The Cockroach-like Girl Is My Beast

Chapter 129: Exposed

Before awakening his Innate Wisdom, Lin Guang wasn't into games much and couldn't recognize the brand of the console, but he did know the game that started up. Simply put, it was this world's "Super Mario Party." Even if you couldn't read Daxia characters, you could play without issues. Vishdair initially mocked it as a kid's game, but seeing Miao Miao and Lin Guang having fun, she clamored to join the battle.

Perhaps due to beginner's luck, she really became the superstar (first place) in the Monopoly mode without fully understanding the rules.

About an hour later, Lin Guang got up and walked into the kitchen. Miao Miao originally wanted to help, but he forcefully pushed her out.

Just sitting there seemed a bit boring, so Miao Miao glanced at Vishdair, who was sitting cross-legged on the sofa. Her eyes twinkled, and she suddenly picked up Lily, who had also been driven out of the kitchen, and floated over like a butterfly, sitting beside Vishdair, startling her. Vishdair squinted her eyes, looking at Miao Miao a bit warily.

Miao Miao held Lily in one hand, pointed at herself with the other, and grinned like a crescent moon. Speaking as if to a three-year-old, she said syllable by syllable: "Miao— Miao—"

You think I'm stupid?

For a moment, Vishdair wanted to make a classic hand gesture.

But after twitching her eye corners, she forcibly restrained herself, merely pursed her lips, and said her name fluently in Daxia Language: "Vishdair."

"Ah, so you can speak Daxia Language!"

"...Just a bit." She replied, her pronunciation not as standard as when she said her own name.

To survive on the battlefield of Kazdail, sharp Observation Power is a must.

Although Vishdair was allergic to reading and writing, she had been immersed in a Daxia language environment for so long after crossing over, naturally learning quite a bit of spoken language. However, she still needed to translate the sounds in her mind to Terra Language, so her responses were often a bit slow, making her seem like an idiot. Plus, with Lin Guang by her side, she gave up talking to others.

"That's not true, I understand you very well. How long have you been learning?"

"A little over two months."

"Then you're learning really fast."

"...Really?"

"Yeah! Aren't you understanding what I'm saying?"

Under Miao Miao's deliberate guidance, Vishdair didn't notice that these were the most basic conversations, the kind that would appear in any language textbook. Speaking sentence by sentence, the atmosphere quickly warmed up, and from the kitchen, Lin Guang looked over to see the two of them looking like best friends who'd known each other for years, nearly startling him.

Soon after, lunch was ready.

There were four home-style dishes and one soup: stir-fried sweet potato leaves, string beans with bacon, cola chicken wings, sweet and sour pork, and bitter melon soy rib soup. It looked simple, but the ingredients were not - they were Spiritual Flesh and Spiritual Vegetables, averaging Levels 5-6, suitable for human consumption, boasting color, aroma, and taste.

Miao Miao looked at the dishes on the table in surprise: "I thought when you said you could cook, it was just instant noodles or scrambled eggs with tomatoes, didn't expect it to be this abundant."

"Just this?" Vishdair also turned her head to glance at it, a bit discontentedly mumbling, "Not even enough to fill the gaps in my teeth."

These two sentences weren't "translated" through the Equal Contract and Heart of Terra, which surprised Lin Guang as he glanced at her. This was Vishdair actively using Daxia Language to communicate for the first time; he remembered griping about this point with Miao Miao before.

Lin Guang instinctively looked at Miao Miao beside her, and sure enough, she was quietly making a V-sign.

"..."

Though he didn't know what had happened between them, it was obvious that poor Vishdair had been toyed with by Miao Miao.

"Don't worry, the main course isn't out yet."

With that, Lin Guang brought out a sliced roasted hump, a spicy grilled Fire Pattern Fish favored by dogs, and a nutrient solution liked by Plant Spirit Beasts.

"Even Little Ball has its share. Haha, thanks~."

Miao Miao took the pet bowl Lin Guang handed over with her right hand, unconsciously placing her left hand on her chest. A flash of light appeared, and the Wind-rolling Cactus showed up at her feet. Its spines contracted instantly, sensing the presence of the nutrient solution, it rolled anxiously back and forth by her legs.

As soon as Miao Miao set the bowl down, it eagerly rolled itself into it, soaking in the nutrient solution like in a hot spring.

"Meep meep meep~"

Lily crouched on the dining table, restlessly stepping with her front paws, tempted by the grilled fish's aroma. Seeing Lin Guang taking forever to say "dig in," she was getting a bit impatient.

Finally, all three humans and one fox took their seats at the (on the) table and began lunch.

Miao Miao placed a piece of fish in her mouth, biting down; the taste was fresh and savory, crispy on the outside and tender inside, making her eyes widen.

"For real? Even the taste is this good? How can you even cook so well, were you not from a novel?"

"At least during meals, calm your wild mind a bit."

After eating and drinking, Miao Miao helped Lin Guang clean the dishes and tableware, and the three of them sat on the sofa and started playing video games again. Thanks to Miao Miao's previous icebreaking, the atmosphere was lively, and they enjoyed the games thoroughly.

As the sun gradually set into the Red Sea, it was the alarm that finally pulled Lin Guang back to reality.

He looked up at the wall clock; the hour hand was pointing to six.

"Sorry, we played a bit late."

Lin Guang scratched his cheek, enjoying games himself, reignited by the awakening of Innate Wisdom and the thrill of "becoming stronger." It had been a while since he played, and he just couldn't resist.

"It's all good, I had great fun too." Miao Miao also smiled, revealing two pure and cute dimples.

"How about staying for dinner?" Lin Guang suggested. "Oh, maybe you should call your parents first? It's about the time they'd be worried."

"..."

Was it Lin Guang's illusion, or did the youthful, sweet smile on Miao Miao's face stiffen for an instant?

"I'll call them later."

Not overthinking it, Lin Guang got up and went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

After the meal and seeing Miao Miao off, Lin Guang advised Vishdair: "Don't stay up on your phone tonight, get some rest. We have to get up early for the Secret Realm tomorrow."

The young girl casually gave an OK gesture and headed to her room.

"Meep?"

Lily suddenly jumped onto Lin Guang's shoulder, meeping with a hint of confusion.

Patting Lily's small head, Lin Guang was amazed at its Spirituality, saying, "We're going out tomorrow, probably not back by night. Would you like to come with us?"

"...Meep!"

Lily's face visibly showed hesitation, with her big ears pricking backward. But in the end, she mustered her courage and nodded.

Late at night, the entrance of Haiyue District.

A man in a black cloak stared at the silent district. A small flower stubbornly rooted in the gap of a wall swayed without breeze. A hint of joy flashed through his eyes before turning sinister as he said, somewhat through gritted teeth:

"Finally found you."

"I'm going to personally..."

Before he could finish, a flashlight beam appeared not far away, belonging to the night patrolling Great Xia police. He snorted and vanished into the night.
