Chapter 99: Sniper

Boommm!

The explosion echoed loudly, followed by the screams of the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts. Dust and debris filled the air, making it nearly impossible to see anything. Orion's group used this moment to tend to the injured.

Chang Long, in her three-year-old form, was astonished by Orion's abilities. He had managed to scatter the high-level beasts effortlessly, and not a single member of his group had perished.

"That guy's pretty skilled!"

Davy-chan, watching the fight with Chang Long and Hisa-chan, exclaimed in admiration.

"Indeed, handling a fight like that is impressive."

Hisa-chan agreed, stroking his chin.

"Hehe, if he were easy to kill, it wouldn't be any fun."

Chang Long chuckled coldly, glancing around for a hiding place. Finding a crevice in the rocks that she could squeeze into, she quickly hid.

"What are you up to, missy?"

Davy-chan asked curiously.

"You'll see!"

As soon as Chang Long finished speaking, a deep, thunderous roar echoed from the distance. It was followed by the cries of the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts surrounding Orion's group. Davy-chan and Hisa-chan's eyes widened in shock as they saw a giant baboon, as tall as a three-story building, marching angrily towards them.

"Holy...!"

Orion's face turned pale at the sight of the giant, Red-bottomed Baboon Beast King approaching. The women's morale plummeted as they saw the beast king accompanied by several dozen more baboons.

"W... What do we do now, boss?"

Steamed Grouper In Lime Sauce asked, his voice trembling slightly. He had been fighting the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts fiercely and was now visibly exhausted.

"Clear a path for escape. We can't fight them all!"

Orion shouted, his voice loud and commanding. The baboons already knew that Orion's group would try to flee, so they charged in without hesitation, trying to delay them for their king to show off his might.

"Eekkkk!"

Chang Long screamed as she ran out of her hiding place, seeing the massive foot of the Red-bottomed Baboon Beast King stepping down where she had been hiding. Though, the king did not notice her, but the lackeys following him all turned their gaze to the three-year-old Chang Long.

"Oh no!"

Chang Long backed away slowly, tripping several times due to her short legs. Nearly twenty baboons followed her, their eyes fixed on her as if she were a sweet treat. She felt a shiver down her spine, remembering that her bad luck would persist until the next day. Hisa-chan and Davy-chan quickly appeared, trying to divert the baboons' attention away from Chang Long.

The Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts, startled by the sudden appearance of the two were not afraid. They even attacked them bravely. Some baboons ignored the two and continued to pursue Chang Long, eventually cornering her.

"G... Good baboons, you wouldn't hurt a defenseless child, right?"

Chang Long tried to negotiate as she reached a steep cliff that she could not climb. The baboons responded by baring their teeth and staring unblinkingly then advanced slowly towards her.

As Chang Long faced imminent danger, a wailing sound came from Orion's group. She realized that they had likely met their end, and she might soon follow.

"That's right!"

Chang Long suddenly remembered. She grabbed the sheath of the Sovereign Sword and aimed the side with the three eyes at the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts. They stopped, eyeing her warily, unsure what this little human was up to.

"Shea of Flames!"

Silence.

"Wataa Bullets!"

More silence.

Chang Long began to sweat. It seemed that unless she pronounced the skills correctly, they would not activate. The Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts began to approach her again. Desperate, she remembered one skill she could use perfectly, even in her three-year-old form.

"Flaming Burst!"

As soon as she uttered the words, golden flames shot out from the Eye of Fire, striking the baboons in front of her. They screamed in surprise and scattered in all directions.

Chang Long sighed in relief, but the respite was short-lived. The baboons regrouped, now surrounding her with angry expression and singed fur. She blinked, realizing that the flames from the Eye of Fire were exhausted from that single use of Blazing Flame.

"See you soon, Orion."

Chang Long closed her eyes tightly, bracing for the end as one of the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts bared its teeth and charged at her. Davy-chan and Hisa-chan could only watch helplessly, unable to do anything to protect their master.

Bang!

The charging baboon was suddenly knocked back, collapsing to the ground. Chang Long opened her eyes in shock, as did the remaining baboons. They looked around but could not see anything unusual. Whenever another baboon tried to attack Chang Long, a distant bang would sound, and it too would fall without apparent cause.

Kitsune had separated from Siegfried's group to hasten his search for Chang Long. Despite Kimhant's pleas to accompany him, Kitsune refused, knowing that Kimhant lacked the light-foot technique that Oliang possessed and had a low level of swift movement skill, which would only slow them down. For the first time in his life, Kimhant felt deeply pained by his own weakness.

"Traveling with Master Siegfried is better for you. Our destination is the city of Longshan anyway."

Kitsune told Kimhant, who stood nearby looking dejected.

"But! Boss, I want to help master too."

Kimhant pleaded, desperate to follow Kitsune.

"I know, but if you come along, it will only slow us down, and something terrible could happen to master before we get there!"

Kitsune spoke firmly, displaying a leader's aura that everyone could sense. Kimhant fell silent, realizing that Kitsune was right.

"Who is Chang with now, Kitsune? She's not alone, is she?"

Valentine asked worriedly, finding it hard to believe that their lucky charm was in more trouble than anyone else.

"That... I forgot to ask! But she must be with someone because she complained about being annoyed by them and wanting to get away quickly."

Kitsune replied.

"Do you know where Chang Long is now?"

Draco asked, equally concerned for her.

"Roughly, I sensed her mind about 80 kilometers from here."

Kitsune answered, standing up after packing his backpack.

"Brother, what have you been doing since earlier? Master Chang is in danger. Aren't you worried!"

Peach Blossom asked her brother, who had been busy packing his own backpack and seemed oblivious to the conversation.

"Who said I'm not worried?"

Siegfried stood up, slinging his backpack over his shoulder, and walked over to stand beside Kitsune.

"Are you going with Kitsune, Siegfried?"

Wet Trash Can asked, eyes wide.

"Yes. I can't just sit around and wait for news. Draco, please take care of Peach Blossom for me."

Siegfried nodded.

"Of course, but are you sure about removing all your armor? What if you encounter powerful beasts?"

Draco agreed as his friend's sister was like his own sister. He asked with concern noticing Siegfried had removed his steel armor, leaving only the black dragon leather armor.

"It's fine. If I don't take off the steel armor, I won't be able to keep up with Kitsune."

Siegfried smiled. As a knight, his movement speed was already slower than many speed-focused professions. Wearing steel armor would slow him down even more.

"Alright then, I'll take my leave. I'll contact you immediately once I find Master!"

Kitsune said goodbye.

"Take care, both of you, and find Chang Long quickly."

Oliang wished them well. Kitsune and Siegfried waved to their friends one last time before disappearing from sight.

"Aren't you going with them, Mi?"

Aden asked Valentine, surprised that she, Chang Long's close friend in real life, was not joining the rescue.

No, I want Chang to have some time alone with the person she likes."

Valentine replied with a smile. While she could not quite discern Chang Long's feelings for Siegfried, Siegfried's feelings for Chang Long were obvious enough for anyone to see.

"Who is it, Mi? Who does Master Chang like!"

Peach Blossom's ears perked up as soon as she heard Valentine's words.

"Isn't it obvious, Peach Blossom?"

Wet Trash Can laughed. When it came to matters of Chang Long, Peach Blossom seemed quite naive.

"Who is it, then?"

Peach Blossom asked, still looking confused.

"It's better to let them tell you themselves. Revealing their secret wouldn't be right."

Oliang laughed at Peach Blossom's puzzled expression. The young girl was trying hard to figure out who Chang Long liked, even though she had never seen Chang Long act specially towards anyone.

"That's right. We don't want to be killed by the Reaper. Just thinking about it gives me chills!"

Draco said and immediately walked towards the Firetail for warmth. The others laughed and began to pack up, preparing to leave the Bulls Field and find a place to camp before nightfall. No one gave Peach Blossom the answer she sought.

Chang Long stood in confusion as she watched the Red-bottomed Baboon Beasts fall like leaves. She had no idea what was happening. Even Davy-chan and Hisa-chan seemed equally bewildered. The baboons, sensing the area was unsafe, eventually left, though they regretted not getting to enjoy the soft flesh of the child.

"Sigh!"

Chang Long sat on the ground, exhausted. Although she was curious about who or what had saved her from being devoured, her small eyes grew heavy, and she soon fell asleep. She only vaguely saw the shadow of someone lifting her up before she lost consciousness.

Grrrowl!

The sound of her stomach growling woke Chang Long. It was night, and she found herself in a tent with the sheath of the Sovereign Sword beside her. Hisa-chan and Davy-chan were sitting nearby, relieved to see her awake and safe. Before they could talk, the tent flap opened.

"Oh, you're awake, little one!"

A fair-skinned, golden-haired man with shoulder-length hair said with a smile when he saw Chang Long sitting up, looking groggy inside his tent.

"Who are you...?"

Chang Long asked, her voice sleepy.

"Hahaha, is that how you greet someone the first time you meet them? You're something else."

The man laughed heartily. He led Chang Long outside the tent, where a bright campfire illuminated several delicious-looking dishes.

"Where am I?"

Chang Long asked again, looking around unfamiliar surroundings and yawning again.

"You're on a cliff. Just so you know, don't wander off. You could fall to your death, kid!"

The man answered with the same cheerful smile.

"Oh, you're awake!"

A beautiful fair-skinned woman with long, wavy blonde hair entered and sat next to the man, greeting Chang Long with a sweet smile when she saw her staring.

Chang Long seemed slightly stunned, not by the woman's flawless beauty, but by the sight of her neck. She stared at the woman's neck and shoulders, then looked back at the man with a strange expression.

"What's wrong? Is he stunned by my beauty, Hero?"

The woman said, noticing Chang Long's perplexed look.

"What's the matter, kid? Do you think my friend looks like an angel or something?"

Hero asked with a good-natured laugh, already having an idea of what was going through Chang Long's mind.

"A... Are you two dating?"

Chang Long finally asked.

"No, no! Jane and I are just friends."

Hero quickly responded, making Jane turn and glare at him.

"Don't you think you answered a bit too quickly!"

Jane raised her fist playfully at her friend.

"Ah, I thought you might be one of those guys who likes trans woman."

Chang Long snorted, relieved to know that Hero and Jane were not a couple. But her comment left both of them in shock, staring at her with wide eyes.

"You can tell that Jane isn't really a girl!"

Hero asked, his voice slightly excited. He had sensed from the beginning that the child in front of him was no ordinary kid.

"What? I thought my disguise was perfect!"

Jane exclaimed in frustration, pulling out a mirror she always carried to check her appearance, wondering what flaw had given her away to a three-year-old.

"Well... I'm hungry. Do you have anything to eat?"

Chang Long replied, her eyes fixated on the food in front of her, thinking when would she get to eat it.

"Oh, right. Here, you can eat all of this. Actually, I came to get you from the tent to invite you to have dinner."

Hero said, gesturing to the food. He could not help but laugh when he saw the little girl's eyes light up, staring at the food as if it were a treasure trove.
