Chapter 4573: False Dawn Harbinger
Davis and the others arrived before the False Dawn Harbinger’s territory.
They had just climbed a mountain and looked at the basin that rolled over into plain flatlands. There was a valley straight ahead, and to the left side, the soil scorched in a strange silver light. There were dunes blocking their sight over certain locations.
However, even while being fifty thousand kilometers away, they could see it with their naked eye.
It was a twenty-thousand-meter-tall giant.
This twenty-thousand-meter giant stood unmoving in the middle of the flatlands, its form like a blasphemous god that had descended to judge all beings. Four radiant wings unfurled from its back, each feather glowing like a shard of the first sunrise. The light pouring from its body was not warm. It rather felt suffocating.
Just a single glance made their souls quiver, as though they were gazing upon the very principle of destruction masked as a divine being.
’The False Dawn Harbinger...’ Everyone more or less took a deep breath.
A single wave of its light-attributed flames was enough to extinguish them all. They couldn’t help but stare at it with trepidation in their hearts.
Its face was indistinct, shrouded in silver flames that constantly shifted, making it look like an eternal dawn that never reached noon. Every flare of its aura distorted the sky and cracked the earth, causing the plains to warp into dunes and melt into rivers of silver ash.
Davis narrowed his eyes.
Even from fifty thousand kilometers away, its pressure brushed against them like the weight of mountains. His senses screamed that if they were even a fraction closer without concealment, it would gaze at them, and that would be the end.
"Unholy heavens..." Tia muttered, her usual carefree tone reduced to a whispered as she transmitted to Nadia, "It’s just... standing there."
"No," Myria corrected grimly as she had one hand on Nadia, who was on her shoulder, "It’s listening. The notes said its awareness spreads across forty to fifty thousand kilometers, a sphere of soul perception. That means we are standing at the absolute edge of its perception right now. One wrong move, one fluctuation, and it will know."
A chill swept through the group. Even Fairy Thunderblaze’s playful gaze hardened, her eyes narrowing like drawn blades.
"Davis," Fairy Thunderblaze also touched Nadia, "We either bait it or we wait. Both choices are perilous."
Davis nodded.
He took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on the towering silhouette radiating dawn-like flames that scorched the air itself. To that in this continent was extremely hard. The very light it emitted seemed to erase shadows, and in the distance, various weaker spirits could be seen writhing before collapsing into silver dust, their souls devoured by invisible fire.
It seemed the False Dawn Harbinger was capable of baiting similar attributed spirits to it to devour them. The terrifying thing was that by the time the spirits noticed, they were already in its range.
"We can’t wait," Davis finally said through his beast pact with Nadia, voice steady, "The longer we stay, the greater the chance that other calamities will converge on this place due to our divergence. We need to bait it, but carefully. I’ll go."
His words fell like a verdict, imposing and final, as though he didn’t want to hear ’otherwise’ now.
Tia and Isabella’s gaze shook.
Everyone stiffened, knowing what it meant: Davis had to draw the False Dawn Harbinger away, surviving its pursuit for two hours while the rest crossed the valley.
Fairy Thunderblaze secretly looked at him in shock.
The thought alone made the soul tremble. How was he not afraid?
If he had a family to protect, wasn’t it all the more necessary that he force her to take this role? She knew he was capable of threatening her. What could she do against it other than take revenge later?
She couldn’t understand.
"Can... can’t we use the prisoners?" Tia squeaked.
"No, they’ll die easily before they can even leave this basin. If the False Dawn Harbinger is sentient and capable of exchanging words, then they could even reveal our locations for revenge. We can’t risk it..." Davis argued, "My avatar isn’t good either. It’ll get caught easily, and Nadia’s doppelganger isn’t a good match... this Realm Calamity can probably see through souls..."
The False Dawn Harbinger shifted ever so slightly, one of its wings stretching wide. A ripple of silver light rolled across the land, burning the tops of mountains into nothingness. It appeared to do it for no reason, and even without looking their way, its existence alone made the world hold its breath at such a close range.
Davis turned to look back, "As soon as I make it leave this basin, start crossing the land. Watch out for the molten lakes. Cross the basin safely and head north. I have my ways to find you all, so don’t worry. If I don’t make it back within three days, continue the journey without me."
He dropped some words through the beast pact and left decisively.
Isabella and Tia got down from Nadia, wanting to stop him, but in the end, they could only drop their hands.
"Don’t worry. We can’t die." Myria uttered, "The False Dawn Harbinger can forget about devouring him. It can try and absorb most of his essence, but it will never fully succeed. As long as a strand exists, I can revive him through my revival technique."
"..."
Isabella and Tia already knew this information. They knew this, but still, the karmic burden from reviving Davis would doom Myria. Even Davis’s own tribulation would get much stronger, so this plan wasn’t anything great.
Davis traversed across the edge of the mountains. He turned to look at the False Dawn Harbinger as he rushed, jumping across rocky terrain and climbing over the hills using his bare hands.
He circled around, heading to the western side of the basin, where there was a pathway out.
He needed to get there and then attract the False Dawn Harbinger.
It took him over twenty minutes to get there, even while he rushed to get there while traversing the rough terrain. Once he was there, he looked over to the other side and saw the huge crevice that separated this basin from the mainland.
This was a floating island in and of itself. That was why the only way to cross this area was to wait for the False Dawn Harbinger to leave.
He reached out his hand, wondering if he could fly away, but the moment his hand reached out, a strong force of attraction started pulling him down. He felt like he could not resist this force if he wasn’t an Exalt, which left-
’Only that land bridge...’
Davis looked at that narrow path that led out of the valley from the western side of the basin. That was his only escape route once he descended and attracted the False Dawn Harbinger, but who knows what lied ahead?
He looked into the distance, trying to spot a few things that could help him, but it was completely barren, making his eyes squint.
Shaking his head, he didn’t feel that his chances of making it out alive were any good. It was less than ten percent from a quick calculation.
Davis turned to look at the False Dawn Harbinger, wondering if Fallen Heaven would be any useful against such a powerful opponent. He was very aware that if he used it against what he wasn’t supposed to survive against, the divergence created would be reflected at a greater magnitude.
Even if nothing ends up happening to him or his family, he feared the dimensional pathways closing.
However, he moved- it wasn’t going to be an easy decision to make.
Taking a deep breath, he jumped towards the basin and slid down the rocky terrain, kicking up a storm of dust.
The False Dawn Harbinger had its eyes elsewhere to the northwestern side, but as the dust storm kicked up, it finally noticed.
Turning to look, it locked gazes with a small human. It blinked ever so lightly, seemingly surprised to find an ant similar to the many it devoured before. Then, without a word, its body lifted into the air as its four giant light wings unfurled.
It moved like a mirage, leaving afterimages in its wake.
Needless to say, Davis ran towards the valley and shot away like a lightning bolt using the fastest speed he could muster. His figure was like in a black-golden vortex, each spin propelling him forward faster and faster.
The False Dawn Harbinger’s eyes gleamed as though it was shocked.
Then it also picked up speed!
"...!"
Isabella and the others watched the False Dawn Harbinger leave the basin within minutes, chasing Davis to eliminate him!
