I Will Teach You How to Hunt Gods

Chapter 15: Acting Skills

Swish——!

The sharp blade grazed the tip of the strong man's nose, leaving a tiny cut on his nostril.

The gang member swung his knife with almost full force, with the pure intention of killing.

Meanwhile, two other gang members flanked on either side, raising their knives to slash at the strong man's head.

Clearly, they had no intention of letting go of this strong man named "Jack," aiming to kill him on the spot.

The two lethal blades slashed simultaneously, causing sweat to bead on the tip of Jack's nose, and making the crowd hold their breath, even the commentary stopped, thinking Jack would perish right then...

But luckily, Jack reacted swiftly, bending backward to narrowly avoid the blade, then countered with an uppercut, hitting the gang member on the right in the ribs, sending him back several steps along with his knife.

"Good! Nice hit!"

"It should be fought like this, no...it can only be fought like this!"

Seeing this, the crowd began to cheer for Jack.

Even Yun You, watching from the side, silently joined the applause.

She had already grasped the cause of this battle from the onlooker's narration half a minute ago.

The strong man's name was "Jack Carlos," an active low-tier mercenary in the S region, reportedly someone who liked to uphold justice, frequently standing up for poor and helpless individuals, earning considerable respect in the area.

The three gang members attacking him were underlings of the local "Sardine" gang from the S1 region.

This gang controlled a small segment of the fish trading market in the underground scene, demanding protection fees from every fish-related vendor.

Today, an old woman who usually sold buns found half a bottle of fish sauce from the garbage pile next to her home, and added it to the dough water.

As a result, the thugs from the Sardine gang considered this "fish business," and came to demand protection money.

Of course, this reason was absurd, but gang members were not people who liked reasoning; they found a reason then would come over for money, refused? Then fists would follow.

The old woman was beaten within an inch of her life, seemingly about to be killed, but fortunately, Jack stepped in at the crucial moment to protect her, leading to this street fight.

From this incident, Jack's intervention was with absolute justice, even in this lawless black market, earning support from the people.

But justice does not mean victory; such scale fights would not provide Jack huge advantages.

Once the gang youths regained their composure, they could still press upon Jack using their numerical and weapon advantage.

Before long, the three regrouped, exchanged knowing glances, and simultaneously launched attacks, slicing three paths — upper, middle, and lower, blocking Jack's escape from different directions on the head, neck, and waist.

Such a ferocious offensive caused the crowd's hearts to suspend once more, and even Yun You became more serious, wanting to see how the mercenary would resolve the crisis.

Then something unexpected happened.

Jack did not dodge, nor did he choose to block head-on; instead, he lifted an elbow directly towards thug number one in front of him, the one holding the single short knife, who earlier spilled "Closed Eye Soup."

The thug only swung the knife halfway towards Jack's head, lacking force, so even if it struck Jack's elbow, it only jammed in half an inch...

Then, Jack's furious elbow slammed into thug number one's face, producing a "crack," flattening the little punk's nasal bridge.

Immediately after, Jack did not let him fall whilst covering his nose but grabbed the thug's collar, tossing him overhead to the back, using his own thigh and arm to shield against the knives of the other two thugs.

"Oh dear, can't blame me for this."

Seeing thug number one screaming wretchedly while being chopped and thug numbers two and three shocked, Jack said innocently, "You guys started with the knives."

Despite saying this, when thug number two and three realized and tried to slash forward again, this mercenary unhesitatingly threw a kick, using thug number one as a sandbag, launching him out to topple the two.

"Nice!"

The crowd instantly erupted into thunderous cheers, even Yun You couldn't help but raise her eyebrows, thinking highly of Jack for a moment.

This guy's movements were exceptionally skillful, executing them seamlessly, even having a bit of martial arts film flavor, holding against three without falling behind.

Yun You was unsure of his mercenary combat ability, but at least in street fighting, he truly had no faults to criticize.

But just as everyone was cheering for Jack, an slightly discordant voice arose behind Yun You.

"His acting is getting more real... Dumb Jack."

Hearing this strange remark, Yun You slightly froze, instinctively turning her head to look in the direction of the sound.

The speaker stood in the corner, an inconspicuous teenager.

His height didn't exceed 1.4 meters, appearing at most 13 years old, wearing a gray hoodie with large over-ear headphones, sporting short black hair with shoulder length, with a tuft of white sticking out in the center, looking rather silly.

However, the teenager's face was wrapped in white bandages, completely covering the eyes and upper part of the nose, making Yun You unable to discern his appearance, nor determine gender, nor understand how he could "see" the fight.

"Why did you use the word acting?"

Yun You lowered her voice and asked, "Did Jack not fight seriously?"

"Of course not."

The teenager tilted his head and casually replied, "At his level, dealing with three thugs should only take 1 second, yet now it's evenly matched, and there's bleeding."

"What is this if not acting?"

"If you don't believe me, go look at his arm, pay attention to the region of the brachioradialis."

Upon the teenager's reminder, Yun You curiously looked at Jack, indeed noticing a small metal buckle on his forearm.

Previously, Yun You thought it was a decoration on his biker jacket, so she didn't pay much attention.

But after observing closely, she realized this thing was no decorative item; it's clearly part of the "mechanical prosthetic" exterior extension...

As for why the reconnaissance chip didn't work probably due to distance and the crowd obscuring the view.

Though this wasn't the key point; the key point was the mercenary Jack definitely possessed prosthetic body gear.

The teenager was right, with Jack's strength, he indeed should instantly defeat the three thugs.

Because those possessing prosthetics have overwhelming advantages over those who do not.

The mechanical prosthetic's modification significantly enhances the user's physical fitness, strengthening bones and muscles to levels akin to steel.

Therefore, even without using the special ability of the prosthetic, the merely bodily modification's physical boost should suffice for Jack to crush the thugs in a second.

Samurai sword? Dagger? Those bits of broken scrap bought from a street stall, no matter how sharpened, can't compete with mechanical prosthetics.

Yet Jack displayed difficulty, proving he was definitely acting.
