Book 4, Chapter 41: Picking A Class
Chen Chuan went to the Frost King Saber and picked it up. Then, he drew it out by a bit, and a chilling light filled the room.
The Gong family had used Xiongjian Yi to bring something to Central City, but after Chen Chuan killed him, the Frost King Saber absorbed it.
Since the Gong family had gone through a lot of effort to bring it, this was definitely no ordinary object.
After the Frost King Saber fused with it, everything that it did later on proved that the thing was something special.
Chen Chuan had also pieced together the information and clues he got and became sure that this thing had something to do with Ferris Wheel.
He had a feeling that this thing was similar to an active biosentient entity.
Ferris Wheel already had its own active biosentient entity, so it didn’t need it. Besides, if it were just an active biosentient entity, there would have been no need for them to go through such trouble when transporting it to Central City.
Clearly, this thing was a threat, and they were worried that Central City’s inspection domains would detect it.
Since the gap in the World Ring was already around by then and Ferris Wheel knew that the Fu-Mu Entity was going to propagate, Chen Chuan believed that this thing was created to target the propagated offspring.
After the Frost King Saber absorbed one of them, it showed great interest in getting more of them. After that, it absorbed two more.
Hence, Chen Chuan believed that Ferris Wheel wanted to absorb the propagated offspring. Before its collapse, Ferris Wheel destroyed most of its files, but what remained revealed that Ferris Wheel and the island nations had always wanted to create their own Central City.
If all of Ferris Wheel’s plans had succeeded, including defeating the fleet from Azure Dragon and Ocean Development Corporation, they might have actually fulfilled their goal.
The international community didn’t allow countries to go to war, only the companies could fight among themselves. If Ferris Wheel had received support from the Linacrox Union, it wouldn’t have been convenient for the Great Shun Republic to take blatant action. They would have likely been forced to accept the fact that the island nations would create their own Central City.
By now, this thing had almost entirely merged with the Frost King Saber.
It didn’t matter to Chen Chuan whether the thing could grow to the level of the Fu-Mu Entity in the future. As long as it gained a part of the propagated offspring’s strength, it would be a great help to him, because this meant that he might be able to use it to open a gap.
If it could do that, he would have a way to train his mind. He wouldn’t have to search all over the place for gaps that might or not exist outside.
As if the Frost King Saber sensed his thoughts, it vibrated in response.
Excitement flickered in Chen Chuan’s eyes, but it seemed like he would need to wait a little longer. The Frost King Saber had not yet woken up.
Still, he could sense that it wouldn’t take much longer. His saber was going to wake up within the next few days.
Chen Chuan returned the Frost King Saber to its sheath before setting it down. Then, he went to the side and opened the briefcase. Once again, it was filled with tubes of pure essence.
Three units were going to be enough.
Over the past few days, he had kept absorbing pure essence at night. Even though there was only a little of it, it was purer than what he got from the faction. With the tubes he received now, his needs would be fulfilled.
Chen Chuan picked up a tube and stared at the shining, flowing light. Suddenly, he thought of something. Over the past few months, pure essence had been spreading to all parts of the world. In time, more people were going to cross the threshold and reach the next limit.
A storm was bound to rise up in the future.
Chen Chuan removed the cork and downed everything.
The night passed, and one-third of the pure essence was gone. Chen Chuan stood up and went to take a shower.
He intended to go back to Martial Valor University today.
Since he had gone on a holiday to the island nations, the hard copy of his teaching license was placed in his original dorm room. He intended to grab it. After all, he got the license so that he could use more of the university’s resources.
It was important for him to be able to continue having Hongfu as his sparring partner. Regardless of whether it was polishing his refined force or training his mind, Hongfu was of more help to him than anyone or anything else.
After changing into another set of clothes, Chen Chuan left his house and took the limousine to Martial Valor University.
His house wasn’t far from it; it was only about a ten minute ride. But this time, the trip there was exceptionally lively. The road behind the house’s gate was packed with cars. Judging by the direction they were going, all of them were headed in the same place. Chen Chuan looked into the distance and found a pillar of light on the screen of his Realm Pass. He could hear cheers and boos coming from it.
The Martial Valor University tournament was underway.
The three months while Chen Chuan was gone was supposed to be the perfect time to host the annual tournament, but due to the Fu-Mu Entity’s propagation, the event was postponed for a month, which was why it was still ongoing.
Chen Chuan contacted Wei Changan’s group and learned that they had gone to watch the tournament. Since they weren’t citizens, they could only watch from outside the arena.
Once his limousine reached the Arcane Palace, Hongfu said, “Welcome back to Martial Valor University, Lead Investigator Chen. You may enter the university through the lecturer-exclusive pathway.”
The limousine took a turn according to the instructions given on the Realm Pass and entered the university through another pathway. After Chen Chuan got out, he took the lecturer-exclusive elevator up.
He went back to his original room. On his way, he received all sorts of messages and notifications.
The first one said that he could move into a lecturer’s apartment now. It had a bigger living space and a better training room.
This could be taken care of later.
As a lecturer in the university, Chen Chuan needed to teach something.
Every year, the university evaluated the lecturers to make sure that they lived up to their positions. Every semester, Chen Chuan needed to teach three or more students properly and make sure that two of them passed their tests.
This was nothing. Since he was using the university’s resources, he naturally needed to do something back for it.
With help from Hongfu, he went to the lecturer’s platform, activated teaching access, and enabled course subscriptions. He set the price to be an average course price and picked that his strength lay in barehanded combat while removing all technique-related options, and submitted his application.
A moment later, he received a notification telling him that his application had been reviewed and approved. Then, his information was shown on the university’s platform.
Once his course showed up, some of the lecturers on the platform immediately congratulated him, regardless of whether they knew him or not.
This wasn’t just because he was now a lecturer as well, but because he was a lead investigator. The Resolution Department had deep ties with Martial Valor University, and some of the lecturers could be considered his subordinates.
He replied to all of them. While doing that, he received a message saying that someone had purchased his course.
He hadn’t expected someone to pick him so soon...
Chen Chuan took a look and found that it was a new student called Jiang Xin. After reading his information, he learned that the student had graduated from Yangzhi City’s Martial Valor University this year and joined the main campus.
He took a look at his photo and found that he was a slightly bashful teenager with a bright smile.
Chen Chuan approved the student and took a look. Jiang Xin had public lectures to attend that day and the next, so he set their class to be the day after tomorrow.
He just needed to teach two more people, and he could fulfill the minimum requirement.
Jiang Xin might have heard about Chen Chuan before, and since they were both from Yangzhi City, he immediately bought his classes. Others wouldn’t buy his classes right away, but would observe for a time. Still, he had a whole semester ahead, so he wasn’t worried. If worse came to worst, he could ask Wei Dong to be one of his students.

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao were browsing the university platform in a lounge when they saw a push notification on their screen telling them that a new lecturer had appeared. The students could buy this lecturer’s courses now.
Fan Cheng tapped on the notification and gasped in surprise. “Kong Yao, look! Isn’t this Chen Chuan?”
Kong Yao took a look and her eyes went wide in surprise as she exclaimed, “That is Chen Chuan! He’s a lecturer now?”
They exchanged looks of amazement and disbelief. They had been fellow coursemates not too long ago, yet Chen Chuan was now their lecturer.
But it wasn’t as if they were the type to be wilfully ignorant of the world around them. They concerned themselves with the happenings in Central City and knew that Chen Chuan was working in the Resolution Department. He even had a high position there.
Fan Cheng took a quick look at the description and read it out loud. “Chen Chuan, Class Three lecturer in Martial Valor University, Third Limit martial artist, lead investigator in the Resolution Department...”
When he recited that title, he gulped. He knew all too well just what being a lead investigator in the Resolution Department entailed.
Then, he continued, “Strengths are... barehanded fighting... Everything?!”
His eyes flew wide open in astonishment. Being skilled in every category in barehanded fighting meant that Chen Chuan could teach every fighting style that didn’t involve a weapon, regardless of whether it was Sanshou, grappling, or takedowns.
No lecturer could say that they were skilled at something without proof. The university and Hongfu reviewed and verified it. If it was written in the description, it meant that the leaders of Martial Valor University and Hongfu acknowledged this.
After staring at the description for a while, Fan Cheng turned to Kong Yao. “Say, should we buy two classes from Mr. Chen and try it out?”
Kong Yao was bewildered. “Why?”
Fan Cheng stared at the platform. “We’ve attended plenty of lecturers’ classes since we came to the university, but we’ve had limited growth and are only barely passing our tests. You have no idea just how nervous I am whenever I wait for our results. I’m always so worried about us getting sent to fight in the tournament.
“Everyone is working hard, so if we slow down for even a moment, we might end up fighting in the tournament.
“But I feel like I’m about to reach my bottleneck. You must be feeling the same, right? The lecturers we go to for lessons are about the same. Even if they teach us one-on-one, we improve in the beginning, but soon stop getting stronger. Mr. Chen has been improving at a speed I’ve never seen before, so he might have some kind of secret. Why don’t we give it a try?”
Kong Yao wasn’t so sure. She felt that Chen Chuan was able to get stronger at such a speed because of his talent. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to buy one or two of his classes. If worse came to worst, they could just attend another lecturer’s classes afterwards. “Alright. Let’s give it a try,” she said with a nod.
