Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 54: World Train

The results of the Doom War had been the utter destruction of Earth's ecosystems, structures and connecting tissues, Continents split or became fragmented, oceans spread inland in some places and outland in others.

The planet was no longer what it was in the past. Right now, there were only four notable continental regions:

The One Far to the East, the New World, the Euro Archipelago (Old World), and the Northern Isles.

Where Enzo had been born and grew up was on the Euro Archipelago, a region of shattered land masses and diverse communities and cultures. Unfortunately, he wasn't privileged to enjoy that part of the region as he was poor and not well traveled…..

He had lived in the ruined wastelands that were Fort Marie and its surroundings all his life that was his heritage, that was all the Old world gave to him.

"Hmm." Inside a large speeding train contraption, Enzo looked down at the myriad of islands stretched across the sea.

He was leaving the place he had grown up in, and despite not truly exploring or enjoying it, he felt a sense of sadness. He had no choice, of course, he had killed a member of a group too powerful a price to pay back.

"Hehe, expensive." Enzo sudden smiled coyly at this thought as he looked away with a snide expression to a screen with a clock in front of him.

The price of escape was not any better either.

He was currently on something called a 'World Train'. Typically reserved for the elites of the elites in society, rumors said it would take two decades to cross from the Old World to the Northern Isles. That was the exact price of this voyage they were currently on per passenger—

20 years of lifespan.

All footed by Mr. White.

"Sit down, Roddy, you'll disturb Amma." At the back, just behind Enzo, Carlos dragged his younger brother by the hair, forcing him away from the window to sit back in his chair.

Mr. White had paid for Enzo's and his family's trip—a total of 80 years of time to safety. Enzo, of course, offered to pay back over a period of time, to which Mr. White refused vehemently.

"Sigh, this is a lot." Enzo smirked bitterly. He could tell that it was a steep price even for Mr. White, but it wasn't something he could afford to pay right now—

not with how fast his time was ticking right now.

[Analysis completed…

The Time Curse is born from a lower deity concept of aging. It is said that all living beings age, even the immortal ones. This curse typically has little danger for those with long lifespans; only those who have shorter spans feel the brunt of it wicked grip…..

Would you like the Void Coffin to take some of the brunt of this curse?]

Enzo stared at the screen in front of him that only he could see. Right now, the Void Coffin was somewhere in the cargo bay, beeping and running a myriad of computations in the dark.

"Lower deity concept of aging, huh?" Enzo mused. He wouldn't pretend that he understood what this meant, but he was slowly beginning to wrap his head around how much of a mess he was in.

He had no idea humanity had produced something as strong as a demigod—that was the level Victoria was at in his first voyage, and even then, she was considered one of the strongest things in existence.

And what did he do after finishing his first voyage? Piss off something just as strong.

"Wait a minute, you could have done that all this while?" Enzo complained in his head as soon as he read the last line of text once more.

His timestamp had been going at five times its normal speed for about three days now. That meant he had lost approximately fifteen days of time, and the Void Coffin was telling him this only now?

[The Void Coffin is a treasure of the night. It doesn't feel the concept of aging, as it would be tantamount to asking the night to wither. It's assumed you knew this….]

The Void Coffin responded as if confused by Enzo's previous question, then repeated its question.

[Would you like the Void Coffin to take some of the brunt of this curse?]

"Of course," Enzo responded, and in the next second, he watched as the timestamp on his hand began to slow down rapidly until it seemed like barely any time was passing as compared to before.

[Your clock has been tuned to 2× its normal speed. The residual of the spell cannot be removed completely at this stage, as it doubles as a tracking spell.]

The Coffin, after a while, sounded in his head, giving Enzo some relief.

Tracking spell, Mr. White had explained that was the case a while ago. Killing a talent from Weavetech would typically earn you one of those.

In fact, Weavetech had a whole task force to find people like that. It was one of the many dangers Enzo would unfortunately have to face in the coming future.

"Thank you." Enzo smirked bitterly, rolling down his sleeve before looking back at Mr. White and the old lady whom he had brought on the World train with him.

"What a strange-looking person," Enzo muttered under his breath. He couldn't understand why they even allowed Mr. White to board this train with a chained-up old woman by his side, let alone understand her situation.

Of course, it really wasn't his place to pry either, maybe it was his job? Maybe it was his mom? How would he even look like asking such a strange question?

"Whatever, I should focus on me." Enzo shook his head before leaning back comfortably into his chair and slowly closing his eyes, as he faded into contemplation.

What he didn't know was that this old lady was invisible to everyone on this train except for himself and Mr. White.
