Now that the witch was gone, Eira could now speak. She looked a bit panicked.
"My alpha, I think you've made a mistake. Witches aren't to be trusted! I didn't know that the powerful Veylmont clan is after you. If I did, I would've advised against contacting the witches. They'll surely leak information to the clan just to earn their favor."
Eira looked as if she was about to have a panic attack, so I beckoned her closer to me. She hesitated as she began to hyperventilate. This forced me to pull her in closer to into my lap. The moment I grabbed her, I could feel her begin to calm down a bit.
"Don't worry, I already knew the witches were going to contact the Veylmont clan as soon as I made contact with them. I already planned for it."
Eira's breathing was steady now, but it was still evident that she was worried.
"D-Does that mean you intend to fight them? Then we must be prepared and tell the others to prepare for battle. Vampires could be here at any second!"
"Don't worry, they won't be coming after me."
"Huh?!"
Eira looked completely confused by my answer.
"The witches will tell the Veylmont that I plan on coming to Purgatory. In that case, they would have no need to come here," I explained.
That was one of the reasons I contacted the witches in the first place. Doing this would stop the Veylmont clan from coming after me, at least temporarily.
"Wait! That just means that the witches and the vampires will conspire to ambush you the moment you step foot into Purgatory. Even you wouldn't be able to survive that, and I doubt the witches would allow you to bring your entire pack into Purgatory with you. At most, they would only allow you to bring a few members to the supernatural city with you."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but smile. Eira was indeed smart. I'm sure her assistance will be invaluable in the future.
She was correct. I would be ambushed the moment I stepped into Purgatory, but I had already planned for that. Though it will require me to sacrifice someone…
"Don't worry about it, Eira. I'll see to it that I won't get killed in Purgatory. I must thank you, though. Your help meant a lot. And don't worry, I'll find a place for you here."
"Really? You would really do that for me?"
"Yes, I'll find something dignified where your voice matters. I would be a fool to not make use of your talents."
"Any position helping you would be good, really!"
"Hmm…" I think I have the perfect position that would be suitable for her. "How would you like to be my assistant? You'll relay my orders to the people of my pack. You'll also offer your knowledge and help me make future plans. I need someone with a sharp mind like you."
"I would love to! This is the first time anyone has ever trusted me with anything like this! I promise I'll do my best to live up to your expectations." A bright smile appeared on her face as she nodded her head. She seemed very pleased.
Eira and I talked for a few more minutes until it was time for her to leave, but before then, it seemed as if she had thought of something.
"Oh, by the way, didn't you also say that you wanted information from the witches? Did you forget to ask?"
"No, I just decided against it."
"Oh, okay. Bye, and thank you again for everything."
After thanking me, Eira bowed her head happily and left.
"I decided against it because those witches aren't trustworthy," I mumbled to myself once I was alone.
What I wanted to ask them was about my evolution. Danzo said werewolves and other supernatural creatures evolved at level 25, but when I defeated Danzo, I ascended to level 30, and I still haven't evolved. If I can't evolve, then it means I won't be able to get stronger. Letting my enemies know that would be a bad idea. If I continue to not evolve each time I level up, then even the werewolves in my pack would surpass me.
"The Moth Queen, huh?"
I wonder what this demon is like. Danzo told me that the woman with orange eyes told him where Bloodmoths and Mothmen were hibernating so he could kill them and level up. I wonder if the woman with orange eyes and the Moth Queen have any connection to each other.
The witch also said that the Moth Queen was of the rank Greater Fiend. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. Speaking with that witch made me realize just how ignorant I was about the world and everything. My next goal is to acquire information. I'll have to find someone who holds the information I need. Maybe that person can also help me evolve.
Sigh
The pack isn't in the best position right now, so I'll have to get this handled quickly. At the very least, I'm going to need a few more months before I handle the Moth Queen situation.
Knock knock.
"Come in…"
"You look deep in thought. Should I come back another time?"
"No, it's fine. Come in, Nyra."
The person who had come to see me was none other than the chief hunter herself.
"You look well," I commented. Just a month ago, she was so close to death that I swear I could see the grim reaper standing over her. Now she looked so radiant as ever. She had cut her crimson-colored hair so it was now shoulder length. She was the same age as my mother, but looking at her, you wouldn't have guessed she was a day over 30.
Luckily, I had gotten Sylvie to cure her poison just in time. A lesser person would've died ten times over.
These days, I mostly had her running errands for me. She had been gone for a few weeks.
"Thanks to you." She smiled gratefully. "So about that thing you wanted me to check out…"
My ears naturally perked up when I heard her speak.
"Yes, from that look on your face, it looks like you got something."
"That I do." She smiled and took a seat on the chair in front of my desk. "You were right. There are other settlements in the area..."
