Kurt had settled into a bit of routine, he would wake up, peace his swings, go have breakfast in the mess hall, maybe see a few people there. Come back and continue making some healing salve. Kurt had figured out the shelf was two months at full strength and another three at half strength, which was more like two third's strength, and still going strong really. Using just a bag made the decay twice as fast as a sealed bottle, cork or mason jar didn't seem to matter, just air tight. Then he would either go visit Sara, hang out in the town or go off exploring for some minerals.
Once a week he would have lessons with Trenton. He began practicing holding a bubble of water at the tip during his spars, believing it would be wise to always be ready. Trenton seems impressed by the Crescent Wave, and thought about sword types that might make the technique easier, having a groove in the center might be a great place to start, he also gave Kurt a single edged peace blade, to figure out if that would help. They would have a lot to discuss before a proper blade was forged for Kurt. He was not however impressed with Kurt's loose form, and reinstilled the proper movements into Kurt. he also suggested adding just holding the water as a bead for two swings as it was important to hold it, Kurt agreed, two full waves, hold one of it nothing coming off, two wire slashes, and holding one ready for that with nothing. it with nothing coming off, repeating until two hundred total, that seemed good, he did want to be able to hide it in a real battle. A bead of water up a blade is barely recognizable.
Kurt had also practiced with the spear had found no clear way to utilize the technique with a spear, as thrusts seemed to gain no benefit, and spears relied on thrusts, and since spears had round stems, it was impossible to make a thing slice, it would come off splattered, the main befit it the blade help create the form, so he would have to form the water himself, allowing him to focus on pushing it forward. The spear's round stem simply didn't do that and the tip was further away, making any thin slash difficult to accomplish, perhaps with a different tip, but it was always much easier for the spear to throw off the water, while holding a bead to a metal blade was much easier.
The time was about to come for their next journey to the next town. Which meant Kurt was trying to get ready to show Carl what his potions were all about. So he wanted to be ready. He could up the scale fairly easily, just needed bigger mixing pots, and few more hand getting the materials, which were flourishing around the pillar, as it seemed Layla's transformation still hadn't completely finished, it may never, it had tamed itself a little the progression was slower than it was originally. But the green fields, bushes, trees had been growing around. The water basin had filled the river had started, though it was being soaked up by the dry canyon quickly, once it was wet though. It was quite the view from his house as well, he could see for miles.
The settlement had gotten larger, the eleven had constructed their own housing out away from the pillar near what was going to become a little woods area. They had some ability to twist and form buildings from plant life, but apparently needed the plant life to be there. They mostly kept to themselves, though they weren't strangers in the mess hall. But they had moved out of one of the lower hallways. If this worked out Kurt was thinking of getting some of their help with gathering ingredients for the potions. He also wanted to start work on something newer soon, there were a lot of ideas, the goblin magic also had a lot of offensive abilities, if the same multiplication of effects could be obtained, the earlier battles may have been much different. Also they had many supportive clouds for formations. There were countless options for Kurt to start with in many respects. He'd have to eventually check out some of the elven magic if there was any way to improve or combine all of it.
But the healing salve seemed like the most appropriate first thing to experiment, and it was as far as Kurt was concerned going to change medicine. Which meant money, and lots of it. So he gathered a few samples. and prepared to talk to Carl about his idea. Kurt had no way to actually sell any of the merchandise that was really what Carl was doing.
"So, you're trying to tell me this is some miracle medicine," said Carl.
Kurt had expected this reaction, what he was saying would seem unbelievable. "Well, I know it sounds that way, and there is a shelf life, the first two months are more potent, and we are going on six months of about two thirds or so, I haven't actually found it's expiration date yet, but I would think it would be useable for another three at minimum."
"I mean still, it will just heal the wound."
"I'm actually prepared to demonstrate," Kurt said, taking out a knife, "on myself of course. And have a few samples for you to check out however you want."
"Hmm," thought Carl, "I mean I don't want you to cut yourself, but I really don't see any other way, I wouldn't test it someone else, I guess you'll have to."
"It's fine I've been using it on the goblins, I know the effect works the same on humans as well," Kurt said, rolling up a sleeve and making two cuts on his forearm deep enough to bleed."Yep that's the worst part." Kurt continued, "First, full strength."
Kurt took a particular bottle and took some of the salve on his fingers and rubbed it into one of the two cuts, and almost instantly the wound had healed, and he just needed to wipe it off. "And now for the current power," said Kurt.
Kurt repeated the same thing, only this time the wound stayed, but slowly it started to mend itself in front of their eyes, and after a minute it was fully healed.
"That's…incredible."
"It's not a cure all, it most likely won't grow back a hand."
"Most likely?"
"I haven't tested that fully, but it does seem to mend bones that are placed correctly."
"I see. But if it stays as long as you say, this would sell a lot. I can imagine large orders from the governments for their militaries as well, that can be where the real money is, I'll have to get in touch with someone. How much can I have for now? I'll have to perform my own testing."
"Well I have this bag of them which I made yesterday, so it's at its most potent, and another bag of various older ones, all dated. I would like to get containers for this, that part is actually a little difficult, but people buy that for stuff like this right?"
"Yes, that's something we'd have to figure out, how much do you think you can make."
"A lot actually, I just need bigger mixing bowls and supplies like that, the ingredients are actually plentiful on this side around here. This is sort of my pitch to you for your help putting it together in some professional way. I think we can make a lot of money from this, and would make your company look really good as a main supplier of world class medicine publicly."
"I'm going to have to get back to you, I need to check out how effective it is, a small cut is a small cut after all."
"Well, I don't intend to go around mutating myself too much here, I think you've seen the potential."
