The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 308: Bought!

"Housekeeper Dai…"

"I wish you would explain why you bribed the demolition worker to increase the amount of explosives."

"To stage an accident? To cause a massive collapse so none of us would ever get out?" Chen Zheng asked, his voice incomparably cold.

He had long suspected this man was up to no good, but he never imagined such ruthlessness. To even target Liu Yumei, who considered him family!

"I… I don't know what you're talking about!"

"I don't know anything!" Dai Wushuang's gaze darted away, his face instantly turning deathly pale.

Dense beads of sweat formed on his forehead. Despite his words, these details made it hard for anyone to believe he was innocent.

"You don't know anything?" A faint smirk touched Chen Zheng's lips. He waved his hand, grabbing the demolition worker's head. "If he refuses to confess, then you can explain."

The demolition worker's face was drained of all color, and he was scared out of his wits. The reason was simple: the man gripping his hair was no different than a god.

He had already braced for death when the terrifying collapse began. Yet this man had descended like a god from the heavens, single-handedly holding back the pressure, stopping the cave-in, and leading everyone to safety. Thinking back on it now, it still felt completely surreal.

"It was Housekeeper Dai… It was all his plan…"

"He gave me a huge sum of money to deliberately miscalculate the amount of explosives, to cause a cave-in and bury everyone inside!"

"I have a terminal illness. I'm a dead man either way. I… I didn't mean anything else by it, I just wanted to leave a large sum of money for my family! I didn't want to die for nothing!" the demolition worker cried, his voice trembling and full of anguish.

He knew he couldn't hide the truth any longer. He had to confess. Otherwise, knowing Liu Yumei's personality, she would never let him off the hook.

Hearing this, Dai Wushuang roared furiously, "You damned old fool, if you want to die, don't drag me down with you! I never gave you any money, nor did I ask you to do anything so vile!"

"Is that so?" Liu Yumei's expression turned terrifyingly grim, her gaze fixed on him. "Dai Wushuang, do you really think… that with my resources, I can't find out the truth? How about I have someone investigate this right now? If it turns out you orchestrated this, I will deal with you according to our family laws. What do you say?" Liu Yumei asked coldly, her expression filled with profound disappointment.

She hated this feeling, being betrayed by one of her own. They had grown up together. The man she had always treated like a brother was actually plotting against her.

"No, no, no…"

"Sister, there must be a misunderstanding! Some mistake! He's not that kind of person. He would never hurt us!" Liu Yuling ran to Liu Yumei and pleaded desperately.

Dai Wushuang had raised her since she was a child. She couldn't accept that this was happening. It was just too unexpected.

"Yuling… You're still young. You don't understand the depths of human greed. One day, you will," Liu Yumei said, shaking her head with a bitter expression.

Truthfully, she didn't want to believe it. But the facts were laid bare before her, leaving her no choice.

"Dai Wushuang, you did everything you could to stop us. You wanted to hide the jade vein behind that wall, didn't you? If I'm not mistaken, you've already contacted a buyer. You've probably even settled on a price! You planned to take all the money for yourself once we sold the mine. I just don't understand… what amount would have been enough? Would that money really make you happier than staying with the Liu family? Why would you do this?" Liu Yumei interrogated him, still finding it impossible to believe.

"That's right! I did it all!" Dai Wushuang's face twisted as he roared. "In your Liu family… I'm just a common housekeeper! Everyone might think I can call all the shots, but in reality… I'm just a servant!"

"We grew up together! You've known how I felt about you since we were kids, but you always ignored it! You never gave me a second glance! You've always looked down on me! To be honest, I never planned to hurt you. I just wanted to make a huge score before I left! But I never expected you to distrust me so much that you'd bring this kid along to ruin my plans!"

As he spoke, Dai Wushuang glared at Chen Zheng with pure hatred, as if he wanted to tear him limb from limb and eat him alive.

At that moment, Zhao Feng swiftly drew his dagger, ready to step forward and take the man's life. Anyone who dared to harm Chen Zheng deserved to die! But he had barely moved when Chen Zheng stopped him.

"This is Miss Liu's affair. It's best we don't interfere. Let her handle it," Chen Zheng said calmly.

He then slowly turned his head and gave Liu Yumei a meaningful look.

Liu Yumei took a long breath and slowly closed her eyes. When she opened them again a few moments later, her gaze was filled with an unprecedented killing intent.

As a family that had endured for a century, their survival depended on certain principles. They were never merciful to traitors. Otherwise, the Liu family would not have existed for so long.

"Sister…"

"Please spare him! I'm begging you, please?" Liu Yuling sobbed, looking utterly pitiful. She knew better than anyone how ruthless her sister could be. Betrayers never met a good end.

"Sister… even for my sake, please let him go!" Liu Yuling continued to plead earnestly.

"Forget it…"

After a long pause, Liu Yumei let out a long sigh.
