“Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!”Several cursed projectiles landed on a corner of the city wall, and magical corruption spread like vines. A section of the wall finally collapsed with a crash.A breach had appeared.“Charge! Take it!” Barnes roared, his voice cutting through the battlefield. The Snowsworn forces poured through the breach like a flood. The defending knights immediately met them in battle, attempting to seal the breach. But they soon discovered that the Snowsworn’s formation was advancing flawlessly.A Formal Knight charged with his sword raised, but in the next second, he was impaled through his armor by a long spear and flung from his horse. He struggled to get up, only to be directly run through the chest by a second spear, pinning him to the flagstones. As the battle line continuously advanced, screams came from both flanks. Wolf cavalry had circled around to cut in, tearing open the street defenses. The knight units guarding the streets attempted to block them at the alley entrance, but they were crushed within minutes, leaving only the sound of iron boots treading on corpses amidst the flames of the street. The most desperate fighting was on the east side of the main gate.A veteran Northern Knight Order stationed there was caught in a chaotic melee. Initially, their formation was solid, and they could still organize counterattacks. But their next enemies were a group of extremely fast Snowsworn warriors, like wild dogs darting out of the darkness. No commands, no formations. They said nothing, yet their actions were synchronized: pounce, slit throats, dismember.A knight had just cut down an opponent, only to turn and be stabbed in the back by a short blade from behind, unable to utter a sound.“Maintain formation! Those are Mad Wolf Warriors!” a knowledgeable captain shouted, exhausted, but no one heard him clearly.More people were tackled in the street corners, dragged into the shadows of the flames. The screams on the battlefield grew more numerous, but all were short and swift. As if those knights had never existed.Within minutes, the entire position was cleared, blood staining the ground, carrying a fishy smell. The last resistance was extinguished at the city gate. The Empire’s knights began to rout. And the Snowsworn continued to advance, like silent reapers, closing in inch by inch from the fog.In the firelight, the Empire’s flag finally fell.“Hahahahahahaha!”Barnes stood at the edge of the ruins, looking up as the tattered golden-red cloth was engulfed by flames, his laughter ecstatic. The Imperial army’s defenses couldn't hold for even an hour. The resistance was like a piece of paper set ablaze, burning briefly before turning to ash. With the main street breached and the inner city defenses collapsing, Snow Eagle City was officially declared fallen.Knights, deprived of command, fled in panic, while nobles, utterly devoid of dignity, scrambled to escape outside the city, even trampling over their fallen retainers to save themselves.“Don’t stop me! I’m a Viscount! I’m an Imperial noble!”“I can pay! I have gold!”Wails and shouts mingled in the blood and fire, but the Snowsworn remained silent, only continuing their slaughter. In front of the main hall ruins, Viscount Fischer stumbled forward, his face full of fawning, blocking Barnes’s path.“Your Excellency! It’s me! Fischer! I was the one who sent out the Snow Eagle City defense map!”He thumped his chest, speaking urgently: “I personally delivered that map! Without me, how could you have been so successful?”Barnes narrowed his eyes, a nearly delighted expression appearing on his face as he looked at him.“It’s you!” He laughed as he walked closer, placing a hand on Fischer’s shoulder, “What a good dog.”Viscount Fischer’s eyes showed a hint of wild joy at his words, and his body stopped trembling.“You deserve a reward,” Barnes said with a smile.Fischer was about to respond when a silver light suddenly flashed.“A quick reward.”The long blade had already fallen. The Viscount’s head rolled into a pool of blood, a look of triumph still frozen on his face, forever fixed there.Meanwhile, on the other side, by the alleyways in the west of the city, Baron Zachary led his remaining knights scrambling out of a side gate.Though only one in ten of his knights remained. After scrambling over the last defensive line, he finally leaped onto his horse and looked back at the burning city.Flames consumed Snow Eagle City’s towers, emitting thick black smoke and distant screams that could be heard from afar.“Where there’s life, there’s hope. It’s good to be alive.”He let out a long breath, filled with the relief of surviving a catastrophe, then galloped away into the distance.Fearing that if he ran any slower, he would be cut down by a Snowsworn blade. In other directions, the blockade outside the city had already been set up.The Snowsworn had blocked off alleys, city gates, and sewers one by one, even setting up ambushes at secret passages.A few noble family guards broke through the encirclement, but more were directly cut down in the chaos.Wails, pleas for mercy, and blood mingled with thick smoke and lingering fires. The entire Snow Eagle City had become a slaughterhouse. The city was indefensible. On one side of the battlefield, Viscount Webster, clad in damaged plate armor, stood amidst the shattered walls and ruins, blood trickling from his temple, down his jaw, and onto his cloak. He gazed at the tide-like enemy forces surging forward, his hand on his sword hilt, his eyes as firm as iron.He issued his final orders to the remaining knights:“First squad, escort little Firth to break through. Go as far as you can.”“Second squad, set fire to the granary and treasury. Those sons of bitches won’t get anything.”“Third squad!” He paused, his gaze sweeping towards the Mad Wolf Warriors charging from afar, “Follow me! To block those wild dogs.”The knights said not another word, mounting their horses, drawing their swords, and breaking out in different directions. And Viscount Webster gripped the war blade in his hand, took a deep breath, and suddenly stepped forward. The next moment, the ground shook with a roar, and shattered stones flew!Battle aura erupted fiercely, a conspicuous azure glow tearing through the mist, carving a chasm across the night sky.Viscount Webster drew his sword, his figure transforming into a streak of azure light, instantly cleaving through the bone armor and throats of three Mad Wolf Warriors in front of him.“Follow me and kill!!!”His personal guard knights roared, following closely behind. But he was simply too fast, like a bolt of azure lightning, he single-handedly charged into the enemy ranks. The Mad Wolf Warriors were fierce and frenzied, but before him, they fell one after another like straw.Someone thrust a long spear, and he turned to sever their arm.Several people lunged with chaotic blades, he repelled them with his battle aura, and with a backhand strike, he cut three of them in half at the waist!Sweat and blood mingled as he fought alone against dozens, pushing forward, like a dying but proud lion.He even once broke through the Mad Wolf formation, directly approaching Barnes’s location, his sword light closing in.But as time passed, the elderly extraordinary knight’s battle aura continuously weakened, his wounds accumulated, and he was covered in blood.Until the final blow severed his knee, and he knelt in the shattered street.Behind him were the burned granary and the fallen alleys. Before him was the black tide of the Snowsworn and their roars echoing across the sky.He looked up at the Imperial Dragon Flag trampled into the mud, his chest heaving violently, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.“Old brother… I’m sorry…” he murmured, his voice as low as the wind, “I just hope that child… can escape…”His eyelids slowly drooped, and the last of his battle aura quietly extinguished ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ on his sword’s edge.
