Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 108: Bottles? Ingenious Plan! (Part 4)

"Crackle pop!"

Five people, with two bottles each, aimed at the same target. In an instant, the tiny flame that was barely visible erupted into a massive pillar of fire.

The saying really held true: A single spark can start a prairie fire!

With such a series of chaotic sounds and that huge mass of blazing fire, the zombies finally lost their interest in venting their "beastly desires" on the cold iron door.

They began to methodically turn around from outside to inside, dragging their feet step by slow step, swaying towards the "firework" main stage.

As for how the walking corpses would "celebrate" this spectacle next, the five human survivors clearly had no interest in continuing to watch.

To avoid unnecessary trouble and to prevent the beasts from discovering their presence, the survivors decided to stop while they were ahead and no longer throw "Incendiary Bottles".

Gathering up the remaining six "bottle bombs," the survivors returned indoors one by one.

In the living room, the girl's expression was as lifeless as ever. The blow of losing her parents and the days spent in a vortex of fear had pushed this poor girl to the brink of collapse.

Tears had long dried up, and not even a sob could muster from her now.

She just sat there silently, her body huddled like a soulless shell, not moving an inch.

The girl didn't speak, and the men gathered around her didn't know what to do, so they also stayed silent, praying in their hearts for her to quickly emerge from this dark cloud.

After sitting quietly for more than half an hour, Tang Xiaoquan, who had been frowning all along, suddenly stood up. It seemed like he had thought of something, and he waved his hand at Hu Xiaodong, then the two left the living room under the curious gaze of their companions.

"What is it? Something up, Little Tang?" Getting right to the point, Hu Xiaodong asked as soon as they left the room.

Tang Xiaoquan nodded: "It's like this, Brother Hu, do you think we should prepare a room for that girl?"

Worried that his words might be misunderstood by Hu Xiaodong, Tang Xiaoquan quickly added, "She's just been through such a huge trauma, so I thought letting her stay alone might be more beneficial to her recovery than having her surrounded by us."

Hearing this, Hu Xiaodong thoughtfully stroked his chin.

Tang Xiaoquan was undoubtedly correct, his ideas coincided with Hu Xiaodong's, though Hu Xiaodong also had deeper considerations.

After all, the six of them were all men. It was usually fine to be casual, but now that the girl was joining them, they had to consider her future living arrangements.

"Hmm," Hu Xiaodong acknowledged after a moment's thought, "Yes, it's not very convenient for a young lady to stay with us in one room. How about this, Little Tang, let's clear out the storage room and make it her room, what do you think?"

Naturally, Tang Xiaoquan had no objections and immediately agreed with a "Good".

Once they had agreed, Hu Xiaodong and Tang Xiaoquan quietly returned to the living room and whispered a few words into the ears of Wang Qiang, Wu Chao, and the others. Except for A Cheng who stayed to look after the girl, the rest followed them out of the living room.

The cleaning task wasn't complicated; it was simply about moving the boxes and containers out of the storage room.

Of course, to avoid disturbing the girl in the future, Tang Xiaoquan thoughtfully packed up the everyday clothes that everyone might need.

When the moving tasks were finished, everyone set to work with brooms and rags, sweeping and wiping as necessary. By the time they were done, they were sweating more than after fighting zombies.

Despite the exhaustion, the five men couldn't help but smile as they looked at the increasingly tidy storage room.

They hoped the girl would recover soon because only then could they find some redemption for the grief they felt over her father's tragic death.

Due to the limited space, the survivors couldn't furnish the girl's room with much.

A couch and some simple daily necessities constituted the little room she would be moving into.

Returning to the living room brought an immediate sense of suffocation from the oppressive atmosphere.

They couldn't let this continue, as it would hinder the girl's recovery and affect everyone's spirits.

With this in mind, Tang Xiaoquan felt he had to say something. But, despite racking his brain, he couldn't think of the right words. In the end, he awkwardly introduced everyone:

"Haha, um~ hello! My name is Tang Xiaoquan; that big guy is Brother Hu, Hu Xiaodong; he's Wang Qiang; the younger one is A Cheng; there's Xiao Wen, Wen Quanxin; and last, Wu Chao."

As the words fell, each survivor smiled and nodded at the girl when their name was mentioned.

Unfortunately, throughout the entire process, the girl showed no reaction, not even lifting her head.

Tang Xiaoquan gave a slightly embarrassed chuckle, but he wasn't ready to give up. After a moment, he tried again with a smile: "So, young lady, we've finished our introductions, could you…?"

"Wei Yang!" The girl's voice suddenly interrupted Tang Xiaoquan, cold and devoid of any emotion.

A little startled, Tang Xiaoquan glanced at the girl in surprise. Not only him, but the others also turned their heads with expressions of disbelief.

The girl had spoken! This was clearly unexpected, but quickly, they all shifted from surprise to bright, comforting smiles.

"Ah, Wei~ Wei~" Tang Xiaoquan stammered with a tea cup in hand, "Miss Wei, here, have some water to soothe your throat."

Not a sound could be heard, the living room was deathly silent. After uttering those two words of her name, the girl fell silent once more.

With no other choice, Tang Xiaoquan put the tea cup back on the table and scratched his head in frustration.

In truth, though he had read many psychology books, he found that theory was vastly different from practice when it came to applying that knowledge now.

Time passed slowly in the oppressive atmosphere, and just when everyone was about to be driven mad by the silent tension, Wei Yang finally began to unfold her huddled form, and then she…
