Lingzhi, also known as Forest Spirit and Exquisite Treasure, ginseng is called the king of herbs, while Lingzhi is known as the queen of herbs. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes Lingzhi has the effects of boosting energy, calming the mind, and prolonging life. It is widely used to treat dizziness, insomnia, palpitation, shortness of breath, and neurasthenia, and it grows in multiple regions throughout China.

The shape of Lingzhi varies greatly, with larger specimens growing up to 20 centimeters, with a reddish-brown color and a lacquer-like sheen, generally growing in shaded forest areas. Wild Lingzhi is extremely rare and thus very expensive. Nowadays, Lingzhi can be cultivated in greenhouses, but its medicinal effects differ greatly from wild and many-year-old Lingzhi.

The Lingzhi in front of Song Xiaodong and Mr Fang was shaped like a fava bean, with yellow-brown wood grain, around twenty centimeters, which is relatively large among Lingzhi species. If it were wild Lingzhi, its price would be incredibly high.

Yet if it were cultivated, it wouldn’t be worth much, just an ordinary herb.

Wild ones have extra value due to beliefs.
