SSS Class Mythic Beast Master

Chapter 188: Office Talk (2)

Klaus leaned forward slightly, his interest evident in the way his fingers drummed once against the desk. "Try it on and tell us how it feels."

Reinhard examined the glove for another moment before slipping it over his right hand and masking his Beast Symbol. The leather was impossibly soft, conforming to his hand like a second skin.

No stiffness, no awkward bunching at the knuckles, it fit perfectly, and as if tailored specifically for him. He flexed his fingers experimentally, watching the material move without resistance.

"It feels extremely comfortable." Reinhard said, turning his hand over to examine the symbol embroidered on the back of it. The black swirling circle with its golden halo seemed to shimmer slightly in the office light.

Klaus smiled in satisfaction. "This will block anyone from being able to see your Beast Symbol. Even those with the ability to see through objects or sense magic won't detect the changes around your hand."

Reinhard's eyebrows rose slightly, that was more impressive than he'd initially thought. He nodded, having his Beast Symbol visible marked him as a Beast Master, but also gave a sense of how strong he was.

In addition, this would stop anyone from noticing he had multiple Beast Spirits. They would only see Fenrir's powers as either a Mythic Key or a Beast Sigil.

Reinhard lowered his gloved hand to his lap. "Now, about the expedition?"

Rosaria sighed before crossing her arms, and her crimson eyes fixed on Reinhard with an intensity that made him want to shift in his seat. "Normally, I would have shut down your request and told the Information Institution to not even review it."

Reinhard's lips twitched as he asked. "Is it because of our luck in Mensis and Phane City?"

"It's because of your luck." Rosaria said bluntly, her gaze didn't waver. "Marie and Joseph went on other expedition missions while you were sleeping, and they haven't run into anything absurd like when they were with you for Mensis and Phane City."

Reinhard blinked before his head turned slightly toward Klaus, seeking confirmation. "That can't be right... Can it?"

Klaus chuckled, though he looked away, studying something on his desk with sudden interest. "All we can say is, as expected of an SSS Beast Spirit!"

Reinhard's eyebrow twitched, and then he rubbed his temple while sighing. "Alright. I see your point. My luck is crap, and I seem to attract terrifying incidents-"

"When you just became a Beast Master." Rosaria interjected, raising one eyebrow.

Reinhard glanced away, unable to meet her gaze as he couldn't argue with her logic. Two major incidents in his first real missions as a Beast Master, both of which had involved Sinners, mass casualties, and near-impossible circumstances.

When stated so plainly, the pattern was astounding to anyone who heard it.

"Then why are you allowing the mission?" Reinhard asked, turning back to face them both. "I'm assuming you are, considering how you started this conversation. Unless you plan to ban me from joining them?"

Klaus laughed before shaking his head, silver chain glinting across his chest. "As if Marie and Joseph would still go without you. Heck, I'm sure those two would probably sneak you on the mission and face the consequences afterward with a grin."

Rosaria sighed deeply, one hand coming up to pinch the bridge of her nose. "Don't remind me. I could already see their minds thinking of a plan to get Reinhard on the mission when they thought I planned to ban him." She lowered her hand, expression caught between exasperation and something almost fond. "It's both annoying and a bit amusing, considering how little time you've actually spent together."

Reinhard's eyes softened as his fingers curled slightly against the armrest. "Going through multiple life-and-death situations, plus facing multiple terrifying incidents, tends to bring people extremely close. So I've heard."

Klaus laughed again while Rosaria nodded, her expression acknowledging the truth of his words. "Well, you're living proof of that." She straightened slightly, arms still crossed. "Regardless, I'm not banning you from the mission. As you'll be accompanied by a First Class Beast Master, Brunhilde."

Reinhard blinked before his eyes widened in understanding. "Is that one of the reasons for letting me go? Because Brunhilde-"

Klaus nodded, his grin returning with full force. "Indeed. She stated, and I quote, that she won't do a mission without Reinhard, who she is required to protect and guard."

Rosaria sighed again, though this time it carried notes of resignation. "It's annoying because she looked so earnest when she said that. And I can't deny that with her going along, at the very least, you won't die or need a miracle to survive."

Klaus chuckled, leaning back in his chair, and the leather creaked softly. "Brunhilde can be considered one of the strongest people in Hesod. From her own words, she ranks high among the Sinners."

Reinhard blinked in surprise, but then his mind flashed back to how easily Brunhilde had crushed them during their confrontation. He nodded slowly and asked. "So with Brunhilde, we can go to Eastern Hesod?"

Rosaria nodded once. "You'll have three days to prepare. The team will be you, Marie, Joseph, and another teammate who is from a town in Eastern Hesod-"

Reinhard's eyes widened before interjecting. "They are? Then they'll be our guide through it?"

Rosaria nodded in approval. "Exactly. They're familiar with the conditions in the forest and can help you adapt to the changes there. They originally wanted to visit their home, but we were hesitant because we had reports of the area getting more dangerous. Even the Seekers have been having more trouble than usual."

Klaus spoke up with a faint smile. "But with a proper team and Brunhilde watching over everything, it should be safer."

Reinhard nodded, his mind already working through things. "I'm guessing we'll need letters to enter?"

"We've already contacted the Seekers ahead of time." Rosaria confirmed. "We're just waiting for confirmation. It should come by the end of the day." She paused, her crimson eyes studying him. "In the meantime, I suggest writing letters to your siblings. This expedition may take a month."

Reinhard's expression shifted slightly, and his eyes softened. "I will."

Klaus nodded. "You should get going. I'm sure Marie will visit you soon so you can talk about everything."

Reinhard stood, the chair scraping softly against the floor, and nodded to both of them. "Thank you."

He turned and made his way to the door, glancing back once to see Klaus and Rosaria already discussing something in low tones.

The door closed behind him with a soft click, and he was alone in the mahogany-paneled corridor.
