, right? Even I gave up trying to meet senior and was shocked to hear that senior wanted to see me instead."

Indeed, everyone there thought the same thing. In fact, even the twins’ group, who were watching from the Dimensional Realm, felt the same.

"Aren’t you a smart fella?" Kuruhei’s smile increased. "Indeed, how could someone like me waste my time with anyone who claims to know me? Everyone wants a chance to kiss my ass just because I’m from the Werdlem Universe, hoping that perhaps I could help them move there."

At the same time... ’Sister Orb, this conversation is going way further than I expected. You’d better tell me the copy is going smoothly.’

[I wish I could say that, but this guy’s Werdlem Energy Signature seemed to be constrained inside him,] Sister Orb spoke. No one expected this conversation to last this long. [But there is a little escaping from his Divine Werdlem Stone that I can use. I just need you to buy more time.]

’Sure enough, things couldn’t possibly be that simple,’ Rean thought to himself.

Then, he made an overly exaggerated display with his body before speaking. "In any case, I’m under your orders, Senior Kuruhei. Know that I, Yemmel Klonfan, would cross a sea of fire and climb a mountain of swords if necessary. For someone like me to ever meet a Werdlem Universe Expert is already a huge honor, an honor that I shall carry until the end of time. It truly..."

Everyone’s mouths twitched. The amount of flattering and ass kissing Rean was doing right now made them cringe. Even if you want to receive favour from Kuruhei, surely that was way too much, right? Wasn’t he feeling any shame at all? Even worse, it looked as if there was no end to all that bullshit.

Kuruhei finally lost his patience a minute later. "Alright, enough with that. Since you said you would do anything for me, I have the perfect task for you. The Umbras are constantly trying to take over the bodies of our allies; it seems to be related to the fact that they were born from the living beings’ emotions. Well, I wish to see what happens if one succeeds in front of me. So, your mission is to not fight and let an Umbra take over. That’s all."

Rean was taken aback. That looked like a horrible request. Truth be told, he wasn’t afraid. An Umbra wouldn’t be able to take his body because the Celestial Soul System would protect his soul. Not only that, but the system would literally kill any Umbra who tried such a thing.

Still, that sure was an unusual request. ’This guy must be bored...’ That was the only thing Rean could think of... and he was right.

"Ahem..." Rean pretended to be hesitating. "Do I really..."

"It’s either that, or death for wasting my time. Which one do you choose?" Kuruhei cut in, not giving Rean any time to consider.

"Y-Yes... I accept." Rean could only go with the flow. The Umbra would simply fail, and Rean could just give some bullshit excuse after the outcome.

Yet, around an hour later, when a confined Umbra was brought to the bridge, Rean almost cried. ’Oh, for fuck’s sake!’

Right in front of him was none other than Xian!
