Chapter 306 Silence at the Bai Family Villa_1

"There's still one alive."

Cai Ruifeng's cold gaze fell on Bai Wei. His target was only Mrs. Bai, not her daughter. Seeing that Bai Wei was young and frail, he didn't feel a strong urge to kill her.

"Please don't kill me!" When Bai Wei saw the bloodthirsty, cold look in Cai Ruifeng's eyes, her knees buckled. She knelt on the ground with a thud, her skirt spreading out on the floor. "I don't blame you for killing my mother, but please, spare my life, won't you?"

Cai Ruifeng glanced at Mrs. Bai's body on the floor, pondering for a moment.

"I won't tell anyone I saw you," Bai Wei continued, pleading for her life. "I'll act like you were never here. You can leave without any worries. Just be careful of the surveillance cameras so you don't get caught. Otherwise, you'll be in big trouble."

"I killed your mother," Cai Ruifeng said expressionlessly.

"She… she…" Bai Wei's mouth fell slightly agape. "When she told me about her plan, I knew something was wrong. It was too cruel, and I didn't approve. Don't people always say that every debt has its debtor? How could she kill innocent people? But she did it anyway. She was… she was…"

"She was what?" Cai Ruifeng narrowed his eyes, a flicker of interest in his gaze.

"The books say you reap what you sow," Bai Wei said, looking up at Cai Ruifeng from her knees. "This is the price she paid for her actions. I… I'm innocent. I don't want to be implicated because of her mistakes. Please, I'm begging you, let me live. I'm still young. I don't want to die, I really don't want to die…"

"Haha, little girl!" Cai Ruifeng suddenly burst out laughing. "I've killed many people, men and women alike. None of them were good people. They were all just as you said… people who reaped what they sowed. They all deserved to die!"

"Yes, people like that deserve to die." Bai Wei's eyes brimmed with a pitiful light as she knelt on the ground, a heart-wrenching sight.

I should be able to survive, she thought. It seems my words struck a chord with this ruthless man. Reading more books is never a bad thing.

"But!"

Cai Ruifeng suddenly raised his hand. A screwdriver shot out and embedded itself in Bai Wei's flawless, white forehead.

Bai Wei's head snapped back. Then, still in a kneeling position, she collapsed to the floor. Her face was frozen in astonishment, unable to comprehend why Cai Ruifeng had killed her so decisively.

"But she was your mother, after all!" Cai Ruifeng glanced at Bai Wei's body, like a wilted flower. "How could you say such things about your own mother!"

Cai Ruifeng was a ruthless man, true enough. But he was also a filial son. Although he rarely went home due to his many enemies and hadn't seen his old mother in years, he never failed to send her gifts and money for the holidays. He despised people like Bai Wei.

"What a waste of such a pretty face." Cai Ruifeng spat in Bai Wei's direction, then turned and walked out of the villa.

But as he walked, his pace suddenly slowed, and then he stopped. He turned, glanced back, and scratched his head, muttering to himself, "Still warm. Better eat it while it's hot!"

Cai Ruifeng strode toward the bodies of Bai Wei and her mother, but he walked right past them without stopping, stepping over their corpses. He finally sat down at the dining table. A smile touched his lips as he looked at the steaming dishes. He picked up his chopsticks and began to feast.

I've killed again. I'd better eat up. A full stomach is best for a long escape.

Cai Ruifeng ate for a full half-hour, wiping the table clean of every dish. Then, he swaggered out of the Bai Family villa.

Night had fallen like a shroud of ink. The Bai Family villa was brightly lit, but it was now shrouded in a heavy pall of death.

Mrs. Bai probably never imagined, even in her final moments, that the celebratory feast she had so painstakingly prepared would be devoured by the very person who had murdered her and her daughter.

"The job is done. No survivors," Cai Ruifeng said into his phone after leaving the villa. "From now on, we don't owe each other anything." He relayed the two short messages to Du Zilong before vanishing down a street with no lights.

WHOOSH...

About ten minutes after Cai Ruifeng left, a chilling wind suddenly stirred within the deathly silent Bai Family villa. To be precise, it started in the main hall. It was a strange wind, not flowing from a single direction like a normal draft, but gathering from all sides toward a central point. It certainly wasn't from the air conditioner; because of an old illness that made her susceptible to chills, Bai Wei hadn't allowed the AC to be turned on in a long time. This cold draft didn't even seem like wind, but more like a fluctuation of energy.

The cold gusts converged, forming a small whirlwind. The whirlwind constantly shifted until it coalesced into a shadowy figure.

It was none other than Mrs. Bai.

"I'm dead! I'm dead!" Mrs. Bai shrieked, looking at her own corpse on the floor. She tore at her hair in a furious roar but felt no pain. She was no longer among the living.

After wailing for a long time, she finally looked toward her daughter, Bai Wei. Her eyes filled with a mixture of confusion, rage, and agony. How could my own daughter say those things about me? Did I do all of this for myself? How could my daughter's heart be so cold and unfeeling?

"Daughter! Daughter! Come out!" Mrs. Bai screamed at her daughter's corpse, her voice bone-chilling.

After howling for some time, Mrs. Bai suddenly looked toward the dining table. She was startled to see Bai Wei sitting there, staring blankly at the array of empty plates. It was as if she were pondering why she had become this sort of existence.

"Mom, I'm so hungry!" Bai Wei suddenly turned to look at her mother, her expression still pitifully sad. "I barely ate any of the food you made before I was killed. I'm so hungry!"

"I can't cook anymore!" Mrs. Bai shook her head at Bai Wei, her expression chillingly cold. "You'll never eat my cooking again! You owe me an explanation. Why did you say those things about me? Weren't we family? Did you want me to die without any peace of mind?"

"Sigh, Mom," Bai Wei sighed softly and explained, "I only said that to save my own life! Only by staying alive could I avenge us!"

"Revenge!"

"Yes, revenge!"

The moment she heard the word "revenge," Mrs. Bai seemed to go mad. Bloody marks welled up on her face, her eyes turned blood-red, and a thick, murderous aura emanated from her. She grabbed Bai Wei, and they drifted unsteadily out of the villa, searching everywhere for any trace of their killer. But after a long search, they found nothing.

"Whoa, it's suddenly so cold!" A passerby happened to brush past Mrs. Bai and her daughter. Of course, he couldn't see them. He just pulled his collar tighter and walked on.

Mrs. Bai watched the passerby, her blood-red eyes fixed on him in thought.

Suddenly, she pulled Bai Wei along and rushed toward Su Xuan's home.

If we can't find the murderer, we'll go after Su Xuan. We'll haunt him, drive him to his death! That will ease our torment somewhat. After all, isn't he the reason we died in the first place?

At that moment, Su Xuan was already fast asleep...
