"Thief!"
Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie immediately assumed the person climbing over the wall was a thief. After all, not only was the individual scaling the wall, but they also had their face covered with a black cloth, looking every bit the part of a bandit bent on robbery!
"He's a friend," Su Xuan said, raising a hand to stop them.
"Master Su, I've arrived!"
The person walked straight up to Su Xuan and removed the cloth from their face, revealing Du Zilong of Du's Tai Chi. He had come as Su Xuan had instructed.
"So you've come," Su Xuan said. "But why cover your face?"
"Those of us who roam the martial world do everything with a touch of professionalism," Du Zilong replied.
"Er... have a seat!" Su Xuan gestured toward the tea table and personally poured a cup of tea for him.
"Master Su, who are these two?"
After sitting down, Du Zilong had intended to get straight to business, but he glanced at Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie and decided to hold his tongue for the moment.
"These two are just like you," Su Xuan said flatly.
"Like me?" Du Zilong took a sip of tea, somewhat confused.
"They're my enemies," Su Xuan said with a quirk of his lips.
"Oh."
Du Zilong still couldn't understand. If they were enemies, why were they sitting together drinking tea? But then, his own mouth twitched. Wasn't he doing the exact same thing?
"I am Du Zilong, Sect Leader of Du's Tai Chi," he said, introducing himself to the pair.
"Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie of the Five Poisons Sect," they replied in kind.
They had seen Du Zilong once before, on the night he had brought a group of his followers to cause trouble for Su Xuan.
"May I ask what feud you two have with Master Su?" Du Zilong asked.
"He beat our junior brother into a vegetative state," the two of them said, glancing at Su Xuan as they told him what had happened to Zhai Defeng.
"And you?" they asked Du Zilong in turn. They knew he had come looking for trouble but didn't know the exact reason.
"I..." Du Zilong found it difficult to explain the whole truth, so he kept it brief. "One of my sect members, who was also my younger cousin, is suspected to have been killed by Master Su."
"Oh," the two nodded.
Then they all fell silent.
Seeing the trio's behavior, Su Xuan couldn't help but feel an urge to laugh. His enemies were all sitting together and drinking tea so obediently. It was actually quite amusing.
"Master Su!" A moment later, Du Zilong couldn't hold back any longer. "If you weren't the one who killed Yuan Zheng, then please tell me who the real murderer is! That way, I can get my revenge, and you can clear your name!"
"I'd love to tell you," Su Xuan said, taking a sip of tea and looking Du Zilong in the eyes, "but I don't have any concrete evidence. What if I just named someone for you to take revenge on, and it turned out to be the wrong person?"
Then did I come here for nothing? Annoyance began to bubble up inside Du Zilong.
"Let me ask you," Su Xuan said to him unexpectedly. "Do you have enemies?"
"Of course!" Du Zilong answered without hesitation. "Those of us in the martial world are constantly vying for fame and profit. How could we not have enemies?"
"I have enemies too, and quite a few," Su Xuan sighed, looking around his vast courtyard. "As I've grown wealthier, the number of people I've offended, intentionally or not, has only increased. You three are just a small fraction of them."
As he spoke, he couldn't help but recall what Dongfang Hao had told him. Dongfang Hao said that the wealth in this world is finite; if you earn more, others earn less, and your enemies will appear naturally. He hadn't really believed it before, but now he was utterly convinced.
"You mean..." Du Zilong was no fool. After a moment of thought, he understood Su Xuan's implication. "The one who killed Yuan Zheng might be one of your enemies, or one of mine?"
"That's about the size of it," Su Xuan nodded. "So you'd better figure it out first."
"We don't need to go through all that trouble!" Du Zilong said after some thought. "Just tell me who your enemies are, and I'll use the process of elimination!"
*Yo!*
Both Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie looked up at Du Zilong.
What a scientific approach!
"This isn't the Jianghu, after all," Su Xuan said with a smile, shaking his head. "Here, you really do need evidence for everything."
"In my eyes, this *is* the Jianghu!" Du Zilong declared, picking up his cup and taking a large gulp of tea. "Wherever there are people, there is Jianghu!"
*Yo!*
Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie looked up at Du Zilong once again.
That saying is so appropriate right now!
"Someone may have already seen the murderer," Su Xuan stated plainly, no longer wanting to argue with Du Zilong.
"Who?" Du Zilong's eyes narrowed instantly.
"Them," Su Xuan said, squinting as he looked toward Zhao Ling and Wei Haojie.
"Did you two really see something?" Du Zilong hastily asked them.
"Uhh..." The two of them glanced at each other, a flicker of understanding passing between them.
Su Xuan had just mentioned finding them a money-making job. Could this be it?
"Sect Leader Du, we did see something that night," Zhao Ling said, a smile spreading across his face as he picked up the teapot and refilled Du Zilong's cup.
"What did you see?" Du Zilong asked in a deep voice.
"We saw..." Zhao Ling scratched his head. "Ah, how come I can't seem to remember all of a sudden? Could it be because I haven't been eating properly these last couple of days?"
"What about you?" Du Zilong quickly turned to Wei Haojie.
"I haven't eaten well either. My brain's a little fuzzy," Wei Haojie added, his acting clearly not as convincing as Zhao Ling's.
Damn it! Du Zilong cursed inwardly. He knew exactly what they were up to. He felt around in his pockets, pulled out over a thousand yuan in cash, and slapped it on the tea table. "Do you remember now?"
"When you and your men left Brother Su Xuan's house, I saw two people sneaking along behind you," Zhao Ling said, scooping up the money from the table. He counted it and handed half to Wei Haojie.
"What did they look like? Did you get a clear look?" Du Zilong asked, clenching his fists.
If it was really as Zhao Ling said, then Su Xuan obviously wasn't the one who killed Du Yuanzheng!
"It was too dark, so I didn't see them very clearly," Zhao Ling said, scratching his head again. "But then again, maybe I did get a good look... I'm not so sure..."
Damn it! Du Zilong cursed inwardly again. He patted himself down but couldn't find any more cash. Reluctantly, he slapped his phone down on the tea table.
"Wow, the latest iPhone!" Zhao Ling exclaimed, reaching for it.
"I'm not giving you the phone!" Du Zilong's mouth twitched. "Tell me what those two people look like, and I'll transfer the money to you! I'm out of cash!"
"Oh, so that's how it is." Zhao Ling reluctantly put the phone back down, then took out his own and opened his payment code.
Du Zilong's mouth twitched again as he transferred another thousand yuan to Zhao Ling.
"Although I can't describe what they look like, I would definitely recognize them the moment I saw them!" Zhao Ling affirmed.
"Very good!" Du Zilong took another large gulp of tea and said, "Please, help me find the murderers. There will be a handsome reward for you afterward!"
「Meanwhile」
Madam Bai, who was lying in bed whispering secrets to her daughter Bai Wei, suddenly sneezed...
