Chapter 61: The Confrontation
The dense dog‑hair flea market’s far end had emptied out because of the chaos.
Many well‑informed stallholders, upon seeing two similar faces—one big and one small—panicked, grabbed their belongings and fled.
In the very center of the clearing, Zhang Wenda stood in front of his younger self.
He inhaled deeply and watched the beast before him charge forward step by step without fear.
As the slowly brightening arc crackled before him, he gritted his teeth, his expression feral as he tightened his grip on the weapon, his footing unshaken.
Facing Zhang Wenda’s advance, Yang Yongxin was not to be outdone.
Blue‑white electric arcs crackled from his clawed, scaled hand, coalescing into an ever‑brighter orb.
At the precise moment the red light collided with that red glow, a powerful shockwave sent Zhang Wenda flying.
When he struggled up from the ground, excruciating pain made his vision darken, and he saw his left arm dangling limp—clearly broken.
Seeing Zhang Wenda injured, the nearby instructors dropped their caution.
Led by Professor Yang, they closed in on Zhang Wenda.
Just as they were about to form a numbers‑over‑one advantage, feline cries sounded and Song Jianguo arrived with Aunt Flo beside Zhang Wenda.
The sudden arrival of extra people made them hesitate and they did not attack immediately.
“Thank you!” Zhang Wenda genuinely thanked his friends.
He honestly did not expect them to come.
“I don’t like owing anyone!” Song Jianguo said irritably.
“That time in the library, I don’t owe you anything anymore!”
“And this time I came risking my life for you! After we get out you must take off that collar!”
“All right! It’s a deal!” Zhang Wenda glanced around and asked, “Where’s the Lamp Spirit?”
Aunt Flo looked at Song Jianguo helplessly and handed over the flattened enamel jar.
“He said he couldn’t help with this matter. He’s only a legend. Before leaving he said to give this to you.”
“Huh, really didn’t expect that guy—” Zhang Wenda began, but before he could finish, electric arcs crackled again.
A thick arc shot from afar and struck Zhang Wenda.
Despite the sudden attack, with a suppressed roar of pain, he forced his body upright against the numbing shock and agony.
Even with his hair smoking from the discharge, he did not fall.
Through his blood‑shot eyes beyond the hastily formed cat wall, he saw Yang Yongxin in the distance.
“This sensation… it’s kind of nostalgic! If I hadn’t gone through so many of these before, I really wouldn’t have made it.”
Yang Yongxin’s fanged mouth curved up slightly in a half‑mocking, half‑smile.
“Child, I don’t hate you. You just got addicted to the net. That’s why you turned into this. It’s not you who’s wrong—it’s the entire internet, the online games. You need saving. You need treatment.”
“Cut the bullshit! You’ve lost your face! Nobody’s interviewing you here! Stop pretending!” Zhang Wenda spat, watching his opponent’s movements.
The other seemed far stronger than he’d shown so far.
“You’re so stubborn, net‑addicted youth.” Yang Yongxin’s last shred of feigned pity vanished.
Only cold killing intent remained in his beast‑like eyes.
With a sudden raise of his left claw, five more compact, javelin‑like blue‑white arcs formed instantly, shrieking through air as they shot toward Zhang Wenda, Song Jianguo, and the others.
At that moment Song Jianguo whistled sharply, “Meow‑wuu!”
The black cats surged as one, forming a massive shield.
But this time the arcs were too concentrated and fierce.
The moment they hit the shield, cat fur exploded outward forming fur‑balls, and the formation collapsed instantly.
At the sight, the instructors swarmed in like jackals eating carrion, adding insult to injury.
Amid the chaos, Zhang Wenda, weapon in one hand, had already broken from the crowd.
He ran up the tall dog‑hair terrain toward Yang Yongxin.
Neither side noticed that everything around began to stutter, and pixelated corners appeared.
When Zhang Wenda was just a few steps away, Yang Yongxin looked toward him, arcs flickering in his hand.
At that life‑and‑death moment Zhang Wenda pressed down firmly on the Yellow Core with his hand.
With the Yellow Core glowing bright, everything around collapsed in an instant.
The flea market turned into an office.
On the desk sat a computer.
Yang Yongxin’s powerful arcs shrank rapidly before striking Zhang Wenda—only a mild tingling was felt.
With a “thud”, Zhang Wenda slammed his right hand fiercely into Yang Yongxin’s face, staggering the man in the white coat.
Zhang Wenda gripped Yang’s neck with all his strength, choking down hard.
But in the next moment a whirlwind lifted up.
Scar after scar appeared across Zhang Wenda’s body.
Before he could understand what was happening, as scars erupted, reality shifted again.
He was back in the Adult World.
Once more he returned to the flea market.
“Mouse, watch out!”
In that instant, the unsuspecting Zhang Wenda was hurled again by the violent current, crashing heavily onto the dog hair.
Smoke rose from his body, his vision blurred.
As he prepared to stand, a monstrous beast’s face loomed just centimeters before him.
Electric arcs snapped, lighting up everything around.
“You really think you can defeat me? Useless! You can’t fight me at all.”
Though Zhang Wenda looked defeated, he remained fearless facing a powerful enemy.
“Maybe… I just wanted to try!” he replied.
“You don’t understand. What adults deem wrong is wrong! Rules are ours to make! If we say something’s wrong then it is wrong!”
With a flash of blue light, the arc aimed straight at Zhang Wenda’s chest.
At that critical moment, a young figure leaped forward—it was his younger self!!
The youth screamed with heart‑shattering intensity and charged without hesitation, wielding the dropped lightsaber toward Yang Yongxin.
“Yang Yongxin! Fuck your mother!!”
Despite voice cracking from puberty, it rang clear and piercing, like a stone thrown into still water, stirring ripples in Zhang Wenda’s heart.
He glanced at the red core level on his arm and leapt forward with his younger self toward Yang Yongxin.
He grasped the youth’s hand and the lightsaber hilt, striking downward with force.
Amid the tearing of flesh and a scream, Zhang Wenda saw something move inside Yang Yongxin’s body.
