Chapter 332: Meeting Feng Lei
As Yi Chen’s spiritual energy made its way inside the sword, it was faced with a strong opposing force which not only tried to overpower it but, while at it, also invaded his own body from other contact points, rushing towards his spiritual sea.
Even though it was Yi Chen’s first time attempting something like this, he knew that allowing the invading spiritual energy to make its way to his spiritual sea would be similar to inviting a disaster, so using another portion of his spiritual energy, he met it head-on.
ZOOM!
The two energies collided.
One wants to make its way towards the spiritual sea, while the other wants to push the other one out.
At the same time, a similar battle was also taking place inside the sword.
Yi Chen was trying to guide his spiritual energy towards the sword’s spirit imprint placed in the middle of the blade, while the energy being emitted by the imprint was trying its best not to let that happen.
It was clearly a battle of attrition.
The winner would be the one who defends their spiritual sea or spirit imprint the longest while making sure to destroy that of their opponent.
At first, sensing the foreign spiritual energy coursing through his body, Yi Chen was naturally in a state of panic.
However, that panic soon went away after his first exchange.
Although almost similar in intensity, Yi Chen realised that his spiritual energy possessed a little more momentum when compared to the one being emitted by the spiritual imprint.
Realising this, the frown on Yi Chen’s forehead subsided considerably as he continued to push out the invading energy with all his might.
While at it, he didn’t stop the portion of his spiritual energy that was invading the Radiant Thunder Sword.
It continued to push against the defending spiritual energy and was slowly inching closer and closer to the spiritual imprint.
Since there was only a little difference in the pressures, although Yi Chen was slowly gaining an edge, the progress was slow, and any carelessness on his end would result in the other side gaining an advantage over him.
Something which Yi Chen didn’t dare to allow.
Therefore, while a small part of his spiritual energy kept defending his own spiritual sea against the other party’s imprint, he focused most of his attention on pushing through the sword’s defences to destroy the imprint.
By now, he had understood that defending would only stretch the exchange longer, which would risk depleting his spiritual sea. That’s why he started focusing more on attacking and ending this exchange as fast as possible.
Unfortunately, just because he wanted to finish things quickly didn’t mean that they would go like that.
Time kept passing by as, with knitted brows, Yi Chen kept the majority of his spiritual energy within the sword while defending his own.
Beads of sweat had naturally formed over his forehead and kept trickling down his face one after the other every few minutes.
Finally, after what seemed like an exchange that lasted for more than half an hour, Yi Chen finally pushed past the resistance and successfully invaded the spiritual imprint.
CRACK!
The entire sword rattled the moment this happened, as the spirit imprint disintegrated into nothingness.
’Phew...’
Yi Chen let out a sigh of relief, seeing that no other phenomenon had taken place.
He had thought that the moment the imprint was broken, the sword would glimmer with eye-catching lightning as the entire area around him would resonate with a thundering sound.
’Luckily, nothing as eye-catching as that had occurred...’
With this thought, he finally held up the sword that was resting on his legs and stood up the next moment.
"Let’s test it now, then, shall we?" Yi Chen muttered with an expectant smile and began pouring his Qi into the sword.
All of a sudden, a powerful suction seemed to have formed within the blade as his Qi pool started emptying out at an astronomical rate.
Fearing that his Qi pool would really dry out, he immediately tried to stop pouring the Qi inside it, only to realise that his Qi was no longer in his control.
[Qi Pool: 576 / 824]
.
.
[Qi Pool: 343 / 824]
’This...!’
Seeing his Qi pool rushing towards zero, a sense of foreboding immediately took over him.
’If even my entire Qi pool is not enough to satiate it, then...would it start absorbing my vital energy?’
He thought, recollecting a scene from one of the novels he had read back in the day, and instantly took out several Qi Nourishing Pills.
One after another, he kept eating them, forcing his Qi pool to not drop below a hundred points. It seemed to be working as his Qi pool finally seemed to have stabilised.
Meanwhile, the sword showed no signs of stopping even after this and continued to relentlessly devour Qi, which had exceeded five thousand points by now.
Just when Yi Chen was about to take out the high-grade spirit stones to compensate for the Qi Nourishing Pills that were about to get exhausted, something happened.
The entire silver blade suddenly shone with a blinding white light as violet serpent-like bolts slithered past the scissor-like engravings in the blade’s centre, thereby coating all the edges of the blade.
Witnessing the intimidating scene, Yi Chen’s jaw slackened.
"...Amazing." Yi Chen muttered in awe, but just a second later, the sword returned to its normal state.
’???’
Seeing this, Yi Chen immediately checked his Qi pool and got the answer he was looking for.
[Qi Pool: 0 / 824]
"It took so much Qi and didn’t even last for three seconds..." Yi Chen couldn’t help but purse his lips when he saw his depleted Qi pool.
More than 5000 units of Qi had been consumed in order for the sword to display its potential, but even then, it could barely last for three seconds.
By this, Yi Chen had realised that with the size of his current Qi pool, he would be unable to bring out the sword’s potential.
"...What a pity."
He sighed while glancing at the sword regretfully.
He would have to reach at least the higher levels of the Qi Absorption Stage in order to freely utilise it in battles.
From his understanding, it was only then that he would have enough Qi within him.
"That’s an interesting sword you’ve got in your hand."
Suddenly, a figure appeared right in front of Yi Chen like an apparition,
’So fast!’
Yi Chen’s eyes widened because of his sudden appearance before relaxing into a warm smile.
"Elder Lei...I’m back." Yi Chen said, unable to control the smile on his face after seeing him after so long.
"...I can see that."
Feng Lei frowned subtly, seeing Yi Chen’s unusual reaction, but not thinking over it much, probed Yi Chen’s cultivation using his spiritual sense, only for his brows to raise instantly.
"Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage?!"
Hearing Feng Lei’s exclamation, Yi Chen couldn’t help but feel a sense of achievement welling up in his heart.
To be able to see the naturally unreactive Elder Lei portray such intense emotions on his face was similar to a dream come true.
Despite relishing the feeling, he didn’t keep him waiting for long and answered while nodding, "Yes, I experienced a fortuitous encounter while exploring an ancient ruin."
"...So that’s what you’ve been up to in the last few months," Elder Lei muttered as understanding appeared on his face.
It was also at this moment that Yi Chen’s attention finally went towards Feng Lei’s blood-red eyes.
’No wonder Qin Yao felt scared...’ Yi Chen thought, seeing just how menacing Elder Lei looked because of those eyes.
"Elder Lei...your eyes...is something wrong with them?" Yi Chen asked with a confused expression.
"I’ve been exerting them a little more than usual lately, so it’s only normal." Feng Lei waved his hand as if nothing had happened and said, "Since you were waiting here for me, you must have wanted to ask me something, right? What is it?"
"About that..." Yi Chen paused for a few seconds when he heard those words.
Qin Yao wasn’t the sole reason why he wanted to meet Elder Lei tonight. Even if that wasn’t the case, he would still have been waiting for Elder Lei because there was something he desperately wanted an answer to.
Taking a deep breath, Yi Chen stabilised his breathing and met Feng Lei’s eyes.
"Uncle..." This was the first time he had addressed him as uncle, but he felt that if he didn’t, then he wouldn’t be able to get the answer he was seeking. "It’s been more than six months since I arrived at the Jade City.
Within this period, my cultivation has increased all the way from the First Meridian Refinement Stage to the Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage.
Apart from that, I’ve also played a pivotal role in making our clan rise to the first position in the Major Clan rankings.
I might have been too weak earlier to know the truth, but that’s definitely not the case anymore!
So please tell me...just who are those people responsible for Master Zheng’s injuries? Just who are the ones whom he calls his enemies, and because of whom he wants me to keep my relation with him hidden, no matter what?!"
