Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 116: The Light Flashing from Across the Street (Part 1)

"What? Xiao Tang, what's so mysterious that you had to tell me here?" Hu Xiaodong asked with a smile, curious about why he'd been called out.

In response, Tang Xiaoquan replied seriously, without a hint of a smile, "It's like this, Brother Hu, you're aware of our food reserves. I won't deny that Wei Yang's cooking is exceptional, but..."

Glancing cautiously around and confirming no one else was present, Tang Xiaoquan leaned in and lowered his voice, "But with her way of cooking, the speed at which we're consuming our food, I'm afraid..."

"How much longer can we hold on?" A change from his earlier relaxed demeanor, Hu Xiaodong turned serious upon hearing these words.

Holding up two fingers, Tang Xiaoquan said slowly and deliberately, "Two days, provided we return to the original supply method; otherwise..."

Shaking his head helplessly, Tang Xiaoquan then slowly lowered one finger.

"I... understand," Hu Xiaodong said, drawing out the words, realizing the gravity of the situation.

But ultimately, the blame for all this lay with him and the others for not informing Wei Yang promptly, so the fault wasn't hers, but theirs.

However, the situation had already occurred, and regrets and complaints were useless; finding a solution was the right path.

"So, Xiao Tang, what do you suggest?" Hu Xiaodong shifted his gaze to meet Tang Xiaoquan's eyes, believing the young man had more in mind than just stating the problem.

Hu Xiaodong's intuition was correct; Tang Xiaoquan indeed had another purpose for calling him out, but just as he was about to speak, the sudden clamor from the living room interrupted them.

"Come on! Is there really a bright light, Qiangzi?"

"Haha, maybe you just overate and got dizzy!"

"Get lost, you and your entire family overate and got dizzy!"

"What's going on? What's happened?" Walking into the room, Hu Xiaodong's deep and imposing voice asked.

"Damn! Brother Hu, you're just in time! Come, come, come!" Without another word, Wang Qiang grabbed Hu Xiaodong's arm and pulled him to the seat:

"Look, Brother Hu, I was just lying here. Then suddenly a flash of light crossed my eyes, I didn't pay it any mind at first, just thought it was the sun's glare. But the damn thing kept flashing at me several times, so I instinctively looked out the window. You know what, I'm sure I saw the light, but..."

"But he doesn't know where the light came from... hahahaha!" Interjected with a mocking tone, Wen Quanxin struck a teasingly aggrieved pose.

"Go play on the side!" Pointing with his middle finger, Wang Qiang shouted at Wen Quanxin, then pulled Hu Xiaodong forward and pushed him to the window: "Brother Hu, your eyesight is good, help me find that light!"

Wiping the sweat from his forehead tiredly, Hu Xiaodong didn't believe anyone would be bored enough to do such a foolish thing.

Still, considering Wang Qiang's personality, he reluctantly replied, "Okay, do you have a general direction of the light? Left or right?"

"Uh, this~" With his mouth half-open, Wang Qiang slowly raised his right hand, waving it back and forth several times from right to left, left to right before finally giving his answer, "Somewhere across the street anyway!"

His eyelid twitched slightly; good heavens, the opposite side was an entire street, stretching for dozens of meters, not to mention the stacked buildings.

If he were to look at each building and window at this scale, Hu Xiaodong might as well spend the entire day playing a "spot the difference" game.

Besides, the inconvenience aside, if it could be found, the problem was...

Turning his head slightly with some difficulty, Hu Xiaodong rested his hand on Wang Qiang's shoulder, "Brother, it's not that I'm unwilling to help, but without any specifics, how am I supposed to find it?"

As his voice dropped, Hu Xiaodong braced himself for a barrage of reproach, yet the expected tirade didn't occur. Instead, Tang Xiaoquan, frowning deeply, said from behind, "That's not necessarily so; I think the light's position should be over there."

Springing upright, Tang Xiaoquan explained as he walked, "I just tested it from where Wang Qiang lied, and the area likely illuminated by the light should be roughly there. So, Brother Hu, please look within that range!"

With assertion in his eyes and careful reasoning, the image of a student emerged in Wang Qiang's mind, along with the classic line echoing in his ears: "There is only one truth!"

Emma, what a revelation! Quickly dispelling the chaotic thoughts, Wang Qiang straightened his back instinctively, rubbing his fists together and said, "So, Brother Hu, with the direction confirmed, can we get started now?"

Looking at Tang Xiaoquan with a bitter smile, Hu Xiaodong couldn't understand how such a typically sharp young man could join Wang Qiang in such foolish antics.

Now, with his words spoken, Hu Xiaodong had no choice but to agree to the task.

Sighing quietly to himself, Hu Xiaodong gazed into the distance.

Following the scope provided by Tang Xiaoquan, Hu Xiaodong began his detailed search, from top to bottom, left to right.

The sun was incredibly glaring, making this search against the light very uncomfortable. Soon, Hu Xiaodong's face was drenched with sweat like running water.

Time ticked by, and even though years of archery had honed Hu Xiaodong's patience, the fruitless search gradually wore down his interest.

"I say, Qiangzi! Maybe you really are..."

Just as he was about to say "dizzy," Tang Xiaoquan suddenly shouted excitedly beside him as if discovering a new continent: "Over there! Over there! Next to the women's boutique Ailaiyi, the building, one, two, three floors up, the rightmost window."

Discarding other concerns, everyone crowded to the window and looked in the direction Tang Xiaoquan pointed.

Sure enough, a man was leaning at a window, with his right hand waving incessantly; a small mirror reflected faint light intermittently.

"He seems to be waving at us?"

"Yeah, he seems to know we've spotted him!"

"I knew it! Didn't I say there was a light?" Wang Qiang jumped around joyfully, like he hit a lottery jackpot.

But at this moment, nobody cared to entertain him, as the man across the street was taking action...
