Chapter 446 - 445: Broke Up

Chapter 446: Chapter 445: Broke Up

Yan Feifan had been firm in his refusal of Qin Feng for a few reasons. First, he was genuinely busy for the next two weeks and couldn’t easily make time.

Second, he wanted the other party to know that he wasn’t someone who was at their beck and call, ready to be dispatched at a moment’s notice. He especially didn’t want them trying to emotionally blackmail him with arguments that the patient had bled and suffered for the country.

In Yan Feifan’s view, every patient, no matter how humble or insignificant, had their own independent life.

In that life, they were the absolute protagonist.

Their fall meant the collapse of an entire world.

When facing life and death, no one was any more noble than anyone else.

Another point was that Yan Feifan still held a bit of a grudge about being whisked away by helicopter in the early hours of Sunday morning.

This kind of sudden emergency work seriously disrupted his life and made those around him worry a great deal.

’Just because he’s the only one who can do it, does that mean he has to be at everyone’s beck and call?’

Most importantly, Yan Feifan was afraid of dying.

Although he felt Mr. Yu’s words were a bit alarmist, he had still taken them to heart, and it had affected both his life and his work.

The beautiful scroll of his life had only just begun to unroll, and Yan Feifan had no desire to suddenly die young.

And this kind of unexpected emergency work, along with the patients themselves, was the most draining on his mind and spirit.

Yan Feifan was drawing a clear line, letting others know that there were some boundaries they could not cross.

Around 6:20 in the evening, Yan Feifan, Yu Suye, and Wang Chuan rode their bikes to Zuimo Court.

Wang Chuan had a surgery later that night and didn’t want to just grab a random bite to eat by himself, so he came over to mooch a free dinner.

When Yan Feifan got home, he was surprised to find Song Yi there, chatting with his sister.

"Song Yi, have you moved into the complex?"

Song Yi chuckled. "I moved some of my things over a while ago, but I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t actually stayed here yet."

She then added with mock complaint, "I’m busy with the company from dawn till dusk, while you all get to sit back and reap the rewards effortlessly."

Yan Feifan rolled his eyes at her and snorted, "You’re the company’s largest shareholder. If you’re not working hard, who should be?"

After washing their hands, the group sat around the dining table for dinner and started discussing work at Extraordinary Medical Technology.

Song Yi told them that the negotiations with Baiyulan Group and Baining Group were in their final stages.

The two groups would essentially use the Yangtze River as a dividing line for their respective exclusive sales territories.

Song Yi added, "The Su Bei region has been carved out separately to serve as our company’s own direct sales area."

"First, it’s to train the marketing team we’re building ourselves. Second, it’s to gain firsthand sales data and user feedback."

Yan Feifan said, "Oh," and then asked, "How is the company’s recruitment going?"

Song Yi said with a hint of pride, "The personnel my brother sent over, as well as the people we poached from Baining Group and Baiyulan Group, have all started to arrive."

"The company currently has thirty-six employees. The core personnel and departmental framework are now in place."

"The next phase is to hire front-line sales staff on a large scale and fill out the various departments."

"Also, the company’s new office space is about to open."

"I came over this time to invite you all to the opening ceremony for the new office this Friday."

"You’re all company shareholders. You should tour the new office, meet the employees, and say a few words."

Yan Feifan shook his head. "I don’t have time this Friday. I won’t be able to make it."

Song Yi grew a little anxious and tried to persuade him, "Feifan, you’re the soul of the company. Many of the shareholders invested because of you."

"Many employees also decided to join us after hearing about your accomplishments."

"Feifan, anyone else can be absent, but you can’t."

Yan Feifan was speechless.

"Song Yi, you planned this opening ceremony without telling me beforehand. This is on you."

"I have two surgeries on Friday. I really can’t get away."

Song Yi replied, looking glum, "Feifan, you know how it is. There are so many things to do at the company every day."

"Everyone had to squeeze this Friday into their schedules."

Her eyes darted around for a moment, and she asked, "No matter how busy you are on Friday, you can at least attend remotely via video call, right?"

Yan Feifan thought for a moment and said, "I should be done with the brain tumor biopsy for the American patient around 10:30."

"I could probably join in via video conference around 11:00."

Song Yi announced, "It’s settled then."

Just then, Yu Suye also spoke up. "I can’t go that day either."

Wang Chuan chimed in, "I don’t have time to go, either."

Song Yi waved her hand dismissively. "It’s up to you guys. It doesn’t matter if you come or not. If you don’t, we’ll save on hospitality costs."

Wang Chuan burst out laughing. "Song Yi, that’s such blatant favoritism! We’re major shareholders too, you know!"

Song Yi let out a sly chuckle. "As major shareholders, all you need to do is provide the money and collect the company’s growth dividends."

"As for company affairs, the less you participate, the happier we are."

Hearing this, Yu Suye couldn’t help but roll her eyes in disdain, just as Yan Feifan often did.

After a lighthearted and cheerful dinner, the group moved to the living room for tea and conversation, leaving the dining room for Du Qiu to clean up.

Song Yi then took out a few draft designs for the product packaging and asked for their opinions.

Yan Feifan didn’t pay it much mind and just casually shared a few of his thoughts...

Around 7:00 PM, Wang Chuan said his goodbyes and left.

After 8:30 PM, Song Yi left as well.

After seeing Song Yi off, Yan Feifan followed his sister into the master bedroom and asked, "Sis, you’ve been pretty quiet tonight. Is something on your mind?"

Yan Ziruo’s heart warmed, and she said with some surprise, "Feifan, you’ve learned how to care about people! Dating really can change a person."

Yan Feifan scoffed lightly. "You’re my sister. We grew up together. You think I wouldn’t notice when you’re acting strange?"

"So, what happened?"

Yan Ziruo kicked off her shoes, sat cross-legged on the bed, and said with a pained expression, "Feifan, I broke up with that guy."

"What happened, exactly?" Yan Feifan was a little surprised.

Yan Ziruo sighed. "Feifan, there’s a long line of people waiting for you to perform that spinal canal tumor surgery, and some can’t even get on the list."

"You might not know this, but a lot of patients have put out rewards, offering money to anyone who can get them a spot in the queue to have the surgery as soon as possible."

"Feifan, do you know what the highest reward offered is?"

Yan Feifan shook his head.

"It’s six hundred thousand!"

Yan Ziruo stated the number, then sighed again. "Today, that guy told me he has a very close relative who was diagnosed with a spinal tumor. He said it was very serious and wanted to ask you to do the surgery."

"I’ve always been against this kind of thing—you can’t make exceptions. I was suspicious, so after a few questions, I confirmed that his so-called ’relative’ was the person who offered the six-hundred-thousand reward."

Yan Ziruo scoffed. "More than one person has already told me about that patient’s specific situation. I’m very familiar with it."

"When I exposed him, he flew into a rage out of shame and anger."

"He said I looked down on him, that when his relative’s son had surgery, I’d rather go on an outing than visit."

"And just like that, we broke up..."

Yan Feifan sat down next to his sister, put his arm around her shoulder, and comforted her, "Sis, this just proves you two weren’t right for each other."

"To be honest, I never liked him."

"Sis, out with the old, in with the new. We’ll find someone better..."
