Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 141: The Disappearing Zombies

"Hey! Listen up! I don't know where you were planning to go! But... you're in great danger right now! Repeat! Great danger! In short, you'd better leave immediately!" The man's voice trembled slightly, and there was an unmistakable fear woven into his words.

"If you plan to come to us, our location is somewhere like this... The name of the factory is 'Zhongkun Clothing.'"

As the man's words faded, Tang Xiaoquan, who had been relatively calm, felt a strange sense of shock creeping in. He disliked being kept in the dark and urgently needed to understand the "danger" the man was referring to.

After all, he wasn't willing to give up a huge pile of "collectible supplies" behind them just because of the man's baseless assertions.

Moreover, from what he could see, there was no sign of danger around them.

So, seeing is believing. Unless the man could provide a convincing explanation, Tang Xiaoquan couldn't help but question the man's credibility.

And whether they should seek shelter with him also required careful consideration!

Thinking of this, Tang Xiaoquan decisively pressed the talk button on the walkie-talkie and solemnly voiced his doubt: "Why do you say the area I'm in is very dangerous? Currently, we..."

"It's hard to explain in a sentence or two! If you want to survive, leave quickly! There's...zzz... a large number of...zzz"

"Hello! Hello, hello?" Just as the conversation reached a crucial point, annoying static interference sounded again. Anxious, Tang Xiaoquan raised the walkie-talkie high, waving it around to try and capture a signal and hear the rest of the man's words.

But...

His back was slapped twice, and Wang Qiang's terrified curse rang out: "Damn it, Quan! Stop, stop, damn it, stop answering! We, we, we need to retreat! Get the hell out of here quickly!"

Before he could react, Tang Xiaoquan felt his shoulder tighten, and then a strong force tugged him off balance, lifting him off the ground from behind the next second.

"What are you doing!"

"Cut the crap! What do you think? We're running for our lives, of course!"

"What! Running for our lives?" Tang Xiaoquan, unable to understand the situation, wanted to stop and look back. However, with his arms restrained and the surrounding terrain complex, he had no choice but to follow his brother blindly.

After taking a few staggering steps, their figures gradually steadied. Tang Xiaoquan quickly looked ahead to check on his companions not far away.

He saw Wei Yang vigorously waving his arms, Zhao Yunhai hurriedly smoking with urgency, and Hu Xiaodong...

The compound bow was raised high, the sharp arrowhead glinting with cold light under the sunlight.

Hundreds, no, possibly more—all in all, in this moment, a growing number of heads were swaying and advancing, their sheer number akin to a swarm of locusts descending on a field, thick and unstoppable.

In fact, Hu Xiaodong noticed this strange occurrence a few minutes earlier but, due to limited visibility and vehicular obstruction, assumed it was just a few stray zombies and paid little mind.

Nonetheless, he had immediately alerted the companions in charge of the search ahead.

Unfortunately, their attention was fully focused on Tang Xiaoquan and the walkie-talkie in his hand, paying no heed to his warning.

Gazing upon the nerve-wracking shifting black shadows, Hu Xiaodong couldn't help but feel droplets of cold sweat on his forehead.

At less than 40 meters, the group of corpses was already within Hu Xiaodong's shooting range, yet he didn't have the intention to release the string, his taut muscles and bulging veins highlighted.

Undoubtedly, for Hu Xiaodong, a master archer, taking down a zombie from this distance was as easy as retrieving an object from his pocket.

But was it meaningful? Clearly not! Because when facing such a massive swarm, even if you exhaust yourself or ruin your bow and arrows, it's unlikely to eliminate even a fraction.

Therefore, Hu Xiaodong's mission was clearly defined: to utilize his vantage point to assist companions by eliminating any walkers that could pose a threat to them.

The arrowhead locked onto a zombie at the front of the swarm, as a killing aura steadily rose between Hu Xiaodong's furrowed brows.

No doubt, should this zombie make any adverse move, a fate of brain-piercing and falling lifeless would await it.

While running at high speed, the man's silhouette atop the vehicle conveyed everything to Tang Xiaoquan.

He regretted not noticing the anomalies on the road sooner, but luckily, his companions discovered it in time, or else... Tang Xiaoquan dared not think further.

The solid and grand form of the GL8 began to come into clear view. Just a few more steps, and the survivors could drive away. However...

"Ah!" A scream shattered the silence!

The survivors instinctively halted, collectively turning their gaze behind them.

Oh my God! As his pupils dilated rapidly, Tang Xiaoquan's flushed face turned ghostly pale in an instant. He finally saw the thing he had been desperately fleeing from: zombies! Swarms of zombies!

"Damn it, where's Ah Cheng? Where did Ah Cheng go?" Wang Qiang glanced around, a terrible thought manifesting in his mind.

"There! Ah Cheng's over there!"

Hearing Wang Qiang and Wu Chao's frantic exchange beside him, Tang Xiaoquan's dazed mind snapped back to reality.

Ah Cheng had fallen! At this critical, life-or-death moment, he had fallen! Following his direction, Tang Xiaoquan could clearly see several ragged zombies stretching their arms, excitedly making their way towards Ah Cheng.

"Damn it!" Cursing under his breath, Wang Qiang dashed back, holding the Long Spear!

Rescue! That was his only thought at this moment. Though he knew what he would face, as a man, he had to fulfill his past vow.

Watching his companion charge fearlessly towards the zombie sea, Tang Xiaoquan anguishedly rubbed his forehead.

Undeniably, the walkers had detected their presence, evident from their enthusiastic and aggressive display.

Thus, Tang Xiaoquan decisively abandoned the idea of returning to aid his companion. Instead, he made his way to the nearest car and gently opened the car door...
