This is driving me insane. That one sentence was the only thing occupying Hajin’s head. When he opened his eyes and pushed a hand against his spinning head to sit up, he clicked his tongue quietly as he realized his body ached all over. Because of that pointlessly vivid dream, it still felt like the tear-choked voice of that man was circling around him; he blinked a few more times with his vision still cloudy, and a blurry outline of someone came into view. Before he could see clearly, the person wrapped their arms around him in a sudden hug, and he let out a small, “Ugh,” at the pressure, but if they heard it, they gave no sign, only tightening their grip.He let out a short sigh and blinked a few times more, and his surroundings finally started to come into focus more than before.A hospital bed, an IV stand, a space smeared all over in white. When he thought that it was no different from the girl’s room, only then did a memory graze past him.Right after waking from that meaningless dream, when he’d opened his eyes, all he could see was darkness again. He’d wondered if he still hadn’t woken up from the dream and was about to close his eyes once more, but as air chilled enough to freeze him to the bone wrapped around his bare skin and set his body shaking, he finally realized it was reality. And once he realized that much, he also noticed that he was lying there completely naked, and with a short curse he’d tried to move, but the cramped space didn’t even allow for that, only stoking his irritation.Bang! Pouring all that irritation into his fist, he’d slammed it into the surface at his side that he assumed was a wall, and the sound echoed on the inside. The noise left even his own ears ringing, but he didn’t stop—bang, bang!—he pounded several more times, and at some point he’d felt movement from outside. Just when the flustered-sounding commotion drew closer and closer, the space he was lying in suddenly lifted upward.Blinded by the burst of light that abruptly filled his vision, he squeezed his eyes shut on reflex; when he opened them again after a moment, he saw people staring down at him in shock. He’d wanted to say, What are you staring at like that, but his consciousness was swallowed up again by the wave of pain that crashed into him in an instant. Whatever. Next time I wake up, I just hope I’m not naked, he’d thought, and with that last blurry scrap [N O V E L I G H T] of vision, the darkness had come in again. After that, his consciousness had continued in flickers, blinking on and off like a fluorescent light. He’d felt that there were people constantly staying by his side, and he’d been sure it had to be the kids working under him, but when he saw that the one hugging him was a man, and the others, all men as well, were standing around the bed looking down at him with worry or with relief, he had the feeling this might be different from what he thought.“Hey, you son of a bitch, seriously, I knew it—I knew you were just putting on another show, you fuck….”“…?”“I knew you’d get up….”Yeah, you knew and you’re amazing, sure. With not a shred of spirit in it, Hajin agreed inwardly as he set his mind to work. Honestly, waking up only to be hugged by some guy and hear words he couldn’t tell were cursing or concern wasn’t exactly pleasant, but he wasn’t fully back in his right mind yet, and he was already sick of someone who started crying the moment they looked at him, so he just let his body go limp like he was a spectator. But the man’s words didn’t stop.“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything. You’re good at mouthing off. Say something, huh? Did something get messed up in there or what?”The stream of words only came to an end thanks to the gentle-looking man who had been watching Hajin with a soft, relieved gaze right up until then.“Enough, Euihyun. Sihyeon just woke up.”“Yeah, he’s right. From the look on his face, Sihyeon’s totally out of it right now….”Maybe the words got through, because the man who’d been suffocating him in that frustrating hug finally pulled away, and only then able to breathe comfortably, Hajin leaned back slightly and rested against the head of the bed. He felt like he could live again. But who the hell are these guys, just spewing nonsense like this. When he turned his head and looked around, he could see four men surrounding his bed.The man who’d been hugging him was still muttering rough complaints under his breath, but he couldn’t take his eyes off Hajin. The one beside him, patting his shoulder as if to calm him down, was clearly the gentle-looking man from a moment ago. The man standing silently next to them was tall, with a blank face that made it impossible to tell what he was thinking. Lastly, the man who’d been watching him with worried puppy eyes from the left side reached out and quietly stroked the back of Hajin’s hand before taking it in both of his own, holding on tight as if relieved. In short, they were all complete strangers.“…What the hell is this….”His voice slipped out without thinking, and the sound of it was so unfamiliar that Hajin brought a hand to his own throat. The feel of the skin there was soft.“Your head’s all over the place, right? Does anything hurt? You’ve just woken up after a week, Sihyeon.”“You could’ve woken up sooner—what the hell were you sleeping like the dead for, huh? I almost lost it from how annoying it was.”“There he goes again, saying things he doesn’t mean. Euihyun’s the one who was the most worried, Sihyeon. Wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t leave your side—we had such a hard time because of him, seriously….”“Hey, when the fuck did I do that!”“Hyung, does your throat hurt? Should I get you some water?”Watching the two start bickering mid-sentence, Hajin saw the puppy-like one look worried as he noticed him holding his neck and asked carefully. Now that he thought about it, his throat did feel dry, and he was about to nod when a glass of water appeared in front of him first. When he raised his head and looked, it was the tall, expressionless man who’d been standing off to the side. The water bottle was set a bit away from the bed, but from the way he’d gone straight over to get it the moment Hajin reached for his throat, it seemed he’d moved right away. For someone who looked like he wouldn’t bat an eye even if somebody dropped dead in front of him, the delicate consideration didn’t suit him at all; Hajin gave him a small thank-you with his eyes and took the glass, draining it to the last drop. When he sat there holding out the empty glass, the man silently took it back and put it in its place again. As Hajin quietly watched that, a voice called from beside him.“Hyung? Sihyeon-hyung?”Okay, so seriously now…“Who’s ‘Sihyeon’ supposed to be.”“Huh…? What?”“And who the hell are you people.”“Hey, Lee Sihyeon… you’ve lost your damn mind, haven’t you?”“You don’t seem that out of it, but why are you talking down to me like that from the jump.”He frowned as he looked at the guy who, no matter how he saw it, couldn’t be more than his early twenties. To be honest, it wasn’t like it pissed him off that much, but it was strange—he didn’t really have any memory of ever being spoken to informally. Or of anyone addressing him so casually. That was the kind of world Hajin had lived in. A world where rank came before age. No matter how green some kid was, if they outranked him, he had to bow his head, and that very green kid, more often than not, had been Hajin himself. Even if it wasn’t something he’d wanted, that was how he’d lived.“Does your head hurt?”Worried that he was sitting there silent and sunk in his thoughts, a gentle hand came up to touch his forehead.“No fever. Sihyeon, do you really not remember anything?”“…………”“Don’t worry, you only just woke up… that’s probably all it is. There was a bad accident. You were hurt really badly, and everyone’s been worried sick.”“…I’ll go get the doctor.”I remember everything. It was just that there was no such name as “Sihyeon” in those memories, nor any trace of these people. As he watched the man with the low, gentle voice calmly explaining the situation, he saw the expressionless man from before head quickly out of the room, saying he would get the doctor. Hajin let out a short sigh. He shouldn’t be lying around here like this; he needed to get back as soon as possible. He had to find out how Daejun was doing, and there were still one or two important deals left unresolved. But the atmosphere was such that he doubted anyone would listen if he tried saying it, and he was just thinking it would be faster to leave the room on his own and figure things out when he went to move his body and—Throb. A burning pain in his left leg stopped him in place. It hadn’t hurt at all a moment ago. He quickly flung back the sheets and yanked up the loose hospital pants covering his leg, and what he saw was a leg that looked perfectly fine on the surface.Well, on the surface.…?What the hell is this white, well-shaped leg supposed to be.Blinking, Hajin stared at the smooth leg laid bare and fell into thought. Now that he looked, his fingers were also strangely white and slender. He’d been too out of it earlier and let it pass, but his voice, when it came out, was closer to a clear tenor than anything like his usual one. What is this. As a chill suddenly ran down his spine, he ignored the worried questions asking what was wrong and hurriedly climbed down from the bed.No way. What is this, a movie shoot? With the leg that now didn’t feel any pain at all, he strode quickly over and yanked open the door that looked like it led to the bathroom.“Ha….”A slender, pale face. The eyelids, reddened as if damp, were lightly double-lidded, giving him a faintly sensual look. His straight nose bridge, lips that seemed just full enough—everything about them was so handsome that his looks were almost unearthly.Ah, fuck.Hajin knew this face.“Begging me to only look after your little sister, you crazy bastard….”That face, which hadn’t been able to stop crying right up to the very end and had forced out a forlorn smile. The man from the dream was staring back at him from the mirror, looking just as dumbfounded as he felt.
