Chapter 3828: Skyveil City

Chapter 3828: Skyveil City

Ming Xiaolong led Ming Xiaochou over, and she stared at the bamboo slip. “I didn’t expect it to be quite so small.”

She then glanced at Lu Yin, who was standing some distance away, and whispered, “Seventh Sister, that guy just destroyed the Autumnspring Slip without any hesitation. Just how strong do you think he really is?”

Lu Siyu rolled her eyes. “How should I know? All I know is that we still have five requests.”

“What requests?” Ming Xiaochou asked curiously.

Ming Xiaolong shoved her brother back. “Back off! This is girl talk. It’s none of your business.”

Ming Xiaochou rolled his eyes as the two girls started to whisper to each other.

The old man from the Skyward Gate’s Luo family approached Lu Yin and offered a slow bow. “I am Luo Nanshan. I beg your forgiveness, Mister Lu, for offending you in the past.”

Lu Yin looked at the old man. “Are you Luo Ning’s father?”

“Yes.”

When trying to pass through the Skyward Gate, Lu Yin had heard Luo Ning call this old man “father.”

“You look old enough.”

Luo Nanshan smiled. “You flatter me, Mister Lu. My Luo family deeply regrets our last interaction. Please, forgive us.”

For someone so important within the Skyward Gate’s Luo family to beg for forgiveness twice was exceptionally demeaning.

Lu Yin held no goodwill toward the Luo family, but Luo Nanshan seemed to understand how to behave. On top of that, the Luo family had not been the one to push Lu Yin out of the Skyward Gate. They had simply delayed him slightly, which had allowed Granny Ya to act.

“What do you want from me?” Lu Yin asked, despite already knowing the answer.

Luo Nanshan asked, “May I ask how my son is doing?”

Lu Yin nodded. “He’s alive.”

Luo Nanshan’s heart froze. “And his cultivation?”

Lu Yin praised the man, “Your son has quite the spine. He chose to entrust his life to me instead of accepting a Seed Transfusion.”

Luo Nanshan was finally able to completely relax, and his expression eased noticeably. He took a step back and bowed low. “Please tell us what price my Luo family must pay for you to release my son. If he has offended you in any way, please tell us plainly. My Luo family will take full responsibility for whatever he has done.”

The old man was truly scared. If he had not witnessed the battle at Ridgeplain, he would have never considered acting so humbly before Lu Yin.

The annihilation of the Autumnspring Slip had been a wake-up call for Luo Nanshan. Lu Yin was a ruthless man who could not be offended. Steal from him? It could not even be considered. The Luo family had been incapable of defeating even the Autumnspring Slip, let alone Lu Yin.

Despite needing to cast aside his dignity, Luo Ning was far too important to the Luo family. Additionally, Luo Nanshan knew that his attitude towards Lu Yin was crucial to the Luo family. He did not want his family to be wiped out as well.

Lu Yin chuckled. “You didn’t have this sort of attitude when you stopped me at the Skyward Gate.”

Luo Nanshan’s voice grew bitter. “I was deceived by some despicable people. Once again, I apologize, sir.”

As he spoke, the old man bowed for the third time.

For a family as powerful and famous as the Luo family to demean themselves in such a manner, many would have been shocked. However, no one present thought anything of Luo Nanshan’s behavior. Despite fighting on his own in Ridgeplain, Lu Yin had been more terrifying than an entire sect. In fact, he was more terrifying precisely because he was alone.

There were some powerful people who were shackled by their relationships, but Lu Yin was different. Since he was from the lower three megaverses, he had no ties in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Nothing that he did would be surprising. On top of that, he had already proven that he was completely ruthless. Ridgeplain was dyed red from blood that he had shed. How could the Luo family not fear such a man?

By working together, a powerful organization could crush an independent cultivator. However, if such a person could survive such an attack, they would become a far greater threat than any faction.

Lu Yin stared at Luo Nanshan. “Your attitude’s not bad. Let me ask you something.”

“Please do.”

“Where is Cheng Gong?”

Luo Nanshan replied, “Have you heard of Skyveil City?”

“No.”

Luo Nanshan continued to say, “Skyveil City is home to the Skyveil Vein, a relic from the Skyveil Megaverse. That megaverse’s inhabitants were unique in that they transformed the art of lockbreaking into a method that they called carving. After that megaverse was destroyed, it became difficult for people to master that technique. A Greater Sancte removed a section of the Skyveil Megaverse and merged it into the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. That is what the Skyveil Vein actually is.

“The Skyveil City was built upon the Skyveil Vein, and that is also where Cheng Gong is at the moment.”

Lu Yin’s eyes flickered as he recalled the battle at the Umbral Deep. At that time, he had been ambushed by Cheng Gong, and the man had used sourcebox arrays in a unique manner. This piece of information explained that. Lu Yin had always felt that something was off about Cheng Gong’s method of using sourcebox arrays, and he had wanted to understand it. So it’s called "carving"? The name itself evokes an art form; how appropriate.

Carving... Yes, it fits quite well.

Luo Nanshan continued by giving a warning. “If you intend to cause trouble for him, sir, you should be careful of the Cheng family. The Skyveil City is currently ruled by three powerful clans: the Yu family, the Cheng family, and the Jue family. These three have inherited the majority of the Skyveil Vein, and they might be able to restore the glory of the Skyveil Megaverse’s lockbreaking mastery. That is why the three families have drawn the attention of the Greater Sancti. Please consider this before doing anything.”

Lu Yin recalled Cheng Gong’s ability to carve a sourcebox’s danger field. It was not impossible for such a method to draw the attention of a Greater Sancte. Lu Yin had certainly never forgotten it, despite only ever being attacked by Cheng Gong once. Lu Yin would never forget that incident.

“The glory of the Skyveil Megaverse?”

Luo Nanshan nodded, clearly excited. “The Skyveil Megaverse was among the most difficult foreign megaverses for our Nine Odysseys Megaverse to destroy. It took five Night Pillars, as well as the personal intervention of a Greater Sancte, to take it down. Without that Greater Sancte, those five Night Pillars would have been destroyed during the invasion. That is why the Skyveil Vein has always captured people’s attention. Cultivators who manage to comprehend the Skyveil Megaverse’s spirit treasure formations enjoy a high status in our megaverse, especially someone like Cheng Gong, who is referred to as a Carver. Nominally, he is even under the patronage of a Greater Sancte.

“That’s why I showed Cheng Gong a bit of face back then. Even though you presented a token to pass through the Skyward Gate, I still needed to inspect it.”

Lu Yin asked, “Where is the Skyveil City?”

“In the West Domain. It’s quite far from here. Cheng Gong left the Skyward Gate as soon as you were forced out.”

“By the way, what happened to that Immortal monster?” Lu Yin asked. He had intended to ask before this, but settling things with the Autumnspring Slip had taken priority.

A shiver ran through the old man as he looked at Lu Yin. “A Greater Sancte intervened, forcing the beast to retreat. We don’t know where it went afterwards.”

“Which Greater Sancte was it?” Lu Yin asked.

Luo Nanshan smiled wryly. “That I don’t know. All I know is that a Greater Sancte took action.”

Lu Yin nodded. He suspected that it must have been Greater Sancte Green Lotus who had intervened. There was no other explanation for how Lu Yin had ended up in the Sea of Karma. It was impossible for the Morrow Behemoth to have thrown him there, unless he had severely underestimated the creature’s strength.

The Skyveil City... the Yu family, the Cheng family, and the Jue family. That Yu family must be the Wisdom Domain’s true master.

The Wisdom Domain had its origins in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and Lu Yin had just discovered what it was.

However, the sourcebox arrays that the Wisdom Domain had developed were much different from how Cheng Gong had carved a sourcebox’s danger zone. Was this because of differing insights? If that was the case, then did the Jue family have an even more incredible application of sourceboxes?

Lu Yin was already the best Array Grandmaster in the lower three megaverses. Naturally, he was quite curious about the Skyveil City. There was no way he would miss visiting that place.

For the time being...

Luo Nanshan answered every question that Lu Yin put forward, maintaining such a respectful attitude that even Lu Yin grew too embarrassed to continue any further.

For that reason, he soon released Luo Ning.

As soon as Luo Ning appeared, he felt as though the world was spinning around him. The scenery around him had changed too abruptly. He had been in a Zenith Mountain for so long that the sudden change caught him off guard.

“Little Ning!” Luo Nanshan called out emotionally.

Luo Ning turned around, and as soon as he saw Luo Nanshan, the younger man grew even more emotional. “Father!”

Seeing that Luo Ning was safe and that his cultivation was unchanged allowed Luo Nanshan to finally let out a genuine sigh of relief. He turned and bowed low to Lu Yin. “Thank you, sir, for releasing my son. Thank you!”

Luo Ning, being quick-witted, immediately offered his own thanks as well.

Many people nearby immediately recognized Luo Ning, and they were dumbfounded by the sight. Who could have imagined that Lu Yin had also captured Luo Ning?

They had just watched him defeat Qian Shu just moments earlier, and now, they were seeing that he had also captured Luo Ning. What was going on? Only eight geniuses could sleep in the Scion Spire, so how had Lu Yin gotten ahold of two of them?

Even Qing Yun was caught off guard as she watched from afar.

Lu Siyu and Ming Xiaolong exchanged glances. Isn’t he from the lower three megaverses? When did he capture Luo Ning?

Judging by the gratitude that Luo Nanshan was expressing, it was clear that the old man had known about the matter for some time. The two women remembered that there had been a grudge between Qian Shu and Lu Yin. Clearly, there was some connection to the lower three megaverses.

Luo Nanshan and Luo Ning both thanked Lu Yin, but he quickly stopped them. “Don’t be too quick to thank me. I never said that I’m releasing him.”

Luo Ning instantly panicked, and he glanced at his father with eyes blazing with cold bloodlust. After all, he was back in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse...

Luo Nanshan was startled by his son’s reaction, and he grew terrified that Lu Yin might have noticed the spark of killing intent in Luo Ning’s eyes. The old man sternly barked, “You insolent son! What have you done to offend this man? Apologize at once!

“The Autumnspring Slip offended him and never even got a chance to apologize before being destroyed. What are you waiting for?”

Luo Ning was stunned. “The Autumnspring Slip? Wait, where’s that bastard Qian Shu? He’s the one-”

Abruptly, the young man froze and glanced around. He saw the bloodstained earth and the sky that was still red from the mist of blood that had not yet fully dispersed. He turned to look in another direction. Isn’t that the Autumnspring Slip? Why is it split in two? And those people... Isn’t that Master Yi Bai? And the Autumnspring Slip’s disciples?

Luo Ning’s head swam as Luo Nanshan’s words rang in his ears.

The Autumnspring Slip was destroyed. The Autumnspring Slip was destroyed. How is that even possible?

Luo Ning had already known that Lu Yin was strong, but he could not possibly be powerful enough to destroy the Autumnspring Slip alone, right?

While Luo Ning had been captured by Lu Yin, the two had only interacted on three occasions. The first had been atop the cliff in Willbound Spire, the second time had been when Lu Yin had spoken with Chao Yi, and the final incident had been at the Skyward Gate when Lu Yin had been pushed out.

None of those interactions had exposed Lu Yin’s true strength.

If Luo Ning had known that Lu Yin had succeeded in fleeing to the Spirit Nidus despite being pursued by an Immortal beast, and even taken Boundless away, he would have looked at Lu Yin in an entirely different light.

Unfortunately, the young man was ignorant of those matters.

At the moment, the sight of a blood soaked Ridgeplain and a destroyed the Autumnspring Slip left Luo Ning dazed. He could not process what he was seeing.

Luo Nanshan scolded his son again. “Insolent child! Apologize right now!”

Luo Ning hurriedly bowed to Lu Yin. “Please forgive me, sir. In my ignorance, I have offended you in the past. I await your punishment.”

Lu Yin smirked as he looked at Luo Ning. He had indeed noticed the cold glint that had appeared in Luo Ning’s eyes, but he had also found it understandable. Upon being released within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and seeing someone from the Luo family, how could Luo Ning allow himself to be recaptured? From his perspective, it was questionable if Lu Yin could even survive in the megaverse.

All that could be said was that Lu Yin had improved too quickly.

If he still had the same level of strength as when he had first encountered Luo Ning, Lu Yin would not have had the confidence to play games with the Luo family in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

In the past, Lu Yin had not even been a match for the High Seraph. The Autumnspring Slip could have easily overpowered him, and the Luo family would not have feared him at all.

Strength was the foundation of all of Lu Yin’s confidence.
