The Abandoned Daughter's Second Chance

Chapter 131 - 121: Tang Yaxuan

Chapter 131: Chapter 121: Tang Yaxuan

Growing up, Tang Yaxuan had always been her parents’ darling, a daughter who brought them endless comfort, but she was by no means a clueless little fool.

During a period when her parents were temporarily separated for work, she lived with her mother in a small rural school. It was poor, dirty, and smelly. She was very young back then and would often see her mother cover her face and break down in tears. She would cling to her mother, offering comfort and support. The two of them, mother and daughter, relied on each other to get through those difficult days.

Because her younger brother had been taken away by people sent from their grandmother in Beijing right after he was born, her mother treated her as her lifeline. If Tang Yaxuan had so much as a fever or a headache, her mother would immediately send for her father. Her father would always come rushing back, sparing no effort no matter how arduous the journey of hundreds of miles.

Her father truly loved her. Tang Yaxuan could feel it in her bones and had never once doubted it.

That was why every time she heard those gossiping busybodies say she didn’t look like her father and probably wasn’t his biological daughter, she wanted to rip them to shreds!

’Who the hell did they think they were? How dare they have designs on her father?’

From the small rural school to the township middle school, and later in the county and the region, there were always so many shameless women hovering around her mother, finding all sorts of excuses and trying every trick in the book to seduce her father!

Tang Yaxuan was her mother’s little helper. In places her mother couldn’t see or be on guard, she would protect her father. That was why her mother doted on her so completely and couldn’t bear to part with her!

Her little aunt had actually doted on her as well. During the time Tang Yaxuan lived with her, her aunt would dress her up beautifully and teach her many things a proper young lady should know. Things like how to apply makeup, how to be cunning, how to use one’s strengths to cleverly conceal one’s flaws, and how to handle people and situations. ’Always hold something back, and never show your whole heart,’ she’d say. ’Even with an enemy, you can speak to them with a smile, because that will lower their guard against you... Never let anyone know what you’re truly thinking. That is the most important thing of all!’

Under her little aunt’s tutelage, Tang Yaxuan consistently came out on top in disputes with her peers. Even some adults were no match for her.

But there was one thing about her little aunt that wasn’t good. She was always questioning her. More than once, she’d pinched Tang Yaxuan’s small chin, studying her face for a long time before frowning and saying, "There’s definitely been a mistake! Neither the Tang family nor the Wu Family has ever produced someone with such a round face, or such ugly eyes! Sweetie, you can’t possibly be my sister and brother-in-law’s biological child! If you don’t believe me, go look in a mirror. What part of you resembles them at all? Why don’t you go ask your mom and dad if you were switched at birth in the hospital?"

Tang Yaxuan was furious and decided to sever ties with her little aunt. She deliberately pretended not to see her aunt’s intentions, allowing her an opportunity to get close to her father. Only at the critical moment did she run and drag her mother back home. In the end, her little aunt was thrown out by her mother!

Her little aunt got what she deserved, but fate, it seemed, would not spare her either!

Tang Yaxuan was filled with grief and resentment. ’What did I do wrong? Why does the world want to separate me from my beloved mother and father?’

When Mo Guoqiang and Liu Fengying appeared before her, pointing to the birthmark on her body and explaining that the two of them were her biological parents, she took one look at Liu Fengying’s face, at those eyes, and silently accepted the truth without a second thought.

Only her mother and father knew about her purplish birthmark. It was shaped like a butterfly, and all three of them had thought it was beautiful and loved it. But now, it had become a mark of shame. No matter how she looked at it, it was hideous. If she could, she would rather just cut that piece of skin right off!

Because Liu Fengying had an even larger one in the exact same spot!

Tang Yaxuan was falling apart inside, but she told herself she had to be strong. She remembered her little aunt’s words: ’Hide. Any ugliness can be hidden away!’

She knew that as a child, she couldn’t possibly hide something this big all by herself. Besides, there was another child out there—her greatest threat. She never wanted to see that child, and she would absolutely not allow her to appear before her mother and father!

She needed help. So, she chose to be compliant and readily accepted Mo Guoqiang and Liu Fengying’s attempts to get close to her.

But she had never, ever expected that something would go wrong, and her mother and father would find out about it!

She was lucky. Her mother and father didn’t abandon her. For her sake, they rejected the other child. They even worked together with her to hide the secret, not even letting her younger brother know the truth!

Which meant the Tang Family in Beijing would be even less likely to find out!

Tang Yaxuan yearned for Beijing—the bustling capital, a life of affluence, a world of high-society figures. She had visited twice and made several friends, each from a powerful and influential family. They were elegant, noble, and carried themselves with an extraordinary air. This was the life she wanted. The life that *should* be hers!

Her grandfather and grandmother were a bit indifferent toward her, not like how they treated Hao Hao, but it didn’t really matter. As long as she was well-behaved, her grandfather would always smile at her. Her grandmother would survey her with a critical eye and had never so much as stroked her hair or held her hand, but she gave her many expensive and magnificent gifts. And if anyone else uttered the slightest criticism of her, they would be immediately berated by her grandmother!

She was the eldest legitimate granddaughter of the Tang family; not the slightest disrespect or offense would be tolerated!

As for the handsome and elegant Brother Shaojun, he was like her guardian angel, always by her side, protecting and taking care of her!

’She had to thank the heavens for their favor, and of course, she also had to thank her biological parents for their full support. As long as they kept that other child suppressed for her, allowing her to be her mother and father’s daughter in peace, she would eventually repay them...’

The small alarm clock on her nightstand suddenly blared. Tang Yaxuan shot up, rushed over to silence it, and let out a soft breath. She walked to the mirror and looked at her reflection, giving the sweet-looking girl in the light pink wool dress a gentle smile before turning to leave the room.

Even a child genius couldn’t be left completely to his own devices. If no one reminded and supervised him, Tang Haocheng would sit with a thick book in his hands and read straight through till dawn!

Tonight, their mother, Wu Xiaowen, didn’t have time to look after him, so the duty fell to Tang Yaxuan.

The master bedroom door was shut tight. On the living room table sat two glasses of steaming milk. The housekeeper had prepared the milk and already left; usually, when their father was home, their mother let the housekeeper go back to her own place for the night.

Tang Yaxuan picked up the milk, walked to Tang Haocheng’s room, and knocked lightly on the door. After hearing a response, she opened it and went inside.
