The clouds continued to spread, quickly obscuring a large area of sight. They covered not only the Blood Cocoon but also enveloped Komodo, who had suffered a great loss and was tumbling out.
In the dense fog, a barbed tentacle suddenly stretched out, piercing towards Winchester.
This tentacle was sleek and lacked any sign of fireworks.
Winchester was startled and reflexively grabbed from the air, seizing the residual flames that Komodo had left lingering. The residue in his hand underwent a fundamental transmutation, turning into a high-temperature Magma meteor, which he hurled fiercely at the tentacle.
Crack—
With a slap of the tentacle, the meteor turned into scattered Dust.
Immediately after, the tentacle did not stop, continuing its rush towards Winchester. At this moment, Winchester finally showed panic on his face; against Komodo, he had a restraining advantage, and also, Komodo could not use high-end tricks, his unique Talent was a completely crushing force. But now, that tentacle was purely a contest of strength, and it bore no flames for him to exploit.
“Where did this cloud come from? Why is there a tentacle inside?!” It was too late to dodge, and with the tentacle about to break through his defenses, this was the only thought left in Winchester’s mind.
Just when Winchester thought he was done for, a tremendous roaring sound accompanied by the illusion of a Black Dragon burst from the fog, colliding directly with the tentacle.
Under the immense force, the tentacle was hit askew, but it swerved past Winchester, luckily allowing him to dodge this fatal blow.
“Hurry and get out of the way, leave this to me!” Issac’s figure appeared beside Winchester.
Previously, it had been Winchester charging ahead relentlessly, with Issac hiding behind the dancing radiance. But now it was reversed, with Issac standing in front, the Black Dragon illusion spreading its terrifying wings, and dragon breath scattering from its head, conjuring a dragon’s high wall out of thin air, while Winchester was protected behind it.
“Shilik shilik—” From the thinning parts of the cloud, another strange sound came.
While everyone was puzzled about what exactly was happening inside the cloud, through the light mist, they saw a huge dark figure.
The figure was obscured by clouds and wasn’t entirely clear, but it was evident that the upper and lower halves of the silhouette were extremely disproportionate, a combination of the petite and the huge.
“Twists and turns. The variables are coming one after another; what in the world is going on now?” This was said by Nereus, after the mist appeared, Yadasai found an opportunity, turned into a black shadow, and darted into the fog. Nereus had no idea what the situation inside the fog was, so he could only return to the ice floe for the time being.
No one answered Nereus, but a portion of the people, upon seeing the multitude of tentacles, seemed to recall a great Demon that had emerged from the Void Tower previously.
While everyone was bewildered, Maher suddenly arrived at the front of the ice floe: “Lord Monty, I have news from Samantha and Kanter!”
…
When she put down the communicator, Samantha’s breath was still uneven.
Kanter leaned on the rooftop of another ruined building, which seemed to fare slightly better than Samantha: “What did Lord Monty say?”
“There’s been a change in the Sky Battle; Nitotip went to attack the ice floe.” Samantha shared the message she had received: “It seems that we broke through the defenses of a great Demon, and two other great Demons are also in critical condition. We thought we could annihilate all three in one fell swoop, but Nitotip chose this moment to intervene.”
“Must be quite a blow for those above, right?” Kanter imagined the situation; if he were in the Sky Battle, experiencing an unexpected change at the critical moment, he reckoned he would be frustrated for days.
“Judging by their tone, they must be extremely angry,” Samantha said as she calmed her labored breathing, the corners of her lips curling.
“Angry they may be, but at least they saved us,” Kanter said with a laugh, though his face fell somber afterward.
Samantha nodded silently, also recalling the prior ordeal.
They had been fighting Nitotipu for who knows how long, the battle shifting from intense to a tug of war. Their strength was utterly depleted, yet Nitotipu seemed as if she hadn’t lost an ounce of vigor; not only did she appear radiant, but there was also no sign of decreased strength. In such a situation, Samantha and Kanter were already prepared to forcefully escape.
But now, with the Void sealed off, a forced escape would likely also end terribly; even if they didn’t die, they would sustain wounds too grievous to mend.
Unexpectedly, when they were nearly at their limits, the battle in the skies changed. Komodo was severely injured, the Blood Cocoons of two great Demons were exposed, and if the humans managed to break the stalemate, the Demon camp, already demoralized by the death of Barfiment, would likely crumble instantaneously.
In such a critical moment, Nitotip had no choice but to go rescue the situation. Nitotip could have driven Samantha and Kanter to desperation with just a bit more effort, but the urgent circumstances forced her to abandon the pursuit and ascend to the skies.
Therefore, although the Wizards on the ice floe were extremely frustrated, at least Samantha and Kanter narrowly escaped calamity, which was why they could banter so calmly.
However, being saved in such a manner also made these two individuals, standing at the pinnacle of the Southern Domain’s Wizards’ Realm, feel rather embarrassed.
Each time they remembered, they would reflect on the obvious disparity in strength when facing Nitotip, the feeling of powerlessness, and despair.
The two exchanged a look, both able to discern the flickering emotions in the other’s eyes.
After a moment of silence, Kanter said, “What does Monty suggest we do next? Do we continue to search for Angel?”
Samantha nodded, “We must get more detailed information from Angel. Besides that, Lord Monty has arranged for two tasks, investigating the exceedingly strong individual by Angel’s side, and the coordination with Sinafa.”
Elsewhere, in the southern outskirts of Lassudral, within the Domain of Wind.
The battles in the sky were unpredictable, and Angel’s Illusionary Realm changed accordingly. However, when he saw the rainclouds and mist appearing above, he immediately realized a new Grand Demon had arrived.
“Nitotipu has gone to the rescue,” Canaan said with a tone of relief. Although Nitotipu had previously injured him, he still tended to side with the demons in the war between humans and demons.
Angel could sense Canaan’s psychological shift and didn’t mind, given that their stances and allegiances were inherently different, and so would their eventual leanings. At least Canaan, though biased towards demons, had revealed very crucial information earlier; if it had been Pulapa instead… Angel shook his head inwardly. Pulapa harbored a deep-seated disdain for humans, even more radical than those Grand Demons.
“So it is Nitotipu after all…” Upon seeing the familiar rainclouds, Angel had suspected as much, and now that Canaan confirmed it, he couldn’t help but feel pensive.
Angel’s pensiveness had barely arisen when his expression suddenly froze.
He remembered something.
—Nitotipu had also reached the battlefield in the sky, which meant that aside from the Grand Demon left in the Void Tower to manipulate the energy stabilization facilities, all six seats had been filled?!
Then, according to Canaan’s earlier speculation, could the disturbance in the Void also be imminent? Angel’s heart skipped a beat, and his mood instantly turned anxious and restless.
But soon, Angel thought of a problem; Canaan’s speculation was entirely based on the frequency at which the Grand Demons had been entering the fray up until that point. He had not considered that the battles in the sky were changing so rapidly, and that those who appeared later like Yadasai, Komodo, and Nitotipu had all arrived not at scheduled times, but as emergency reinforcements.
If calculated this way, there should still be some time before the disturbance in the Void occurred.
But how much time that would be, Angel couldn’t be sure. Thus, he now had to find a way to convey the human extermination plan to the floating ice above.
But how to convey it?
The sky had become a no-fly zone, and breaking through the demons’ defense line would not be easy. At the moment, Angel could only think of two methods: first, to beg Fafnir for help, such as granting him control over that strand of wind in the sky. Second, to use the Secret Soul Whisper, performing Astral Projection, and with the Transcendent speed of the Gravity Meridian, break through the defense lines to deliver the news.
Both methods had their drawbacks.
Fafnir was capricious, extremely devoted to matters concerning Odeclass but indifferent to everything else. Considering Fafnir’s temperament, it was unlikely she would help.
As for the second method, setting aside whether he could break through the defense line, the turbulent energy in the air alone would be enough to distress him; not to mention, once he left, he would be unable to monitor Toby’s condition, which was also of concern to Angel.
However, apart from these, given Angel’s current situation and the urgency of time, under all these constraints, it was extremely difficult to find another method.
“Just when I can’t contact my mentor through the essence blood,” Angel lamented in his heart. If he could contact him through essence blood, there would be no need for all this planning.
Angel turned back to look at Fafnir, already guessing the outcome but still wanting to try.
“Exalted Fafnir, may I humbly request a small convenience from your grace?”
Fafnir looked over coldly, “What convenience?”
“As you have seen before, my Illusionary Realm can use different angles to display the tension of the scene. If you could share a bit of control over that wind with me, I could elevate the expressive power of the Illusionary Realm to new heights,” Angel said with sincerity.
Fafnir sized up Angel and scoffed, “You’re trying to send a message to your mentor?”
Angel’s expression became instantly rigid, “No, not at all.”
Fafnir had clearly seen that the man employing the Illusion Technique had called out Angel’s name towards the direction of the wind, indicating that he was already aware of Angel’s predicament.
After pondering for a moment, Fafnir refused Angel’s request.
In fact, whether or not she allowed Angel to communicate with his mentor made no difference to her. In any case, according to Angel’s level of concern for Toby, he would inevitably return to Ice Valley to complete Odeclass’s task.
However, Fafnir herself did not want to get involved with humans in any way. Besides, she would seize any opportunity to strike down that man named Issac.
Angel sighed, realizing he needed to think of another solution.
