Chapter 478: Chapter 478: Respect Them, Accept Impermanence
Soon, Kyle Morgan and Levi Hollis sent the couple’s personal information to the group chat.
The middle-aged man was Jenson Marsh, forty-two years old and a botany researcher.
The middle-aged woman was Amanda Lynn, forty-three years old and a classical dance teacher.
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow when she saw this. ’No wonder the woman carries herself so gracefully; she’s a classical dance teacher.’
They had a daughter named Melody Marsh.
She skipped past the other information and, upon seeing the contact number, dialed Amanda Lynn’s phone directly. After a few rings, a gentle female voice answered, "Hello."
"Hello, may I ask if this is Ms. Amanda Lynn?" Renee Jennings asked.
Amanda Lynn: "Yes, it is. And who is this?"
"Ms. Lynn, my name is Renee Jennings. I’m an animal streamer on TikTok, and I specialize in communicating with animals. I was the one who accidentally walked into your private dining room earlier... I know this is sudden, but I have to ask, do you have a daughter named Melody Marsh?"
Amanda Lynn was taken aback for a moment, then asked uncertainly, "Why do you ask?"
’An animal streamer? What does she have to do with Melody?’
Renee Jennings’s voice was calm and clear. "Ms. Lynn, are you with friends right now? You don’t have to say anything. First, just search for my videos on the platform. If you come to believe that I can communicate with animals, I will tell you what might happen next."
The light inside the van was dim. Amanda Lynn and her daughter were in the last row. She glanced at her daughter, then replied, "Okay."
She kept the call active, opened TikTok, and typed "Renee Jennings" into the search bar.
To her, most of the video content seemed rather sensational.
’Can people really communicate with animals?’
Amanda Lynn skimmed a few clips, then put the phone back to her ear. "Miss Jennings," she said in a low voice, "how did you get my number?"
Renee Jennings said softly, "Can I add you on WeChat? It would be better to talk there."
Amanda Lynn hesitated for a moment but agreed. "Fine, go ahead and add me."
"Okay." Renee Jennings quickly sent the request. "I’ve sent it. Please accept."
Amanda Lynn: "Alright."
Once she confirmed Amanda Lynn had accepted her friend request, Renee Jennings ended the call.
She quickly typed and sent a message:
[Ms. Lynn, what I’m about to say may sound absurd, but I feel it’s necessary to warn you.]
[The couple you are traveling with has grown jealous because their son’s college entrance exam scores are lower than your daughter’s. The black dog at the bamboo rice restaurant tonight happened to overhear their conversation.]
The van hit a bumpy patch of road, and as Amanda Lynn read the message, she suddenly felt dizzy.
She frowned in thought for a moment before typing a reply: [What conversation?]
Renee Jennings: [They feel your family is being too smug, that your attitude is hurting their son, and they want to ruin your daughter, Melody Marsh.]
Renee Jennings: [Remember how I came into your private room tonight? It wasn’t a mistake. I wanted to get a good look at all of you.]
Amanda Lynn’s brow furrowed deeply, as if she couldn’t process the information.
She looked up at the woman in the front seat. This was her best friend, someone she’d known for thirty years, ever since junior high.
Compared to Renee Jennings, Amanda Lynn obviously trusted her best friend more.
She replied: [Miss Jennings, I’m truly sorry, but I can’t cooperate with you to film your content. Sian and I have known each other for thirty years. I know what kind of person she is, and she’s not who you say she is.]
[Sian is wonderful to my daughter. She’s always sending her food, clothes, and other gifts. She says her biggest regret is not having a daughter of her own, so she dotes on mine as if she were her own flesh and blood.]
Amanda Lynn’s reply was actually what Renee Jennings had expected.
"Renee, what’s happening?" Michelle Fuller craned her neck to see the front passenger seat.
Renee Jennings sighed and shook her head. "She doesn’t believe me. She thinks her best friend dotes on her daughter as if she were her own."
Sitting in the very back, Hilary was frantic. "Good grief, she’s going to get her daughter harmed!"
"Exactly!" Michelle Fuller was also getting impatient. "Hasn’t she ever heard it’s better to be safe than sorry?"
In contrast to the two agitated young women, Jude Sherman remained calm. "If that’s her choice, we should respect it. We’ve done all we can. We can only accept what we cannot change."
Let others bear the consequences of their choices.
Renee Jennings sighed as well. "If she’s dead set against believing it, we can’t force her."
But, having learned of the plot, she couldn’t just stand by and watch the girl fall into danger.
The most brilliant and dazzling Chapter of her life was just beginning.
Renee Jennings pursed her lips and said softly, "First, I’ll have Kai and the others see if they can find the car’s location using the Skynet system."
"Okay," Zachary Conway nodded.
Renee Jennings returned to the chat window with Amanda Lynn and sent one last message: [I’ve said all I can. I wish you the best.]
The black van drove on, seemingly without a destination in the dark of night.
Meanwhile, Amanda Lynn clutched her phone. After she had sent her reply, no response had come from Renee Jennings, filling her with a strange sense of unease.
Just then, her phone vibrated in her palm. She looked down, unlocked it, and her frown deepened as she saw the terse message on the screen.
’What on earth was this person trying to do?’
’Didn’t she just want to record content for her show?’
Amanda Lynn turned her head and gazed at her daughter. The girl was wearing white wireless earbuds, her head tilted against the vehicle’s interior. Her profile was soft, exuding a serene and beautiful aura.
She reached out, her fingertips brushing a strand of hair from the girl’s face.
Sensing the movement, Melody Marsh turned her head, taking out one earbud. "Mom? What’s wrong?" she asked with a smile.
"What are you listening to?" Amanda Lynn asked casually.
Melody Marsh: "English practice. Want to listen?"
Amanda Lynn shook her head. "It’s nothing. You go ahead."
In the front seat, Susan Roth listened to the mother-daughter exchange and secretly rolled her eyes.
’Listening to English? Her score on the college entrance exam was already two hundred points higher than my son’s, and she’s *still* studying English. Who is she trying to nauseate with this act?’
Susan Roth glanced at her own son, her face filled with heartache.
’Her poor boy has had such a miserable day.’
’But tomorrow, my son will be happy. After all, once tonight is over, Melody Marsh will have nothing left to be proud about.’
’By then, it won’t be *her* looking down on my son. It’ll be our Yates family looking down on *her*.’
At this thought, Susan Roth’s lips curled into a smile.
The van entered the Draken Hot Springs Villa Complex.
Susan Roth’s husband, Jasper Yates, parked the van and announced cheerfully, "Alright everyone, we’re here."
"Finally," Susan Roth said as she got out, rubbing her lower back. "My back and butt are aching from that long drive."
Seeing Amanda Lynn and Melody Marsh getting out, Susan Roth added solicitously, "Mandy, you and Melody must be even more uncomfortable in the back. I’ll give you both a massage in a little while."
"Thank you, Aunt Helen," Melody Marsh replied dutifully. "I’m not tired."
Watching her best friend, Amanda Lynn grew even more certain. ’That streamer was just spouting nonsense for her show. There’s no way Sian would ever hurt my daughter.’
