Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 200 - 190: Picking Them Off One by One

Chapter 200: Chapter 190: Picking Them Off One by One

They arrived at the foot of the mountain. The vine hadn’t been pulled up; it was hanging there, swaying in the wind.

Unlike Abu, who only had one of these vines.

Tang Mo lifted her eyes and looked up. There were many such vines hanging on the mountain, and every single one looked the same as Abu’s.

Tang Mo had long been aware that the tribe had meticulously prepared for this ascent.

And Abu was just one part of their elaborate plan.

’Perhaps they planned to use them again on the way down and were too lazy to pull them up.’

This made things much more convenient for Tang Mo and her group.

There were eleven of them in total, including Tang Mo. Without a word, they grabbed the vines and began to climb. They scaled the cliff face as if it were level ground, not even stopping at the midway resting cave, and reached the summit in one go.

It was no joke. Their usual ’Devil’ training hadn’t been for nothing. Before the apocalypse, most of them had been special forces soldiers, a few had practiced martial arts since they were children, and a handful had relied on other special skills.

Every one of them had an incredibly solid foundation; a little climbing like this was nothing.

Only after they reached the summit and found their footing did they see the scene. Blood covered the ground, the clear aftermath of a great battle. The sight was incredibly grim.

Tang Mo did a quick count. There were six gorilla corpses in total.

The six gorillas were the very ones that usually guarded the summit. Tang Mo had seen several of them before, including the leader.

Their abdomens had been completely sliced open with some sharp weapon. They couldn’t be any more dead.

Next to the gorilla carcasses lay a few human bodies.

"This can’t be right. Six gorillas are dead, but only a few humans? Judging by their size and muscle, each of these gorillas should have been able to take on five men."

The group couldn’t understand how the six gorillas had been dealt with so easily. It defied all logic.

The price the humans paid was far less than what it should have been.

Tang Mo bent down and got close to the largest gorilla’s corpse. She pried open its mouth, fanned the air with her hand, and sniffed.

’No scent of rosemary.’

’It seems the humans had another trump card.’

In truth, the tribal chief had prepared rosemary, but he hadn’t anticipated that the guard gorillas, having been tricked once before, would refuse to eat anything on the summit.

And since the wind couldn’t carry the scent of the rosemary all the way up, they had no choice but to play their trump card early.

Tang Mo didn’t get up right away. Instead, she carefully examined each of the gorilla corpses.

After a long inspection, she began to understand how the tribe had managed to kill so many gorillas so easily, and at such a low cost.

’So that’s how they did it.’

"Quick, let’s go inside!"

Tang Mo got up and started running towards the cave where Ah Mao lived.

’These humans are more cunning than I imagined. Da Hua and Xiao Hua are in danger.’

Tang Mo ran in front, with a group of men following behind her.

They ran until they reached two caves not far from the summit—the place where Ah Mao and his mate, along with Da Hua, lived.

Around a hundred people were gathered in front of the caves.

Dozens of people were crammed inside one of the caves, while the rest, unable to fit, crowded around the entrance.

It didn’t look like they were fighting; they seemed to be negotiating something.

And contrary to what Tang Mo expected, the cave they were focused on wasn’t Ah Mao’s, but Da Hua’s.

’Why Da Hua’s cave?’

Tang Mo recalled how, the last time Abu visited, he hadn’t wanted to wander the mountain. Instead, he had stayed by himself in Da Hua’s cave the entire time. A suspicion began to form in her mind.

The tribesmen held wooden clubs wrapped in thorny vines. They stood outside the cave, glaring menacingly, just waiting for their chief’s order to attack.

"Let’s take out the ones on the outside first. Keep it quiet. If we don’t alert the people inside, we might get to see a good show."

Tang Mo said to the person beside her.

’She’d waited so long for this ’show.’ The thought of not seeing it for herself was making her antsy.’

Everyone gave a silent signal of acknowledgment.

There were eleven of them, all in peak physical condition and fully equipped. Dealing with a few dozen tribesmen would be a piece of cake.

The group put away their guns, drew their melee weapons, and rushed into the crowd.

Coming from behind, a quick twist of the jaw with both hands, and a man fell silently to the ground.

Anyone who reacted and tried to cry out was met with a blade to the carotid artery, ensuring not a single sound escaped their lips.

The blade, pulled free from one man’s artery, was immediately thrust into the vitals of the next.

And so, nine figures moved through the ranks like Grim Reapers, harvesting Life at maximum speed.

But why only nine people?

Because, naturally, Qin Ling and Tang Mo weren’t taking part.

The two of them stood back, watching their team’s ’performance’ with great interest.

"Your men are very well-trained."

Their movements were fluid and efficient, with no wasted motion. Tang Mo watched, looking thoughtful.

"Want me to help train your people in the future?"

That was Qin Ling for you; he could read the meaning behind even her slightest thoughtful glance.

Pleased that Qin Ling was so perceptive, Tang Mo rewarded him with a small, affectionate gesture.

The men doing the dirty work caught the exchange out of the corners of their eyes. The memory of all the torment they’d endured from the couple’s PDA over the past few days came rushing back, and their hands moved with even greater efficiency.

AAAAHHH!!! JUST DIE ALREADY!

In less than ten minutes, all the tribesmen on the perimeter were on the ground.

The twenty or so people inside the cave were likely the tribe’s most powerful members and the chief’s trusted confidants. They stood deep within the cave, completely focused on whatever they were listening to, oblivious to the commotion outside.

This mountain was home to an entire troop of gorillas, but gorillas were a species that valued bloodlines and emotion above all else. Now, they had the leader’s entire family as hostages.

The rest of the troop had obediently been driven back into their caves, not daring to take a single step outside.

If they took even one step out, their leader’s entire family would be killed before their very eyes.

The gorillas might have gained sentience in the apocalypse, but most of them still had the intelligence of children. They couldn’t devise complex plots, which made them ridiculously easy to manipulate.

The tribal chief had his plan all worked out. Now, he would go and get his hands on the treasure.

Once he had it, he would take his time and go from cave to cave, killing the gorillas one by one.

And finally, he would deal with the gorilla leader.

By taking them down one by one, he would save himself a lot of effort. Low-intelligence animals really were simple-minded.
