I'm the Hero, so why do I have a Villain System!?

Chapter 53: Midterm Exams (1)

He saw Damion, the protagonist, who shot him a smile and Leyla, the princess, who was somehow stable enough to be taking this test despite an attempt on her and her father's life just a few days ago.

Then ignoring everyone, he took a seat in the front row, far left.

The important characters were all seated in the back, and he didn't want to be near them right now. Especially Celeste, who he spotted in a corner, he was sure she would yap his ears off if he sat near her.

Soon, the door opened, and a woman entered and approached the podium in front.

Lucas obviously knew this woman. It was Ms Ocsol.

"Starting now, the midterm exams begin. Everyone, be silent and get ready."

Ms. Ocsol said as she brought out the test papers.

"I'll be watching everyone to make sure no one cheats."

She said.

Did..did she… I swear she just looked at me. I swear she's looking at me through the side of her eyes...

Ms Ocsol began handing out the test papers. She used telekinesis to make them fly individually to each student in the room. Because of the method used all the test papers were quickly distributed.

"Start."

The sound of paper flipping echoed throughout the room as everyone opened the test papers. It had gone completely silent. No one was talking, everyone was focused on their test papers.

And so was Lucas.

I should start with the easy questions and topics I know.

He thought.

So he began flipping through the paper looking for questions he knew the answer to without a shadow of a doubt.

Question 6: What is the history of the Ralzath continent and how was the Noclies Kingdom founded?

TOO EASY!

"The Ralzath continent was originally inhabited by various tribal groups before the Great Unification Wars about eight hundred years ago," he wrote, "The Noclies Kingdom was founded by King Aldric Noclies after he united the southern territories through a combination of military conquest and strategic marriages. The kingdom officially established its borders in the year 847 of the Continental Calendar."

Question 11: When did the War of Three Crowns occur and who were the primary combatants?"

Another easy one.

"The War of Three Crowns lasted from 1156 to 1162," Lucas wrote. "It was fought between the Noclies Kingdom, the Eastern Duchy of Jazhad, and the Maritime Republic of Solkier over control of the Goldshore Trading Routes. The war ended with the Treaty of Gold, which established the current territorial boundaries and trade agreements."

Question 16: What are the five major families of the Noclies Kingdom?

"The five major families of the Noclies Kingdom are the Zellivans, the Tosin's, the de Rathane's, the Zevek's and the Ylois'."

Question 17: Which legendary figure defeated the Shadow Dragon of Mount Ksoiith?

"Theron the Lightbringer"

Question 18: Who ended the Endless Winter of 457 to 663?

"Yusionis the Storm Caller"

Question 25: How do you cast fire and water together without them canceling each other out?

"Easy, keep them apart until the very end. Imagine two streams twining around each other, but never touching until you release the spell. That's when they merge and amplify instead of fighting."

Question 33: Is there a way to make a healing spell stronger without burning through too much mana?

"You focus on the edges of the wound first, not the center. Heal outward, a little at a time. It uses less mana, and the wound closes faster once your spell surrounds it."

Question 40: What's the difference between channeling and casting?

"Channeling is when you draw magic through yourself continuously, like keeping a stream flowing. Casting is when you gather the magic first and then release it all at once."

Question 41: And which one uses more mana over time?"

"Channeling, because you're constantly maintaining the flow. Casting is more efficient if you only need one burst of magic."

Question 42: Which between channelling and casting would you use for a barrier spell?

"Channelling because a barrier constantly needs to be fed Mana to remain stable unlike a attacking spell that only needs a single burst."

As he continued reading through the test Lucas realized he knew the answer to many of the questions even if it wasn't to a shadow of a doubt.

The fact that he knew the answers to them made him happy. He filled in answer after answer, writing quickly.

What's the next question?

Lucas was now genuinely excited to do the exam. He was smiling from ear to ear and he became so focused on the test that he didn't notice Ms Ocsol standing beside him, watching him work!

Hmm, he doesn't seem to be cheating.

She thought.

Although she knew Lucas had somewhat changed, she had suspected he would try to cheat in order to maintain his place in the academy.

That was why when she saw him answering the questions so confidently, she had come over his shoulder to watch what he was doing.

But she saw no sign of cheating.

It seemed he was actually be trying to do the exam on his own.

Most of his answers are right too…

This surprised Ms. Ocsol because in her eyes no matter how much he had crammed, he shouldn't have been able to answer these questions nearly as well as he did.

But this made her smile as she had decided to back Lucas so she was glad he hadn't taken the chance she had given him for granted.

She made up her mind then and there that even if he didn't pass the test, she would do her best to make sure he didn't get kicked out.

Soon the test came to an end.

"Time's up. Pass me your papers."

Ms Ocsol said as she approached Lucas.

This caused Lucas to break out of the flow state that he was in.

He looked up and noticed that everyone else had already passed in their papers and left. He was the only one left.

So everyone else has already finished the test, it seems I'm the slowpoke.

"Did you answer all the questions?"Ms Ocsol asked him taking the paper.

"No, unfortunately, I didn't get to go back to some of the questions I skipped."

He felt frustrated because he knew that with just a bit more time, he could have answered every question.

"Here." Ms Ocsol said handing the paper back to Lucas.

"Huh?"

"There's still half an hour before the next step of the exam starts. I can wait." Ms Ocsol said.
