But it is said that this Ape Spirit, named Yuan Hua, was originally a pet raised by the Green-haired True Master Liu Laogen during the Han Dynasty. Master Liu raised two ape monkeys, one black and one white, the white one being Yuan Hua.

Before Master Liu's ascension, the Black Ape had been lent to the Heartless Zen Master of Tianzhu to guard his cave dwellings.
