Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 101: The Death of Count Jermaine

Accompanied by a flash of light, Wu Chang and Erin walked into the Count's Manor.

Guided by the Starlight Lighthouse, the special barrier surrounding the Count's Manor easily dissipated without offering any resistance.

The barrier that protected Jermaine Manor was so easily broken that it's hard not to speculate whether this was a contingency left by Ebert.

After entering the manor, the Divine Envoy, as the host, quickly appeared before the two.

Compared to observing the Divine Envoy through the resentment of two plump players, what Wu Chang saw with his own eyes was clearer and richer in detail.

In the eyes of the two deceased senior players of the Deep Water Society, the image of the Divine Envoy was like a 270P ancient art film from an island nation, with already unclear quality and key parts all mosaicked.

They could only see a shadow, unable to discern anything within it.

But Wu Chang was different, with an Inspiration of 92 points, he directly enhanced the image quality of the Divine Envoy to 4K, easily seeing the true face of the Divine Envoy.

The image of the Divine Envoy was a mass of bloodied and shapeless human flesh, its limbs twisted and wounds ghastly, clearly having suffered great trauma before death.

From within the flesh, a tattered garment could be vaguely seen, a regal robe which, despite being torn and stained with blood, still showed its expensive fabric and exquisite craftsmanship through its patterns and tailoring.

Only the upper class, the real nobility, could afford to wear such clothing.

In Briff, there were not many who met these conditions, so it was easy to deduce that the Divine Envoy was none other than Count Jermaine.

Just as in the resentment, the Divine Envoy began summoning Stone Ghosts to attack the two.

Due to Wu Chang's high Good and Evil Value, the Divine Envoy only summoned three Stone Ghosts, making the scene quite pathetic.

Wu Chang's True Self didn't even bother to enter Giant Whale Transformation and casually struck the Stone Ghosts with three Palm Thunders.

The ultra-yang and ultra-rigid Thunder Technique was the nemesis of these low-level spirits, and the Stone Ghosts turned to gravel in the light of the lightning, not even surviving past their entrance cutscene.

With the Stone Ghosts incapacitated, the Divine Envoy began summoning Falling Rocks.

Originally as large as human heads with tremendous power, the Falling Rocks were reduced to the size of eggs when reaching Wu Chang.

This time, Wu Chang didn't even need to act. Erin murmured two prayers, raising a Holy Light Shield above their heads, easily neutralizing the Falling Rocks.

The revived Erin, synergizing with the prayers of the Great Saint Mother, could be considered an all-around support.

She could erect shields, remove abnormal status, and use Holy Light to restore life.

There's nothing more reassuring than having a powerful healer standing behind you.

And when this powerful healer is just toiling selflessly, without seeking any experience or rewards, it's not an exaggeration to call her a surrogate mother.

In terms of player strength, Erin's abilities were several times stronger than Spirit Fox, who was also a support, with stats close to those of a Level Seventeen or Eighteen player.

Her participation was an implicit reward for completing the Hidden Side Quest.

The Falling Rocks summoned by the Arrogant Divine Envoy continued for three minutes, and despite incessant bombardment, they didn't even break the first shield summoned by Erin.

This left Wu Chang a bit disappointed with the Arrogant Divine Envoy. As the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, its capability was somewhat underwhelming.

Sensing the threat posed by Wu Chang and Erin, the Arrogant Divine Envoy didn't fight desperately but instead turned and fled into the main house.

Wu Chang was not in a hurry to take down the Arrogant Divine Envoy. He followed with Erin, playing a game of cat and mouse as they chased into the main house.

He still needed the Divine Envoy alive to unveil more secrets of the Count's Manor.

Upon entering the main house, Wu Chang felt a slight dizziness, and simultaneously, whispered prayers sounded in his ears.

As with the situation faced by the two plump players, the enormous faceless nun on the roof used a Spiritual Skill, attempting to test his Will.

Interesting.

He deliberately relaxed his Will to listen to the nun's prayers, and soon auditory hallucinations appeared in his ears.

He heard hurried footsteps resonating from behind him, heard the townsfolk shouting curses loudly, and the sound of blunt objects smashing furniture and glass.

With a bang, the door behind him was violently kicked open.

Hundreds of townsfolk with weapons, their eyes bloodshot, appeared before Wu Chang's eyes.

The two sides stared at each other, and the atmosphere instantly became eerily silent.

The protection of Good and Evil Value, along with his Town Councilor status, prevented the townsfolk from attacking him, even in the illusion.

As if unable to see him at all, the townsfolk rushed past him, shouting and charging at the guards and servants in the distance within the Count's Manor.

From Erin's perspective, Wu Chang suddenly stopped mid-stride, turning aside to carefully listen to something, then abruptly looked towards the empty door, standing still and fully alert.

Soon after, he inexplicably relaxed, shifting his gaze from one door to another.

During this period, Erin neither heard nor saw anything.

She waved a hand in front of Wu Chang's eyes and asked, "Mr. Sekos, did you see an illusion? I can use Holy Light to dispel it for you."

Wu Chang grabbed Erin's hand that was waving in front of him, and raised his other hand with a finger to his lips, gesturing for silence.

"Follow me."

He pulled Erin along, following behind the illusions of the townsfolk, moving towards the main house.

The townsfolk shouted, "Avenge the Saintess!" "Overthrow the tyrannical rule of Jermaine!" as they angrily rampaged through the main house.

Matty, wielding a pirate scimitar, led the charge of the townsfolk at the forefront.

Anyone who appeared before him, whether guards, servants, or family members of Count Jermaine, he would strike down without hesitation.

The blood and screams stimulated the townsfolk's nerves, not calming them down but instead inciting the cruelty and bloodthirstiness deep within their bones.

The Count's Manor seemed transformed into hell, everyone associated with the Count died under the indiscriminate attacks of the townsfolk.

This included defenseless women and even children who had yet to learn to walk.

The townsfolk killed from outside to inside, finally finding Count Jermaine, sitting on the sofa holding a glass of red wine, in the main drawing room.

Count Jermaine looked at Matty, the leader of the townsfolk, and said with a hint of resignation, "Did Ebert incite you to do this? He really disappoints me."

Matty, bloodthirsty and beyond words, responded to Jermaine with his fists.

After a brutal beating, the townsfolk dragged Jermaine to the garden in front of the Count's Manor.

They used long nails to pierce through Jermaine's hands and feet, pinning him to the ground.

Then the townsfolk erected a massive execution platform, though instead of a guillotine, it featured a five-meter-high bronze statue of Count Jermaine from the manor.

The Bishop, with stitched-shut eyes, was supported out of the crowd by a nun and pronounced judgment on Jermaine.

"Arrogant one, disrespectful to the gods, brutal to others, abusing power without restraint, harming the Saintess without remorse, you shall be burdened with punishment!"

Jermaine looked sideways at the Bishop, disdainfully saying, "You think killing me will absolve you of your sins? Ridiculous."

Lies do not harm, truth is the sharp blade.

Jermaine's words, like venomous snakes, struck the sore spots of the people, and Mayor Harrison raised the axe in his hand, cutting the rope that hoisted the statue.

The massive statue crashed down, giving Count Jermaine an endearing nickname.

"Jermaine Sauce."

After executing Count Jermaine, the townsfolk did not burst into tears of joy, nor did they celebrate as if on the day of Divine Grace, rejoicing in vengeance accomplished.

Gazing at Jermaine's corpse on the ground, the townsfolk were left in a daze, confusion and fear etched on their faces.

Jermaine's rule had penetrated their souls; without Jermaine, they did not know how to continue their days.

Having killed the Saintess and murdered the Lord, how could they avoid the kingdom's retribution?

As the crowd was distraught, Ebert appeared, he led the townsfolk to seal off the Count's Manor, and then left.

The once bustling Illusion Realm was left with only Wu Chang and Jermaine's corpse.

The massive bronze statue, stained with Jermaine Sauce, detached from the base at its feet, rose from the ground, and approached Wu Chang.

The gigantic statue was imposing, like a giant of brass.

Wu Chang gathered his will, timely severing the murmured prayers in his ears.

Looking forward again, the statue's illusion vanished, leaving only the pulp-like Divine Envoy standing before him.

Wu Chang grinned and said, "A very interesting story, I enjoyed it thoroughly."

After speaking, he unleashed two Palm Thunders and had Erin follow up with a Holy Light Purification, completely dealing with the Arrogant Divine Envoy.

He found a piece inside the Arrogant Divine Envoy, engraved with a small figure burdened by a giant rock on the back.

"Item Name: Proof of Arrogance"

"Item Type: Special"

"Item Description: With the Proof of Arrogance, one can freely enter the Special Space—Dominator Manor. In the Dominator Manor area, you will be regarded as a Divine Envoy. The Divine Envoy can choose an attribute as the standard to judge the target. If the target's attribute is lower than your own, the target will be subject to the Divine Envoy's dominion."

Wu Chang put away the final sin evidence, having collected the Seven Deadly Sins, and looked up at the top of the main house, meeting the cold and unfeeling face of the enormous nun.

She sat upon the main roof, silently observing everything that happened, unmoving, like a true god, gazing down on the struggling ants below.

Pretending to be aloof, huh? Just wait.

Wu Chang looked at the seven voids in the giant nun's body and sneered.

When the time comes to fill the empty spaces within your body, don't cry and beg me to stop.
