Chapter 581: Ling Er’s Plight

Chapter 581: Ling Er’s Plight

"Who is this? What’s the South Lin Sword Sect?"

"I don’t know. Never heard of it before."

"I guess it will be over soon for this Lao Er."

No one knew who Lao Er or the South Lin Sword Sect was, and they weren’t too optimistic with the fate of Lao Er.

Lao Er looked young and inexperienced, it would be a wonder if he could get out of the competition stage alive and unharmed.

That was what Sima Jie was thinking too, and he decided not to waste any time on Lao Er.

He took out a scissors from his sleeve pocket, put it into his left hand and snipped it at the direction where Lao Er was.

Slice.

A huge glowing scissors appeared in front of Lao Er out of nowhere and it closed its blades together.

Lao Er didn’t waver and he leaped away from the glowing scissors gracefully with the Snow Swan Sword Style Steps.

"What?"

"He is a cultivator after all...."

"Look, he is going to retaliate."

The crowd didn’t expect Lao Er to be able to dodge the attack and they were even more surprised with Lao Er being calm and bold enough to strike back immediately.

Lao Er’s figure came at Sima Jie in a jagged path, leaping from left to right randomly, making it difficult for Sima Jie to unleash his twirling wind strike or use his scissors artifact to stop Lao Er.

When Lao Er got close enough to Sima Jie, he slashed his sword at the knees of Sima Jie.

Sima Jie quickly swung his sword to the side, trying to parry the sword of Lao Er away from his knees.

Whoosh!

He missed the blade of Lao Er’s sword.

Lao Er had taken a step to his side and turned his sword at Sima Jie’s neck.

Without any hesitation, Lao Er thrust the tip of his sword forward.

The blade of his sword glowed in a white glow like a swan and it jabbed into the neck of Sima Jie.

"Argh!" Sima Jie felt the intense pain from the wound and he quickly swung his sword at Lao Er.

His sword gave out a glow and a slicing wave shot out from it at Lao Er.

It worked with the slicing wave coming at tremendous velocity, forcing Lao Er to pull out his sword from the neck of Sima Jie to take a step back to dodge it.

Drip.

Blood dripped onto the ground from Sima Jie’s wound.

And it got him mad.

He used the scissors that was in his left hand and snipped it at Lao Er.

The glowing scissors appeared again.

Lin Xuan Qi frowned and sat up straight, getting ready to intervene if required.

Lao Er instinctively leaped into the air and stretched out his arms to the side, and while doing so, his sword slashed at Sima Jie, giving out a slicing wave.

His figure also formed a glowing white swan with this strike.

With Lao Er in the air, the cut from the glowing scissors missed and Sima Jie tried to raise his sword to block out the strike from Lao Er.

Splatter.

The slicing wave reached Sima Jie before he could block it and it ripped his chest and part of his neck open.

Sima Jie turned unconscious and dropped to the ground.

It took a moment for Sima Yu to raise his hand and declare the winner.

"Winner for this match, Lao Er from the South Lin Sword Sect."

The whole arena turned silent like what it did earlier after the first match.

This time, none had bet on Lao Er winning and everyone lost their bet.

"No... How is it possible?"

"I thought that it would be a sure win and bet all my money on Sima Jie winning."

"I’ll have to go hungry for the next few days..."

Some of them had bet all they could on Sima Jie winning, which didn’t happen.

Lin Xuan Qi, on the other hand, might be the only person in the arena other than Lao Er and Ling Er who was happy about it.

He had made a windfall on Lao Er’s win and he was also glad that Lao Er didn’t disappoint him.

All the hard work he had put in was fruitful.

He wanted to go up to Lao Er and congratulate him if he could.

But it would draw unnecessary attention to himself, so he knew better than to do so.

At best, he could ask Old Feng at the inn to give Lao Er and Ling Er a treat.

"Ten taels of silver..." Sima Long, who was beside him, could only give out a long sigh at the money he had lost.

"Don’t worry, you will make it back with the rest of the matches." Lin Xuan Qi patted Sima Long on the back to console him.

Sima Long could only nod his head and glance at the stack of betting slips he had left.

Lao Er kept his sword back into its scabbard and bowed to Sima Jie, who was being tended to with recovery pills.

Then, he walked down off the competition stage and headed towards Ling Er.

Everyone’s gaze was on him with so many questions in their minds.

"Anyone have any idea who he is?"

"What about the South Lin Sword Sect? Any ideas?"

"Why didn’t anyone hear of it before?"

They asked around but no one had an answer.

It dawned on them next that they had also bet against Ling Er for the next match when they saw her talking with Lao Er happily.

And they had an unsettling feeling from it.

But it was going to be too late for them as Ling Er was getting ready for her match.

She walked slowly towards the competition stage and she took a deep breath before walking onto it.

Her opponent, Sima Yu Ling, was also a young woman like her.

Sima Yu Ling frowned and was anxious after witnessing Lao Er’s performance.

When both of them were finally on the competition stage, Sima Yu raised his hands and said, "Let the match begin!"
