Chapter 75: Overlap

Let's go one more round you fucker

What happened next was a blur to Tyler. One moment he was with the ball, and the next, he was on the floor raising his hand to he referee hoping to at least get a foul from the interaction but he got nothing.

Damn it

Seeing as the referee didn't plan on stopping things, Tyler could only get up and go to help his teammates out in defense.

The tough contest between the two teams continued. As opposed to the first half when Monaco sat back and allowed Paris Saint Germain to play, they were a lot more vicious. They attacked rapidly and in numbers and they defended in the same way.

It was the perfect synchronization from a coach's perspective and if the circumstances behind it was different, Adi Hutter would've been smiling when watching the display from his team, unfortunately they were two goals down at the moment.

Once again, Ben Seghir and Tyler switched wings. Tyler was back to the right flank where he was up against Nuno Mendes again. This time, he was a lot more careful when it came to taking him on and ended up passing the ball backwards a lot of the time. He was still working out something and didn't want to be the reason why the team conceded a goal to a rapid counter attack.

73'

Once again, Tyler got the ball on the width of the right flank, in the final third. He had barely moved a couple of steps when he found a body in the form of Joao Neves in front of him.

Tyler's legs flashed over the ball as he did a couple of stepovers while driving the ball forward, causing Joao Neves to backpedal a bit. After a couple of steps however, Joao Neves' legs lunged at the ball in an attempt to nick it off Tyler's legs.

Tyler seemed to have long anticipated the sudden movement and kicked the ball in the space that existed between Joao Neves' legs the moment he stretched his legs. He then ran past the Paris Saint Germain midfielder and got a hold onto the lose ball. When he looked up, the sight in front of him almost made him swallow some spit.

In front of him was his main adversary of the night, Nuno Mendes. The left back had a confident smile on his face as he squared up against the opposition winger.

Fucking bastard, let's see how long you'll be able to keep that smile on your face for.

Without missing a beat, Tyler continued to drive the ball forward until Nuno Mendes didn't allow him advance further, positioning himself in front on Tyler.

Tyler's leg raised and then teased a pass into the box, but then the ball remained unmoving. He did the same thing again, only actually moving the ball when Nuno Mendes' leg stretched out. He did the same thing he did with Joao Neves and kicked the ball between Nuno Mendes' leg.

This time though, he didn't chase the loose ball and ran adjacent to Nuno Mendes, towards the outside of the penalty box. Mendes wanted to chase after Tyler, but he had no one else covering for him on the left flank so he followed the ball, trying his best to get there before Vanderson who had made an overlap.

Right as Nuno Mendes stopped Tyler for what seemed like the upteenth time, Tyler had a moment of genius. He had been trying to get past Nuno Mendes by engaging on one on one battles with him but what if he didn't have to be alone.

As soon as he thought of that, he saw that Nuno Mendes was the only one left to deal with the threat on the right flank. It was just him and no one else, so Tyler had an idea... he would make Vanderson overlap him when he was taking Nuno Mendes on. He didn't know what would happen after, but he knew that the brief moment of confusion where Nuno Mendes was trying to decide who to follow would give him enough time to do something.

He also understood that what he was attempting was a one time thing. He wasn't naive enough to think that the Paris Saint Germain players wouldn't be smart enough to adapt and nullify the threat that the numbers game he thought of posed.

Vanderson got there first, and with his first touch, he sent the ball back to Tyler who was now waiting a small distance outside the penalty box. He was standing with Fabian Ruiz who tried to intercept the pass, but Tyler stretched out his leg, and his hand, shielding the ball as it came to him, and then turn inward and cut inside with his left foot, before sending a left footed floating cross into the penalty box.

Akliouche who had been sitting deeper then Folarin Balogun, playing as a ten suddenly rushed into the box, unmarked, and leaped towards the ball, catching it in the middle of it's flight, using his head to redirect it towards the goalpost.

Gianluigi Donarumma, the Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper saw everything that happened from his position. He saw Tyler when he whipped the cross into the box, he saw the multitudes of players inside the box that jumped towards it. What he did not see, however, was Akliouche suddenly crashing into the box and making contact with the cross.

He was rooted to the spot as he watched the ball move towards the goalpost. In the end, there was nothing that he could do but watch the ball go into the back of the net.

As soon as Tyler saw the ball go into the back of the net, he wanted to celebrate. In fact, he was about to rush towards Maghnes when he saw the person in question just picking up the ball and running back towards the center circle.

Right, we're still losing.

Quickly understanding the reasoning behind Maghnes' action, Tyler followed behind and jogged to his team's side of the pitch.

He might've gotten an assist...

But things were far from over.

Twenty seven minutes was a very long time in the Parc de Princes.
