Chapter 4649: First Divergent Kill
Davis watched in bewilderment as the figure in the black robes transformed into an infinite number of flesh chunks.
The sound of flesh hitting the ground made him jolt as he turned to look at the jade green fan that radiated a black miasma. At that moment, his eyes narrowed, and terrifying sounds pierced through his soul sea.
The horrifying sounds weren’t shrieks or roars, but layered whispers. The voices overlapped, muttering incomprehensible chants that tugged at the edges of his consciousness.
His body felt strangely heavy, his limbs sluggish, as though some unseen weight pressed him down. It wasn’t pain, but rather a suffocating suppression, a pressure that threatened to strip him of his composure.
Davis’s frown grew deeper. His soul sea rippled with agitation, the whispers bouncing against its surface, breaking the calm of the lake. He realized it wasn’t some kind of attack but a response to his usage of the cursed artifact.
Holding the jade-green fan, Davis’s lips curled, “Is this the corruption from the cursed artifact that everyone was scared of?”
Davis more or less heard the many whispers when this item was auctioned.
He knew this item whispered to susceptible lifeforms and made them use it, spreading its corruption. He guessed that the black threads that it spread were precisely for this matter. By spreading those threads, it contaminated their thoughts, tempting them to use it even though it was supposed to give off a horrifying aura.
Davis couldn’t feel this so-called horrifying aura. He felt that it was sinister alright, but it wasn’t any worse than the Vile Enchanter. But now, this horrifying aura slightly grew on him after he used it, making him probe it further with his soul sense.
With a harrumph, he forcefully penetrated its layer of miasma and tried to investigate its spirituality.
Despite facing a Peak-Level Empyrean Grade Cursed Artifact, he stood firm, certain that his soul would not falter before its sinister might.
At that moment, Davis caught something in his vision.
The chunks of flesh on the ground twitched as though they were going to awaken. The black miasma grew thicker, and the whispers grew louder, forming faint whispers.
“Accept… submit… wield…” The voice was as airy as it was creepy.
Davis’s gaze turned cold as his soul deciphered the whisper. It even caused him to fall into a horrifying illusion as he watched the pile of flesh revive with countless eyes.
He willed his soul into clarity, causing everything in front of him to turn to normal.
The pile of flesh stayed on the ground. The presumed corpse of the Wind Divergent didn’t revive, nor did it turn into a monster.
Davis raised his hand and tugged, collecting the dead’s soul essence.
He would know who it was once he read through their memories. But for now, he retracted his gaze back to the jade-green fan, knowing not to underestimate it because, along with this strange chant, he also had information directly inscribed into his soul.
“So it’s called the Malevolent Flesh Erasure Fan…”
Davis scoffed. He didn’t need to know that recognize that it could slice and dice flesh within a second and cause even energies to disappear as though they weren’t unleashed.
But after scoffing, his expression turned solemn.
He learned that the act of waving it would cause energy to be extinguished and lifeforms to be shredded into pieces as long as they were only nine levels higher than the cursed artifact. In other words, this artifact possessed a prowess that was nine levels higher, like a supreme genius, and it might even wound an Early Exalt Stage cultivator as long as they could be caught off guard.
It was simply horrifying.
This detail alone made Davis go silent. But the negative effects- the corruption it caused was simply frightening.
Having it on hand will cause one to go mad from the whispers eventually.
Using it three times will cause the user to be shredded like the targets.
Davis really wanted to see if he would be shredded if he used it two more times. He wanted to see if it could kill his undying soul, making him scoff. However, he still didn’t take it lightly. He took out a jade container and placed it inside, inscribing it with a sealing rune.
The whispers faded, and his senses were back to normal rather quickly.
This made Davis wonder if the rate of corruption was slower for Divergents. Regardless, he pulled out the dead person’s soul essence and began to absorb it, going through the memories on the edge, which were the recent memories.
‘Kago Senkeel. A man, a Divergent from the Nine-Headed Hydra Galaxy who survived the onslaught of Hydra Heaven’s Warriors with his Ancient Storm Physique, a storm-attributed physique that brings storms from the core of burning calamitous astral stars… what…?’
Davis momentarily turned confused as this was what Kago Senkeel thought of his physique. He probed further and actually found out that he was an Immortal Emperor with Astral Cultivation as a supplementary cultivation.
While probing deeper, Davis discovered the information that was previously unknown to him, even though he wanted to find out since his daughter with Iesha, Xiesha Davis, had garnered the favor of the Eternal Winter Star.
Neither Davis nor Myria knew about Astral Stars, so they couldn’t tell where the Eternal Winter Star was from. Levi Starchild’s account wasn’t that detailed since he was also new to practicing Astral Cultivation as a form of supplementary cultivation.
But now, Davis was able to guess.
He inwardly sighed, wanting to return and tell this to his wives.
*Whoosh!~*
At this moment, Fairy Thunderblaze appeared in the air.
She maintained a careful distance, making Davis blink before he saw that her eyes were wide in shock and fear. She had likely seen his move from the shadows.
“That cursed artifact… it made that Divergent die without even being able to fight back… You frowned… are you still you…?”
Davis chuckled, “Come closer. I promise I won’t swing the fan at you…”
His lips curled into a teasing smile.
“Don’t play.” Fairy Thunderblaze’s voice was solemn, “I heard cursed artifacts are horrifying, and even you might not be able to go against their corrosion.”
“Heh~” Fallen Heaven merely scoffed.
With it residing inside Davis’s soul sea, even if he were to lose against the whispers, did he need to be afraid?
