"But he is still your Lord, like it or not in public you have to show him that respect and act your station. Or just call a noble from another house, like myself, something like what was it, 'little miss honeypot' no matter how much of a hussy she is!" Talia gave Sara a serious stare, and Sara reacted with a shocked face, "that would have been taken very poorly in front of Lord Fredrick, disrespectful to the clan's name, to himself just standing there, like everything the same but him just standing there, it could have stopped everything."
"I—I," said Sara.
"I really do want to be on your side, and I really do," turning toward Kurt and rubbing her elbow, "like spending time with you, we just met though really so…And it all comes together in a person that the rest of my clan and family will just get off my back about," turning back to Sara, starting to speak sarcastically, "'…for the clan… we have to maintain…it's your duty…it's stupid, but it's also important. So Kurt is sort of perfect," she looked away, "for me. I honestly thought that's what you were thinking as well, it's normal for nobles to make deals like this, with a courtship underlying the deal. But I see now you are all just ignorant and naive about this stuff. I did not think I was making my intentions unclear."
"Ohh you had very clear intentions I see," said Sara.
"If it were to happen then I would join you in Princess Layla's court, under her's and Kurt's direct authority, I would be free of my obligation to the clan other than some expected diplomacy, and direct family relations, and some guardianship of my well Justin though would remain Valentine, he has a lot of influence, but I would be switching flags and coming here. So there it is, Lady Sara, my horrible plot is to join you, and try to make Kurt happy." Throwing out her arms. "And if you think anyone is being taken advantage of here, from my perspective, it's me, I was the one being pawned off to the crown when I met you, luckily he seemed not to take much interest in me, he is quite a bit older than me he has a lover I think. And you were being given a free meal if I remember, and I might have found a perfect way out of this, like, why wouldn't I want this Lady Sara? I'm still technically being pawned off here to Kurt, but I actually want to make this one stick, can't I get a little choice? Why wouldn't I want to stay here, you want to, I can suffer your annoyance for it."
Talia stopped and gave a mean stare at Sara.
Talia continued, "Why couldn't I actually like Kurt a little? Ever think of that? And maybe even a little more now that I know he was in it for just me? Not even realizing the political implications, any relationship we could have, has this hanging over it, he should have seen that, I thought you both saw that, that was my mistake, your ignorance. And if it doesn't work out, wouldn't he at least let me live here like you Sara? He wouldn't abuse me, can you see Kurt ever doing that?" Talia's voice had grown louder during all of that, but she caught herself, and calmed down, "So I, as you said, threw myself at him and went all in this time, and will happily continue to, for as long as it pleases Lord Kurt. And not feel the slightest bit bad about it. I believe my life will be better with Kurt, it will help my clan, that is far more than is enough for me. This is how it actually works in High Society. Lesson over," firing a hrumpf and turning away disapprovingly from Sara with her arms folded across her.
"So you can imagine a semi-happy life?" said Kurt.
Talia rushed toward Kurt, looked into his eyes helplessly, and grabbed his arm, "I really can, even a really happy one, we just met and I don't know, but she really presses my buttons," Talia turned towards Sara, with a mean brow.
"I can see that, she presses some of mine sometimes," said Kurt, and Sara's mouth dropped.
"Nothing is perfect," said Talia, " I didn't mean to talk about this like that, it's a little too soon to tell," she turned away, and wiped a tear from her eye, "my parents said it takes work to be happy with someone, and they seem happy enough. Maybe not story book love, but who ever gets that? I have been having a lot of fun with you, I really do, I really do feel something, but you need my help Kurt." Talia turned back toward him and pleaded, "you have to get through high society, you have to start acting like the lords and ladies you are. You're lucky Layla seems to have a head for it. I'm sorry, I thought you knew, that I was…that it was…I swear it's not all political for me, it kind of never really was at first," she said turning away again, blushing, "but I can't really ignore that part, and maybe you shouldn't either. I really think I can be happy here, with you,"
Countess Talia looked back at Kurt, locking tearful eyes, and said "Can't you imagine maybe being happy with me, Kurt?" she paused for a moment, "So there is truth, what you all should have seen immediately," putting up a hand and shaking it, "it would have been, if you had grown up as nobles, not commoners, it would be blatantly obvious to anyone of them. I have no idea how that happened. It is a dramatic increase in rank to say the least you two, you both would technically outrank me," Talia clawed both her hands, "and don't even know this?" Talia covered her face with her hands, starting to breathe heavily.
"I think I can see that," said Kurt, "I don't know what to think, it's sort of a lot to process."
