There's Absolutely No Problem With The Magic Cards I Made!

Ch. 18

Chapter 18. Cornelia is Happy to Help

I indeed needed cannon fodder to test the mechanics.

So, Cornelia and I, one on the left and one on the right, flanked the demon student and walked together towards the classroom at the end of the corridor.

It felt very much like escorting a death row prisoner to the execution ground.

We pushed open the embossed door, which was a work of art in itself.

A magnificent scene, like a piece of art, instantly met our eyes.

This classroom, compared to a cooking classroom or a kitchen, was more like a banquet hall. The style was very similar to the corridor outside, looking very much in the style of an evening banquet.

The bright lights were warm and soft, and the silver candlesticks and crystal chandeliers shone brilliantly under the firelight. The reliefs on the walls were magnificent, and a grand, baroque-style long table was placed in the center of the room.

"Welcome to the cooking classroom. I am your teacher, Baron Bach, and I sincerely invite you to my dinner party!"

A deep voice echoed in the classroom, and the door slammed shut with a bang.

A dinner party?

Did the Demon Academy have classes at night?

I followed the voice and looked over.

At the deepest part of the classroom stood a male demon with a gloomy face, draped in a magnificent black formal suit.

He bowed elegantly to the three of us, then rotated his wrist until his palm faced up, pointing to the oak carved dining chairs by the long table, signaling for us to be seated. He didn't seem to have the air of a teacher at all.

Although this teacher's words and actions were quite friendly, I knew that all of this was false.

Because the killing intent in Baron Bach's eyes was not hidden at all.

The demon student captured by Cornelia had already started trembling uncontrollably, instinctively afraid of Baron Bach.

At my signal, Cornelia led the demon student to sit on the left side of the dining table.

I then sat on the right side, directly opposite Cornelia.

Seeing that the three of us had taken our seats, Baron Bach showed a satisfied smile.

He turned around, walked to the back of the classroom, and slowly pushed out a small silver serving cart.

On the cart were three dishes covered with silver cloches.

"Today's lesson is: food appreciation."

"I have already prepared your meals. I hope you will be satisfied."

Baron Bach, like a butler, pushed the small cart to the edge of the long table and lifted one of the dishes.

"But," Baron Bach's tone changed, becoming somewhat high-pitched, like a proud and neurotic artist.

"After enjoying your dinner, you need to tell me the ingredients and seasonings used in the dinner."

"This is precisely the test for today's cooking class."

"An excellent chef is one who can resonate with a gourmet."

"If you can answer more than 80% correctly, it proves that you are my honored guests and also outstanding students of the cooking classroom."

"But if your answers are a complete mess, I will be very sad."

"I will have no choice but to give you a corresponding punishment..."

Speaking of this, the smile on Baron Bach's lips could no longer be suppressed. The desire to kill was almost directly displayed on his face.

"..."

Listening to him talk, I really wanted to give him a couple of slaps!

He was just revealing his dagger at the end of the unrolled map.

If it weren't for the fact that I couldn't beat Baron Bach for the time being, I would have already called Cornelia to go beat him up.

"So, which of you three will start?"

Baron Bach scanned the three of us at the table and asked with a somewhat sinister smile on his face.

The huge classroom was dead silent.

After coming out of the examination hall, even Cornelia had understood that all these demons' games were filled with killing intent...

This was not a happy candlelight dinner, but a banquet of slaughter on the edge of a cliff!

The silence lasted for a few seconds.

"No proactive students? Then I'll have to call on someone."

Baron Bach seemed a bit impatient and said with a slight frown.

However, just as his voice fell.

The demon student next to Cornelia slowly raised his hand.

This made Baron Bach's expression turn joyful.

But the demon student's eyes widened, looking at Cornelia beside him in disbelief. His eyes were filled with existential doubt about his demon life.

Cornelia was holding his elbow and had forcibly helped him raise his hand!

Cold sweat poured down his forehead as he glanced at Baron Bach.

Baron Bach's gaze was already locked on him.

His death could basically be announced.

Then, the demon student looked at me, sitting diagonally opposite him, with a face full of grief and indignation. Even in death, he wanted to die with a clear understanding. Although this girl was terrifying, her heart wasn't this malicious. It must have been me, that unscrupulous guy opposite, who gave her the instruction!

I looked away, puckering my lips as if whistling.

I had indeed just given Cornelia a signal with my eyes: I repeatedly glanced at Cornelia's and the demon student's elbows, and Cornelia quickly understood my meaning.

It really was you, you bastard! The demon student cried out in despair in his heart. He was in pain, he was indignant, but he was helpless. All he had left was fear.

"Then it's you!"

Baron Bach was very pleased that a student had finally volunteered.

He quickly walked to the demon student's side, placed the plate in front of him, and lifted the cloche for him.

A plate of braised meat with the aroma of cantaloupe and lemon, along with a hint of smokiness, served with a small amount of seasonal vegetables, appeared before the demon student.

"Come, please eat."

Baron Bach took two steps back, leaving a more comfortable space for the demon student.

Upon hearing this.

The demon student raised the knife and fork with trembling hands, cut the meat very, very thinly, then forked it and slowly brought it to his mouth. But the closer it got to his mouth, the more his hands trembled, as if he couldn't aim for his own mouth.

But Baron Bach didn't rush him at all.

Baron Bach seemed to greatly enjoy observing the demon student's appearance.

Just like that, the demon student kept delaying, occasionally glancing at Baron Bach. After fifteen minutes, this small plate of exquisite and luxurious food had been mostly eaten by him.

"Alright, it's time to answer the questions."

Baron Bach said with a smile, as if he had just pressed the final countdown to the demon student's death.

"..."

"There's... there's onion, carrot, bay leaf, thyme, red wine, black pepper..."

The demon student answered, trembling.

He was in great pain, constantly trying to recall the taste he had just experienced. The flavor was too complex. Every bite was the ultimate delicacy. But this meal brought no happiness at all, only endless despair and fear. It was as if this was what Baron Bach truly wanted him to taste.

In the end, he gradually started guessing, but the more he guessed, the more he understood that he had deviated from the correct answer. The smile on Baron Bach's face became more and more unrestrained, and the corners of his mouth had already curved into a terrifying arc.

"What a pity, you only got 37% correct. You are not a true gourmet."

The voice of judgment, filled with pleasure, rang out in the classroom.

As his voice fell, Baron Bach's neck suddenly stretched out. His skin tore open as easily as a packaging bag, revealing the green, shimmering scales underneath, as if he had reverted to his monstrous form. This well-dressed baron began to sway his bizarrely long neck, sneering with his now terrifying face, staring at the ashen-faced demon student.

Finally, Baron Bach seemed to have admired the demon student's desperate look enough.

His head became incomparably huge, and he opened his blood-red maw, swallowing the demon student in a flash.

One bite!

The demon student was swallowed whole by Baron Bach! Without any power to resist.

"Crunch, crunch."

Baron Bach chewed a few times with a look of enjoyment on his face, then swallowed his own big meal whole. After a swallow of immense enjoyment, Baron Bach seemed to have reached the pinnacle of pleasure, his eyes rolling up slightly, and he laughed out loud as he retracted his neck.

He had said it from the beginning.

This was his dinner party.

...

During the brief moment when Baron Bach was enjoying his wonderful dinner, although Cornelia had a poker face, a trace of anxiety began to surface in her heart. She was fairly certain she couldn't defeat Baron Bach. If she couldn't identify the ingredients later, she didn't know if she and I could restrain Baron Bach by working together.

She looked at me.

Our eyes met.

She found that I still maintained an unchanging expression, leaning back in my chair as steady as a chess piece.

This put Cornelia at ease.

It seemed she believed I already had a plan.
